What is the best time of year to visit Dumfries?

October to March is the best time of year to head further west into Galloway Forest Park (a designated Dark Sky Park) to do some stargazing. Summer is the most popular time to visit Dumfries and the surrounding Dumfries and Galloway region, but it can bring crowds and booked-up campsites. If planning to visit in the summer, try to avoid travelling during the Scottish school holidays in July and August.
