Sven's Basecamp Hostel is a small hostel that's open to campers and travelers from all over the world. It is owned and run by Sven, who came to Alaska from Switzerland when he was 21. He has run the hostel for 9 years now and loves meeting people traveling to Alaska! Learn more about this land: Pitch your tent in our on-property forest! We have unlimited space for campers, and can't wait to meet you and hear your stories. We are a traveler's hostel with plenty of room for tent campers, so expect to meet people from all over the world. You will have access to 3 flush toilets, a sink area, coin-operated showers (25 cents per minute), a full kitchen with a stove, microwave, and refrigerators, and a community fire pit. We will also have an on-site coffee shop opening on July 1, 2021.

Welcome to Sven's Basecamp Hostel Pitch your tent in our on-property forest! We have a handful of tent spaces available for campers. We can't wait to meet you and hear your stories. We are a traveler's hostel so expect to meet people from all over the world. You will have access to 3 flush toilets, a sink area, coin-operated showers (25 cents per minute), a full kitchen with a stove, microwave, and refrigerators, and a community fire pit. Our on-site coffee shop is open from 7am - 12pm every day.

Communication! We reserved a spot, had our card charged, showed up late in the evening ready to settle down and they were shut down for the season! Haven’t been able to get our $ refunded as of yet…

WARNING READ before staying here

Warning if you have family or kid this is not a place for you we pulled in and the first person we meet offered as DRUGS then I walk in and there as a big party going we have been traveling all day and did not want DRUGS OR AND PARTY my wife felt unsafe with the people walk around the parking lot so we left text the own about the DRUGS and said we would not be staying there and could he refund us he said NO this place is great we told again about the DRUGS so be where if you think about staying here?

The tenting site is communal. You don't have your own tent site. You can't drive your vehicle to the site, so you need to haul your stuff in on the provided carts. The amenities are fine and you can have interaction with other travelers. You can book directly with the hostel and save the Hipcamp fee.

We very much enjoyed the atmosphere. Sven and the staff was exceptionally kind and friendly. The amenities were great. The only drawback was the amount of noise. The site is located next to an airport, so planes were landing and taking off overhead all day and night. In addition, there is roadwork nearby, also causing a lot of noise. Otherwise, the stay was very nice.
