We've been to this campsite multiple times. We love the solitude and peacefulness of the property. We appreciate the responsiveness of the host. It's truly an off-the-grid adventure and we look forward to coming back next year!

The camp site is secluded, remote, but yet accessible. The roads to the site are easily navigable for a 4x4 with decent clearance. The directions provided are clear, but complex given the labyrinth of fire roads in the area (study the instructions in advance). The Sasquatch Pub in Verdi has a great burger if you want to eat before heading into the woods. The camp site is quiet and tucked away, but it is right next to a single track access road that is occasionally used by Can-Ams and dirt-bikes (maybe, you'll see passer bys twice a day). There's structure that shields an in ground toilet pit, which has a poured concrete pad. It's in good shape and better than I expected. The fire pit and Adirondack chairs are a nice touch, but some of the chairs need to be replaced. Amazingly, cell coverage was steady and fast. The host, David, was very responsive and pleasant.

This campsite was fabulous. The road has been maintained— our Volvo made it in and out of the campsite just fine. The site was peaceful, quiet, and the stars were like no other. We enjoyed morning walks to the meadow looking at the wildlife and the mountains that surround. The Truckee River is a short drive and the perfect place to freshen up. Just before the dirt roads there is a wonderful little restaurant called The Sasquatch Tavern and Grill- the best burgers! The chairs and picnic tables provided were much appreciated and the outhouse did its job just fine. We enjoyed small campfires to pop some popcorn and roast some marshmallows. The cell service was great which was an added bonus. I would highly recommend this beautiful slice of heaven to anyone!

This was our third time camping at Alpine Valley, you can see our previous reviews below. We keep coming back for the solitude, the adventure of being completely off the grid for a few days (except for the great cell phone reception which is nice!), the unique sweet smell of the mountain foliage in the summer, the cool nights, and the tranquility. I've noticed that the forest service roads leading to the camp have been slowly improved over the past few years. You'll probably still want four wheel drive, but it's definitely not a challenging drive at this point. We have a totally stock 4Runner with street tires and one of those receiver hitch cargo carriers sticking out the back, and we had no trouble whatsoever. The creek was flowing this year which was a really fun addition. Enjoy the camp and please remember to pack out everything that you pack in: we want to continue to enjoy this spot for years to come.

While the description of the directions/area is accurate it should be noted that a 4X4 is necessary. We took my 2WD Chevy Equinox out there and ended up stranded because a large rock cracked my radiator. It should also be noted that there was no creek. Everything was bone dry. I understand this was August and obviously not the fault of the host but if you are expecting a creek for some relief (like we were since we brought our dog) there is no water. Just a few things to be aware of.

Beautiful setting, quiet except for the creek but a very soothing sound. This is really a great campsite if you have a vehicle that can handle rough roads (we made it no problem!). A beautiful area to explore. Disappointed that we we were unable to use the toilet as it was just a hole in the ground. I found that out a week before and was not able to cancel because of the rigid policy. There are pictures in the listing of a wine barrel with a hole cut in the top and a toilet seat. That would have worked but it was not there. When I asked, I was only told that “there is no toilet seat.” That was disappointing. Also, last campers left the ash bin (for the toilet) full of bottles. Hard to manage this kind of site from a couple hundred miles away. I also have to say that the rate is way to high for what you get considering I could have camped anywhere within a mile of there on national forest land for free.

Are you interested in remote/dispersed camping but are nervous about arriving to the forest after driving for hours and then not finding a spot? Want to find a beautiful campsite that is truly isolated but is a half hour drive to stores/restaurants and a major freeway? Want to interact with a friendly and communicative host ? This is why we returned for a second camping adventure at this spot. Reading some of the other reviews of fellow travelers, I want to emphasize: make sure you are prepared. This is not an "asphalt RV parking lot with coin operated showers" kind of place. You'll need an off-road capable vehicle, self-contained water and cooking gear, and a wildlife friendly "pack-it-in, pack-it-out" attitude. And if you forget anything, just cruise back to town and pick it up!

Unfortunately for the outrageous price we paid the camp area was terrible! We expected to be out in the wilderness but the fact that there was no natural water on the property and the closest…..not the truckee River like the listing says was extremely far away on some of the worst roads I have ever seen. Mind you we paid $600 for 2 days, 10 people. Only one car can fit and there was just barely enough room for us. The property is in pretty bad condition. Chairs were missing, and toilet was really really bad. Again they charge waaaay to much for no water on the property and a toilet in the open. It’s a rip off……also even with a large truck the roads are absolutely terrible. Again, it’s a rip off and I don’t suggest this place for anyone.

David was such a great host. He answered all my questions promptly. It was a fun and awesome journey to get to the camp site. David's step by step instructions were flawless. There are spray painted landmarks to assist once you get closer to the site.
Getting to the site was a blast. There are some trails by the site if you want to explore. Definitely need a 4x4 or AWD, and clearance will help.
The site itself was peaceful and quiet. Didn't see any animals at all during the weekend. I suggest you pay for the firewood package. There's plenty out there to keep you warm.

Really beautiful location and fun off-roading to get to the location. When we arrived at the site there were dirt bike riders taking a break in the site and we saw a lot of riders during our time there as well as a lot of gunshots going off from what I would presume to be hunters. The directions were good and the campsite was in pretty good shape. Unfortunately the stream was dry, not sure if you could fish there either way. Used the overlanding trails to mountain bike ride and then fished in dog creek closer to Verdi. I would definitely go back to this area to overland as there are a lot of places out in this area to stay.

Amazing property completely surrounded by National Forest land! Host was very communicative and helpful. Great place for experienced campers wanting the off-grid National Forest experience but seeking a reserved campsite.
In order to keep this great place available to us all for years to come: please leave the site in great condition and practice meticulous fire safety!

Great place to camp if you're looking to get away from people. The campsite had everything we needed from chairs, to picnic tables, although we were prepared with our own had someone beaten us to the campsite.
We had a 2WD Toyota Rav 4 in our group and they made it to camp in the rain with no problem. Although we also had two lifted 4Runners in case they got stuck. The trail was slightly bumpy but nothing that would deter us from coming back.
All in all, I'd recommend if you're camping in a larger group and don't want to deal with disturbing others!

Amazing secluded spot! Best directions I’ve ever had to a hipcamp. Really nice setup at camp too with some adirondack chairs and a couple nice fire pits. We spent all afternoon just relaxing and exploring.

Pleasant piece of land bordering the National Forrest. The road going in was somewhat treacherous (in March) for the last 3 miles. AWD/4WD and good clearance was necessary. For reference, we took a Forester and got tossed around a bit. Really fun off roading if that’s what you’re looking for and nice spots along the creek for camping.

Make sure you follow instructions and have an all wheel drive (4x4) preferably with good clearance. Location is very remote, saw a few people ride on road with quads/dirt bikes but otherwise it’s as remote as it gets. Nice campsite, there are a few to choose from. Flat with a fire pit. No fires were allowed when I went due to a fire ban but still had a great time. Creek was dry and night was cold but that’s to be expected in November with no rain. Can’t wait to return in Spring/summer when things are warmer and Forest is lush.

Great site if you like "rugged" campsites. Perfect for what we wanted, will definitely go back. The roads are very bumpy going in - more so than most USFS roads - and you do need a little ground clearance but this is part of what makes this site great. We have a 4wd truck (not lifted) but a Subaru or other AWD vehicle would do fine. You do not need a "lifted vehicle" as some of the other reviews said but a "Civic type" car wouldn't make it.
We had ORVs drive by the site roughly every hour but most of them slowed down, turned down their music, and waved. Nights were completely silent except for the coyotes in the distance.
We had a little trouble finding the exact sites based on the directions. There are no indications that you are on private land other than the Forest Services signs and most of them are torn down or have so many bullet holes you can't see them. Just be prepared, the mileage after the last turn is the key, if you aren't exact you likely won't hit the correct sites (the host says this in the instructions). We stayed in the site on the right (up the embankment). It was definitely the nicer site for an RTT. If you are tent camping I recommend going even farther up the hill away from the road. We were there in the fall and the creek was completely dry. There is no water anywhere near the site this time of year so be prepared.
I highly recommend this site if you are a runner or gravel grinder. We did a 7.5 mile trail run and a 14 mile gravel ride and the site is in a location that allowed us to find smaller dirt roads that had little to no ORV traffic without having to drive anywhere. When we did come across ORVs most of them were very respectful and slowed down for us to minimize the dust.

This was a great spot. Very private and beautiful. Be prepared to really pay attention to the directions as it is a tad difficult to find - although it was getting dark for us which made it more challenging. However we have a great time and would definitely go back.

Super secluded and private area, as it's essentially 40 acres to yourself.
There's a campsite with a fire ring right off the road, with a path that leads you deeper into the parcel of land.
You don't need a lifted car to get to this campsite, but if you want to explore the rest of the land, you're definitely gonna want something lifted, maybe even decent skid plates.
Lots of dead wood around for a campfire, and a pretty great view of the sunrise/sunset.
All in all, would return again. As long as you know what you're getting into and know what to bring, you're gonna have a great time.

Definitely off the beaten path, this is a nice spot in the forest for a secluded stay. If you have ever wanted to try dispersed camping in a National Forest, but were unsure about how to find a spot, or concerned about if you would be able to find a place to camp, this is your chance to try it out with a patch of private property reserved for you and surrounded by public lands. The Dog Valley area is beautiful and this patch of property is in a nice location. There are some free dispersed camping spots along the way you will pass in the National Forest, however this Hipcamp site is in a good location and ensures you have a secluded slice of the area reserved for you. A rough forest service road skims the edge of the property so I did see one family drive by during my stay, but that was it, other than a visit from a black bear in the early evening (scared off with some yelling). I stayed late in the summer so the creek was dry on the way in. The dirt driving is mostly on fairly well maintained gravel/dirt forest service roads, but the last section is a narrower more rocky drive. Definitely need a high clearance vehicle, and 4wd would be helpful in a few spots (certainly if there was any mud or snow in the early season). This is off grid camping so be prepared for no bathrooms and bring your own water.
Leave no trace. The host is very responsive, and provides detailed directions etc. This is not for the novice camper though, as you are in a fairly remote location, may encounter wildlife, and need to be fully self sufficient.

Gorgeous space, very very secluded - I think we saw one other car drive by in 24 hours. Definitely recommend high clearance vehicle to get up to the site. Would definitely come back.

Very remote site. Road is a bit rough, so be sure to have a sturdy vehicle! David was quite responsive by text/email when I had questions. Cell service: I had 2 bars on AT&T. Staying on this lovely property places you in the wilderness--no one else around.

Very peaceful location. The roads are wild getting to the site but the listing gave fair warning! A some broken glass and empty shells at the site but nothing that would stop us from recommending it. Great area for slack line and hammocks. Super quiet except for dirt bikers and the ATVs that went by a few times per day. Swimming hole along the meadow road was freezing but refreshing.
