An off-grid two-yurt glamping site in the Welsh Berwyn Mountains

There must be something in the water at Greener Glamping. Almost everyone who comes here feels so rejuvenated that they ask to stay an extra night. In fact, it was happening so often that Nathan and Shayne, who run the site, brought in a three-night booking minimum. It’s just enough time to relax into the rhythm of life at this out-of-the way site in the Welsh Berwyn Mountains.

This two-yurt glamping site is a kilometre from the nearest neighbours and completely off grid. These days that’s not an uncommon claim, but here at Greener Glamping it’s especially true as Nathan and Shayne aren’t just providing this lifestyle for their glampers; they are living it too. Any power that’s used is generated renewably and water is fresh from a mountain spring. Despite our earlier claims, there’s actually nothing in it; well nothing but the good stuff anyway. The water here is as pure before the filtering and UV treatment that’s required by the authorities, as it is afterwards. There’s certainly no need to bring a bottle of Evian and, actually, little need for anything else either.

The yurts, one sleeping four, the other up to seven, are kitted out with beds, bedding and log burners. Outside, each has a fire pit and space for outdoor cooking as well as an equipped kitchen cabin, its own composting loo and shower. All you need to bring is food and anything you want by way of entertainment. Forget the iPad and bring a book, leave the stereo and pick up your guitar. It’s that sort of place. Somewhere to calm down, slow down and perhaps stay an extra day.

The site is surprisingly tiny, just half a hilly acre but with only two yurts and miles of surrounding countryside and forest it feels completely uncrowded. Step off site and you’re into the wild with miles of woodland and moors to explore. It’s possible to walk for hours and not meet anyone at all but, if it’s civilisation you’re after, there’s a pub and a shop a mile down the hill. For climbing, cycling and adventure, Snowdonia National Park is 20 minutes’ drive away. South, across the sparsely-populated, heather-clad Berwyn Mountains, is Pistyll Rhaeadr waterfall, Wales’ highest single-drop fall and, legend has it, the gateway to the Celtic Otherworld. Mysterious standing stones, stories of fairies and giants and spiritual significance are all linked to this part of north Wales. No matter what you believe, there’s no denying that the abundant greenery, wildlife and stars mean there’s a kind of magic in the fresh mountain air. Perhaps even, in the water.

Ty Crwn Bach Idris - Yurt

100%

Yurt · Sleeps 4
Ty Crwn Bach Idris is a very comfortable yurt in an amazing forest/mountain location with spectacular views which can easily accommodate four people.  It has a comfy double bed and a double futon sofa bed.  It is beautifully furnished with lovely linens, wall hangings, rugs and fairy lights creating a warm and magical space. The log cabin near the yurt contains a full kitchen (including gas cooker, electric fridge, toaster, sink with hot and cold water), dining area and shower room with power shower, flushing toilet and sink. The log cabin facilities are for the sole use of the guests staying in Ty Crwn Bach Idris. The yurt is light and airy with a clear round glass opening window in the roof and a south facing stable door to help keep things cool on sunny days and hot summer nights. The wood burning stove heats up the space very quickly. The floor and walls are insulated so it's toasty even in the coldest of winters. There is also a BBQ and a fire pit.  The covered deck outside the yurt provides somewhere sheltered to sit, hang out in the hammock and enjoy the BBQ or the fire pit. There are 230v sockets and lights which all run off sustainable energy sources. So by staying in Ty Crwn Bach Idris you will be doing your bit to reduce pollution and carbon emissions. WiFi internet is provided at no extra cost but due to our very rural location the internet can sometimes be a bit temperamental! Towels and hand soap are provided. Washing up liquid, tea towels, dish cloths are provided. Bed linen, pillows and duvets are supplied for all beds as required. Pans, crockery, cutlery, mugs, glasses etc all provided but we do ask that you wash up and leave them clean as you found them on your arrival. A well behaved and fully house trained puppy/dog(s) will be allowed by prior arrangement and agreement only. There will be an extra charge of £5/night/dog which will be taken care of by altering the reservation. There are further terms and conditions that you will need your agreement. DO NOT BOOK UNTIL YOU HAVE OBTAINED OUR EXPRESS AGREEMENT TO BRING YOUR DOG(S). If you need assistance with anything just ask. We are here to help and glad to do so. :-) Guest Access The yurt is set well apart from the main house and the other larger yurt.  The log cabin kitchen/dining room and bathroom are a few meters away. You will have your privacy but we are only too happy to chat, help, spend time, advise on places to go, things to do, where to walk etc. Apparently we are very approachable! Feel free to play guitars, drums, or to sing your heart out if you are musically inclined. Enjoy the space but please be mindful of other guests and your hosts in terms of noise levels. You are welcome to quietly enjoy the land, sit by the pond and generally make yourselves at home. If we are enjoying our private spaces in our garden please do be mindful of us in terms of noise levels and our privacy. Especially if you are bringing kids with you!! We are all for having some fun and if you ask us we’ll generally be happy for you to hang out with us but sometimes we like our own space too. Other things to note Weather conditions: Please note that on the fairly infrequent occasions that the temperature drops below zero for more than a few of days the water supply to the cabin may start to freeze and we might then have to drain the system to prevent damage to pipes/fittings and the water heater. We have 'winterised' the plumbing but if the temperature seriously drops below zero for an extended period then there won't be much we can do. We will be able to supply water in containers for drinking, cooking and washing and the compost loo will still be fully functional. We are up at 400m so if there is heavy and persistent snowfall, access to the property from the village one mile away may only be possible on foot or in a 4x4 vehicle. It's all part of the adventure!!! On the North Berwyn Way walking route. We have OS maps covering the whole of North Wales and along with some walking guidebooks these can be borrowed if you leave us a small returnable deposit. Wet wipes and single use plastic bottles (specifically water) are banned on site. Please consider our environment and purchase a multi-use water bottle. Do bring your own torches/lamps for use outside the yurt and matches/lighter  to light the stove/bbq/fire pit/gas hob.  You will need to supply your own charcoal for the BBQ or if you request it in advance we can arrange that for you. No traditional or noisy ‘stag’ or ‘hen’ parties!! Respectful and considerate use of the spaces is welcomed.

Greener Glamping is a small, perfectly formed and truly peaceful off-grid sustainable glampsite with two gorgeous, warm and cosy yurts. A secluded off grid low impact property surrounded by woodland and hills under clear skies with no light pollution. Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty on the doorstep and Snowdonia National Park nearby. A place to relax, get back to nature and recharge yourself. Comfort and luxury are not sacrificed in any way with the fully self contained yurts and their fantastic fully equipped kitchen and bathroom facilities lit, powered and heated with renewable/sustainable energy sources (produced on site where possible). Hot showers and running hot and cold water in both kitchen/bathroom facilities. Wood stoves in both the yurts. Nestling deep in Cynwyd Forest high in the Berwyn Mountains of North Wales, Greener Glamping is a wonderful place to get away from it all, remember what really matters and who you truly are. You'll be well away from it all but shops, pubs, restaurants and plenty of attractions and activities are within easy reach. Deep peace pervades. Silence…with only the sounds of abundant nature. Breathe fresh clean air and enjoy the gorgeous mountain spring water. unplug ∙ recharge ∙ grow ∙ be

Greener Glamping is deep in Cynwyd Forest, in the Berwyn Mountains and above the Dee Valley Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty in North Wales. Snowdonia National Park is just 20 minutes away. Between the two, there's all the outdoor activity you could wish for: walking, cycling, climbing, white-water rafting, archery, gorge walking, zip lines, underground trampolines, kayaking, canoeing, surfing, sailing, kite-surfing and so on and so on and so on. The site sits on the North Berwyn Way walking route and Pistyll Rhaeadr, Wales' highest waterfall and a place of great significance in Celtic legend, is just over 10 miles south (though getting there by car takes longer than that might suggest due to the circuitous mountain roads).

Food and drink

The closest pub, The Blue Lion (01490 413656) is in the village of Cynwyd, a mile down the hill. The village also has a little shop which sells any basics you might need. For more than that, try Rhug Organic Farm shop, four miles away, which also has a café or head to Corwen (about the same distance) where there are butchers, bakers, a mini market and an off licence.
