Peaceful meadow camping on an eco-friendly site on the Llŷn Peninsula

Environmentally and socially sound camping is on offer at Felin Uchaf Meadow Camping in the glorious surroundings of the Llŷn Peninsula. This arm of land that stretches out to sea from the north west of Snowdonia is such a beautiful place to holiday that in summer it can get rather busy – but you won’t know that out here. Just a couple of miles inland from the tip of Llŷn, Felin Uchaf is a former farm that’s now home to an eco-friendly cultural centre that’s run as a social enterprise. It has an organic garden, a cafe, a craft shop and a meadow for folk to camp in. It’s within easy reach of the sandy beaches that make Llŷn so popular but the countryside location and the vibe of the site mean that almost everyone who comes offers a similar review. It’s peaceful, beautiful and natural. Some might say it's delightful too.

It’ll suit campers who like things wild and organic rather than those who like neat lines, freshly mown lawns and clinical facilities. Here, your pitch is in a meadow, your toilet is composting and your showers, though hot, are rustic and semi open air. The campsite, and the centre in general, tends to attract like-minded people and if you’re in the mood to socialise there are plenty of ways to do so. The communal campfire is one, twice-weekly storytelling events, volunteer days in the garden and summer craft workshops are others.

If you’re not feeling sociable, that’s okay as well. There are more than 40 acres on site with woodland walks and nature trails to follow so there’s plenty of space for everyone – and lots to tempt you further afield too. The coastal path offers walks all around the peninsula and your hosts are more than happy to offer advice on quieter coves and countryside walks. The popular village of Aberdaron is less than four miles away where you can hire kayaks or head off on a boat trip to Bardsey Island. It’s not much further to surfer’s favourite, Porth Neigwl, and the more bustling village of Abersoch with its eateries, amenities and watersports is only 10 miles away.

Stunner
Absolutely stunning campsite. Nicely spaced out pitches and very quiet. There’s 9 pitches and during our 2 night bank holiday weekend stay there was only one other tent for one night. Perfect.

Close to Nature
I thoroughly enjoy camping at Felin Uchaf, I have camped there on three occasions now. Each site is of good size and plenty of space between them. Nature plays a major role here and is an integral component of what makes this place unique. There are plenty of walks to explore and a visit to the wonderful cafe is a must. Highly recommended

Beautiful
The campsite feels secluded and wild, and was the perfect week long solo retreat. The peninsula itself has good walks, both coastal and inland. And the microclimate is slightly warmer then Snowdonia itself. The campsite is attached to a rather unique project exploring traditional architecture and building methods, aligned both with the wider natural world. and ancient mythology. Looking forward to revisiting.

Private camping fields based within the site of Menter Y Felin Uchaf. Felin Uchaf is host to several traditional and eco buildings, an observatory, a craft shop, farm shop, a regenerative farm and market garden, woodland walks, roundhouse and cabin accommodation, as well as being a hub for storytelling and music evenings, private and public events and gatherings, and weekly volunteering opportunities. We also hope to re-open our garden Cafe once more over the summer months (dates still unconfirmed). Guests are welcome to walk around the site. A small oasis nestled within woodland and hedgerows planted up to 20 years ago, providing seclusion and immersion in nature. We are surrounded by beautiful a coastline, quiet beaches (can be busy at the peak of summer - happy to suggest quieter spots!), and hill top hikes. A stay here offers the perfect location to explore all that the Llyn Peninsula has to offer and a chance for plenty of walking, swimming, surfing and exploring for those wanting to be in nature. We are happy to suggest some of the best spots for a day out, as well as local eateries and cafes, and the nearest amenities if needed!
Nearby attractions

Felin Ufach Meadow Camping is situated in countryside towards the tip of Wales’ Llŷn Peninsula. The former farm site is now a eco-friendly community centre run as a green social enterprise with lovely gardens, a craft shop and a cafe on site. You are welcome to explore all of it. There are summer workshops and occasional events including storytelling on site. Ask your hosts for information on any events that might be taking place during your stay. There’s lovely coastal walking all the way around the peninsula on the Wales Coast Path and plenty of beaches to visit. The closest is the sandy mile stretch at Aberdaron (just over three miles away). A National Trust visitor centre on the outskirts has local information and runs kayaking sessions twice a week in the summer (on Tuesdays and Saturdays). The area is also known for sailing and kitesurfing as well as for being the launching point for Bardsey Island. The island, two miles off the tip of the peninsula, is a good place to see seabirds and seals and has been a place of pilgrimage since the Middle Ages. Porth Neigwl is another beach near the campsite (though the car park is nine miles away at its furthest end). It is a long sandy stretch that’s known for good surf as it faces the Atlantic. On days when the wind comes from the other direction, it’s perfect for paddleboards. Plas Yn Rhiw is a 17th century manor house with gardens that are open to the public (and a tearoom) three miles down the road. Abersoch, the best-known and busiest seaside resort on Llŷn is 10 miles away. Anywhere within the peninsula can be reached within 40 minutes and the edge of Snowdonia National Park is only about 45 minutes away.

Food and drink

There’s a lovely cafe on site that’s part of the social enterprise – check in advance if it’s open during your stay. There’s also a shop selling wholefoods and veg from the garden on the weekends. For more than that, head into Aberdaron (four miles) where there’s a well-stocked Spar and the Becws Islyn Bakery, among the shops. It’s also the closest place for fish and chips by the beach. If you fancy more of a sit-down meal choose from Ty Newydd or The Ship. There are lots more eateries in Abersoch.
