Welcome to The Sanctuary Your own private, secluded gated 1-acre paradise for you and your pet. This secluded hilltop retreat sits in the driftless region of Jo Daviess County, offering complete privacy, beauty and sweeping views. Until now, we have kept it as a private getaway for friends and family and their furry friends. Ideally located just 25 minutes from Galena or Savanna and only 10 minutes from Stockton, Elizabeth, or Hanover. It is the perfect base for exploring the area by car or bike. From the moment you pull out of the hidden driveway you’ll be greeted by some of the most scenic landscapes in Jo Daviess county. Just about 5 minutes away you’ll find Massbach Winery, Big Sky Nature Area and Woodbine Bend Golf Course. On-Site Features • Hammock, multiple seating areas, and a firepit with supplied wood • Professional stainless steel gas grill provided (bring your own 16oz disposable green propane canisters) • Two-stall changing room with camp sink (filled prior to your stay) •Hanging camp shower bag + 3 gallon supply of fresh water • Small former livestock shed for temporary storage of bikes or gear (not weatherproof) Camping Options The site is suitable for Class B campers, primitive camping, or small clamshell trailers.Welcome to The Sanctuary. Your private hilltop hideaway in the woods. Minutes away yet worlds apart. Previously used only for family and friends and now available to all Hipcampers. Location, location, location is the reason you bought that dream camping rig and gear and now you have a dream spot to park it. Whether your style is relaxing on the hammock all day or out exploring all the area has to offer, this is the place to be. Centrally located in Jo Daviess County and only 25 minutes from Galena or Savanna. Even closer are Stockton, Elizabeth, Hanover or at 10 minutes each. Are you a golfer ? Woodbine Bend is just 7 minutes away. Feeling lazy ? The Pit Stop restaurant in Stockton offers delivery service during all operating hours so why not "glamp it" and have your breakfast or lunch delivered directly to you. Breakfast by the firepit ? Lunch delivered to your hammock ? No problem. Are you a primitive camper or pehaps you prefer doing your own cooking ? Feel free to supply your own utensils and utilize the full-size grill provided. It has been adapted to fit 16oz green disposable propane cannisters. (PLEASE SUPPLY YOUR OWN ) There is also a 2 stall sink/changing area with a camp shower bag provided. Each stay will also be provided with approx 3 gallons fresh water. For bicyclists or primitive campers with gear, there is a small weather resistant but NOT waterproof utility shed for use at your own risk. IMO the most scenic gravel cycling road (Schnitzler) in the state is a 2 minute car/10 minute bike ride away. Around the campsite we have created a mulched path that leads to several 'chill stations' to read or take in nature at your leisure. Solar lights will guide the way shortly after dusk. You have likely stayed at many forgettable hotels in your life but our goal is that you won't forget your stay at The Sanctuary. We provide the space, you create the memory. *Since we know you will be curious when you see them, there is a "work in progress" cabin and camper shell that will be turned into a clubhouse and lounge as time allows. In the future we are also considering adding a "sCOOL bus" guest room as a separate sleeping quarters. It is also a "work in progress. Fpr your safety, please stay in designated areas only.

Rig suitability

Vehicles under 20 feet allowed

Class B 20' or less should have no issues driving in or backing into spot. Small trailers require some minimal unobstructed backing into designated spot.

Allowed rigs: pop-up campers, class B RVs, campervans, cars, truck campers, and rooftop tents

RVs should be driven up driveway and turn left in a in counterclockwise direction around circle and then backed into designated RV parking spot in front of the STOP sign.This is likely also where tents would set up for primitive campers

Pull-in site

Pull in and then a short backup into the designated RV spot is the best use of the space

You'll have this Hipcamp all to yourself.

Firewood provided, firepit. Firewood provided free for guest use on site

Pets allowed

Off leash. Please be wary of ticks for off leash pets as the area is rural and heavily wooded. A Dogloo doghouse is on-site for your pooch to enjoy while you lounge. Please stay in marked trails only as there may be old machinery parts and materials off trail.

No toilet; campers must bring camp toilets

For primitive campers, there is a public PortaPotty located at the Big Sky Nature area 2 miles away if desired

Showers available

Cold water only. 2 camp shower bags will be provided should guests choose to take an outdoor "camp shower" You may heat the provided water using the grill for a gravity fed hot shower if inclined.

Bins available

Trash bin. A garbage can is provided for your convenience. Please limit amount of trash to items used during your stay.

Cooking equipment present

Bbq, stovetop or hot plate, sink or other dishwashing station. A family size stainless grill is provided. It has been adapted to use the single use small green disposable 16oz propane containers available at any hardware store.

Picnic table present

A round table with seating for 4 is present

No potable water

Bring your own water. A 7 gallon container of delicious fresh filtered, softened water will be delivered to the site with each stay

This Hipcamp is PERFECT. It’s private, it’s cute, the attention to detail is phenomenal. It was so easy to find for how private it is. The little trails, all the seating options. This was definitely a Hipcamp that I must find a reason to revisit.

Camping fun with dogs.

14 ft campervan

Loved every detail and thoughtful planning. Loved the small trail down to a wonderful view of the hills. Perfect for a sunset evening. Appreciate all the communication and kind welcoming and personalized details from Rob. My dogs loved to explore all the sites ! Would definitely get back soon.
