Nestled in the heart of Montana, this charming town stands out as a contender for the title of Capitol of Beautiful Montana State, thanks to its rich history and stunning landscapes. One of the most notable attractions is the old Montana State Prison, which operated from 1878 until its closure in 1979 due to overcrowding. A fascinating piece of history, Deer Lodge was one of the nine counties established by the first legislature of the Montana Territory on February 2, 1865. Initially, the county seat was set at Silver Bow, but it was later moved to Deer Lodge City on December 10, 1867, to eliminate any confusion with other locations.
