This property is located on the French Broad River with over 400 ft or river frontage. It is one of the oldest rivers in the world, thought to be the 3rd oldest. it runs appx 219 miles from Rosman NC and runs into Douglas lake just a short distance of a few miles below this property. The pigeon river runs into the FBR also a short distance below this property. The Nolichucky River merges with the FBR at the top end of the lake just a few miles below this property also.  The Cherokee names for the French Broad River vary, but the most common was Tah-kee-os-tee, meaning ''racing waters'' since many Cherokee would race canoes on this river. This is a popular river for lots of various activities, swimming, boating, fishing etc. This specific property was within only two families for more than a hundred years until we purchased it over a year ago, since then we have done a lot of work on the property including doing organic gardening.  We do share some during the right seasons. We love to watch the birds on this property as there are lots of species at different times of the year. I have watched bald eagles fly by, one had caught a meal and flew up in a big hickory tree on the property to eat his meal. We also see osprey, king fishers, (one of my favorites) several species of ducks, geese, crows, buzzards, bluebirds, cardinals, doves, chickadees, and many more. The French Broad is also know for the many species of fish including several species of bass, large mouth, small mouth, stripers, drum, catfish, carp, walleye, sauger, musky, crappie, and many others. Learn more about this land: This is excellent stopover point if you are on your way to the Great Smoky Mtns as it is between I-40 and I-81. This property has level river front property on one of the oldest rivers in the world. Excellent fishing (bass, crappie, walleye, musky, drum, catfish, stripers, and many others) great trout fishing close by also, only appx 40 mins to gatlingburg, pigeon forge, knoxville, and appx 1 hr to Asheville, a great stop over point to many destinations around the Great Smoky Mtns Nat Park.  Rafting and kayaking is permitted at your own risk. 10 mins to Lake Douglas or within 20 mins to Cherokee Lake and several other lakes are close by. Easy access from Interstate 40 or I-81. great bird watching is also a plus with this property as I see many ducks, geese, kingfishers, some bald eagles fly up or down the river. Nice relaxing property away from the road and noise. Some firewood is available but best to bring your own. Pets are permitted if you clean up after them as kids like to play on the property while camping and dont want waste for them to fall in or get on them. Please clean up after pets.
