Yes, a permit is required for backcountry camping in Everglades National Park. Permits can be obtained in person at the Gulf Coast Visitor Center or the Flamingo Visitor Center, no more than 24 hours before your trip. The cost of a backcountry permit is $15, plus an additional $2 per person, per night. Keep in mind that during the busy season (November through April), it is recommended to arrive early, as permits are issued on a first-come, first-served basis.
