Amazing views
Hipcampers say this spot has amazing views.
Wales' westernmost campsite, boasting stunning views overlooking Ramsey Sound on the Pembrokeshire Coast

All manner of weird and wonderful campsites are brought to your attention via Hipcamp, but we all need a little bit of normality in our lives and this includes campsites where us average bods, whether couples or families, can enjoy a standard camping holiday – after all not all of us are searching out the weird or eccentric.

This is where Rhosson Ganol rides to the rescue, and where there isn’t a yurt or a tipi to be seen. Neither are the owners on a campaign to save the planet, and there is absolutely nothing strange or uniquely different trying to sell the site to the camping punters. They (the Griffiths family – Henry, David and Kate) just want their guests to enjoy their holidays.

The wide and unspoilt view may very well be the strongest reason for falling in love with Rhosson Ganol, but there is something else here gnawing at the senses, and it could be that feeling of being in a place where there is nothing beyond. In effect this is the Welsh version of Land’s End, or John o’ Groats, with Rhosson Ganol being the westernmost campsite in Wales. All this can be felt in your bones, too, sitting outside the tent staring happily and vacantly out at the sea on a warm summer evening.

Right, enough notional nonsense, for this is a fantastically practical place to come for that normal camping holiday we promised. Before venturing too far from the site in search of things to see and do it is worth kicking off the explorations by strolling down to that rocky little cove at Porthstinian, where a few leisurely facts become clear. The first being that a walk along the coast path from here is eminently possible, with a bus service bringing walkers back to base at the end of the day.

There are also quite a number of boat trips running out of Porthstinian, offering a bewildering variety of aquatic adventures including contrasts such as a visit to the RSPB reserve on Ramsey Island, to an outrageously mad jet-boat session in the whirlpools and big, big waves that batter this coastline. Added to all this is the existence of a nice beach just half a mile away, the city (well, it’s a village really) of St Davids just over a mile, and the whole of west Pembrokeshire readily accessible from this small campsite, which teeters on the very edge and makes a normal kind of holiday something rather extraordinary.

Grass pitch
One word… STUNNING
We’ve just come back from a long weekend at the campsite… omg what a beautiful place! Amazing location newgale and white sands on the door step, the view you wake up to ever morning of ramsey island is unbelievable! I accidentally booked a grass pitch for our tourer caravan, but david was so lovely and upgraded us to an electric pitch free of charge! 10/10 clean spotless toilets and hot showers. Dog friendly. WiFi isn’t brilliant but to be honest we wanted to give our phones and TV a break so didn’t bother us… but you won’t have time for social media and texting when you’re in such a beautiful part of the world. RNLI station definitely worth a visit you can see it from the site, visit the cathedral it’s stunning and all the little shops in st David’s! We can’t wait to return! Thank you so much David

Wonderful site, great for walking
I had a fantastic stay on David’s site. The hookup location gave me wonderful views over the sea and Ramsey Island. The washing facilities, while a bit of a walk away, were spotlessly clean. The site was an excellent starting point for walks on the coast path and within easy reach of St David’s on foot. Although Wi-Fi was advertised, I couldn’t find a network, but who goes camping for Wi-Fi anyway? I’ll be back!

This is a beautiful place .. amazing views … Lovely new facilties. WiFi there but limited to a few pitches. Owners lovely and doing best to manage flooded pitches and stuck vehicles. A bit pricey for us with a simple small tent but hey ho seems to be the way.

Grass pitch
Rhosson Ganol ❤️❤️
Wow! Amazing views. Toilets very clean and great showers. All guests on site were respectful of each other. Only negative I’d say was not being able to find anyone to tell us what pitch we were on. Fortunately other campers told us about the notice board at the entrance which listed customers pitch number. Will definitely return to this site , we loved it.

Beautiful setting and fab campsite.
Rhosson Ganol is in a stunning location. It overlooks the Irish Sea and Ramsey Island, it overlooks the rolling hills down to the sea and best of all you get amazing sunsets from the campsite. The shower blocks are nice, clean and well maintained. The pitches were large so you had lots of space to spread out and have your camper or tent in any direction you wished to have it. Although David was not there when we arrived he answered the phone immediately when we called him. Very accommodating and pleasant man. Will certainly recommend and be back to this stunning place.

Rhosson Ganol has 35 pitches all in a scenic location overlooking Ramsey Sounds. The large camping field gives you plenty of choice on where you wish to pitch your tent for your holiday. There are plenty of walks nearby along the coastal path with a handy bus service bringing walkers back to base at the end of each day. There are also a number of boat trips running out of Porthstinian, offering a bewildering variety of aquatic adventures including a visit to the RSPB reserve on Ramsey Island. All our pitches are pre-determined, however we will try our best to accommodate for your preferences.
