Mill Creek Station was originally the place where the mules werechanged out to oxen to go up old Sherwin Grade to the north. Road was the old road going to Mammoth and north to Reno. It was later a gas station and mini-mart. Learn more about this land: Mill Creek Station Hip Camp parallels Hwy 395, nine miles north of Bishop, half an hour to Mammoth Mountain, an hour from the entrance to Yosemite and two and half hours from Death Valley. Surrounded by world class mountain biking, climbing, hiking, skiing, as well as historic railroad and mining museums. All halfway between Los Angeles and Reno in the eastern Sierra. We have space for three motor homes or RVs. There are no pull throughs so if you are towing a car you may disconnect it and park the car in our parking lot. You must be self contained with water and power. Generators are OK. There is a restroom but there is no shower. We have a hanging fire pit in the backyard behind our house which you may use. Upon request we will open it for you. Wi-fi is available at our residence on the front porch or the backyard .We are 420 friendly but request that cigarette smoking be contained to open areas away from those of us who cannot tolerate cigarette smoke. No Pets please. Our backyard is unique as it was an old stone quarry at one time and now has an outdoor stage for occasional music events which you are invited to attend as well as to explore the rocks. We have a mineral museum and a climbing and mountaineering exhibit dedicated to Warren Harding, a legendary rock climbing pioneer and friend Recreation is unlimited in this area. Mammoth Mountain ski area is ½ hour away. It is also a world class mountain biking destination. There are many other cycling areas in the vicinity as well as hiking, rock climbing, bouldering, fishing, kayaking and general outdoor exploration. We are at an elevation of 4,500 ft and rarely have snow in the winter. We can provide a long list of climbs, hiking trails, and other adventure sports and scenic exploration. In Bishop the Paiute Casino is 6 miles to the south. Laws Historic Railroad and Mining Museum is 14 miles away. It is open to the public with 11 acres of interesting displays of the old western railroad buildings and artifacts including the huge 20 Mule Team Borax wagons. It is a great place to picnic. We are close to western Nevada’s historic mining towns like Goldfield, Tonopah and Gold Point. Death Valley is 2 ½ hours away. Las Vegas is 5 hours and the eastern entrance to Yosemite is 1 hour to the north by Mono Lake. Enjoy your visit! Mill Creek Station HWY 395 Bishop

We booked this campsite for two nights, upon arriving on the first night we realized the photos didnt reflect the campsite and we couldnt get a response from the host. There were other cars/campers parked where we were told to park and others camping. We asked a man who was entering one of the parked campers and he said he didn’t know people camped there which made us feel uneasy about staying. We had to leave and book a hotel since other campsites were booked.

Hidden gem on Highway 395

Roger is a very interesting person with incredible stories to tell of his life. He took care of our electricity hookup needs promptly and also showed us around his carefully curated rock museum. The RV spot is also conveniently located by the highway and part of his home with a restroom included. So glad we found this place!

I had everything I needed. The host was very friendly. At first glance I felt a little unsettled but once I checked in the host was so supportive and friendly with great stories. I wish I had more time to talk more with the host. Maybe next time. It's about 10 minutes north of Bishop

Rarely do you get to meet such a genuine and interesting person as Roger. Do yourself a favor and go visit him as soon as you can! The location is great for a couple nights break exploring bishop, on the way up to mammoth, or further north up the 395. The bathroom was clean and the location was charming. The station itself is too unique to fit into a review. It's literally a museum of mountaineering photos, geodes, crystals, and minerals, and mementos of a life well lived between Roger and Mary Lou. Thanks for hosting us Roger. Until next time.

A cute little spot, easy access from the hiway. The host was friendly and the bathroom was clean. I didn't have time to explore nearby, rather just an overnight stop. It seemed expensive for what there was, but it felt safe and was pleasant enough.

Great folks and atmosphere

Mill Creek Station HWY 395 Bishop

This was a fabulous spot to spend the night. The spot for the van was clean and flat. The bathroom was also very clean and private. Roger and Jack were hugely welcoming and we felt very quickly at home. The mesa starts right behind Rogers property and you can explore after a short scramble. The highway was a bit louder than we expected but also further away. Bishop is a 5-10 min drive away with a good grocery store and plenty of spots to eat.

Mary Lou and Roger are great hosts! They are pretty unique and so welcoming and we felt like home. They gave us possibility to choose the site to spend the night and we enjoyed time with them listening to the their life stories together with watermelon :) Definitely worth spending night there and we hope to be back again some time to enjoy the music in their beautiful backyard!

Mill Creek Station HWY 395 Bishop

We loved camping with Mary Lou and Roger. They are two very unique and welcoming people. They had a spot ready for us and our teardrop camper. We enjoyed the music they had in their backyard one evening and enjoyed listening to stories of their life adventures over dinner and ice cream. We highly recommend this spot if you’re ever in the area. We will definitely be back to camp with them again.

Perfect, easy spot, amazing hosts

Mill Creek Station HWY 395 Bishop

This is a phenomenonal spot, easy to get to and more than worth it. Roger and Mary Lou's property is a reflection of their lives, with gems and photos and artifacts that easily convey the bold, loving, and rare spirits that they very much are. They are extraordinarily generous with their time, and we are so grateful for it. This is a rare gem, and we will be back each and every time through. Their property is a destination all its own. I should also note that the bathroom is next to the RV spaces and it is very clean.

We enjoyed our overnight stay on our way to go mountain biking at Mammoth Mountain. The backyard was interesting to explore in the morning before we left. We will stay there again in the future.

Unique stopover on Hwy. 395 Bishop

We pulled our camper in around 5pm and were greeted by the host Mary Lou. She told us we could use the fire pit in their backyard “quarry” which we gladly took her up on. It was fun to visit Mill Creek Station as we had passed by it many times before on our way to Mammoth. We’re heading to Reno so this was a good mid-point stopover from Orange County. My 12-year old really enjoyed the gem museum and exploring the rocks in the quarry. Overall very convenient and far more interesting than a KOA or county campground!

Mary Lou and Roger are incredibly knowledgeable about the area and fascinating people to talk to. The site was comfortable with a lovely view of the Sierras. It’s easy access off 395 and definitely good for larger motor homes. Close to great hiking, climbing and mountain biking. Perfect stop between Death Valley and Yosemite.
