Glamping on a former farm and working mill with a private lake, plenty of space to explore and stunning views across the Welsh countryside

Planning a glamping site may seem simple at first – buy some accommodation, fill it with the most luxurious items you can find and install some plush facilities – but the reality of blending these comforts with the back-to-nature camping ethos is easier said than done. How refreshing it is, then, to find a site as subtly sublime as Sloeberry Farm in West Wales – a place where glamping is done right.

The first thing that strikes you about the place when you arrive is the sheer space of it all. The buttercup-dotted meadows and naturally irregular lines of mature trees seem to have been left to their own devices. Bushes bulge and tiny birds flitter along the hedge lines. For children, the exploration opportunities are endless.

The accommodation, meanwhile, seems to fit within the space just as a harmoniously as a herd of cows might have done some years ago. There are a couple of timber cabins and four ginormous canvas lodges, built of wood and a forest-green canvas that camouflages them among the surroundings. Although the accommodation, with private facilities and hot tubs, is comfortably and undeniably glamping, it retains the rustic vibe of a good old-fashioned farm campsite with ample space to roam. Little wonder then that Sloeberry Farm has been awarded the prestigious Gold Award by Visit Wales.

Each of the cabins and lodges features comfy made-up beds, a fully-equipped kitchen, old-style lanterns and a log-burning stove. And outside every one has a private wood-fired hot tub, picnic table, barbecue and fire pit. Crucially each has its own facilities too — en suite for the lodges which can sleep up to six and just out back of the cabins which cater to families of up to four.

From the farm you can join local lanes and footpaths heading down to the coast – it's about a three-mile walk all the way down to Aberporth beach. Or you can drive there and enjoy a walk along the coastal path instead. The choice is yours but when you stay at Sloeberry Farm you’re certainly starting in the right place!

Otter Lodge with wood fired hot tub

88%
(4)
Safari tent · Sleeps 6
After a long day exploring the area or walking by the coast our lodges are designed to be the perfect base to come back to, sit back, relax and take in the sunset across the lake. Sleeping Each lodge sleeps up to 6 (groups containing 3 or more adults only by prior arrangement) and 1 dog. There is a large master bedroom with a king bed, a bunk bed room sleeping 2 (with full size bunkbed), and a king cabin bed for those that want to hideaway. All with proper beds made up with luxurious linensuperwarm duvets. Everyone will be lulled to sleep by the sounds of the otter brook burbling past. Behind the bedrooms is shower room and separate cloak room with basin and flushing toilet.  Please contact us if you would like a different arrival day or trip length or check SloeberryFarm.com. Cooking The kitchen is fully equipped with everything you should need including a gas hob, sink, cooking utensils, pots, pans, crockery, cutlery and glassware. Each lodge has an allocated fridge based in the cabin and is equipped with a cold locker if you want to bring some cold blocks. Across from the kitchen area is a full size dining table great for a long lingering supper. Relaxing Our lodges are lit with solar lighting, at the heart of the lodge is our wood burning stove, surrounded by vintage leather chesterfields: it will keep the lodge warm in all weathers and is the perfect spot to finish the evening. Outside There is large raised deck area at the front of the lodge with stunning views across the coastal hills, where better to sit with a glass of wine and a book on a summer afternoon. Relax in the private wood fired hot tub.  outside is a picnic table, firepit and BBQ for campfire cooking or as evening settles sitting by a crackling log fire whilst gazing at the stars across the immense West Wales night sky. Questions and FAQs What else should I bring along? Bring a picnic rug if you fancy a picnic in the wild-flower meadow or by the stream. A few extra torches are handythe lodges but there is no ambient lighting around the farm at night so a good torch is great for finding your way and making sure you don’t step on a frog in your flip flops. A couple of extra boxes of matches, someone always misplaces the lighters we provide and you don’t want to be flameless as night draws in.Evenings are longer without the distraction of TV and internet so some games to play as a family are always a good idea and bring along your favourite books to read by lamplight. Food (obviously) and maybe some essential store items, salt, pepper, butter, oil if you are going in for some proper camp cooking, and maybe marshmallows for toasting on the fire. But don’t go overboard the nearest supermarket is only 10mins away. Will I be warm enough ? Our lodges are very luxurious, weatherproof, windproof and equipped with thick warm duvets and but its still made of wood and canvas, so if you’re prone to feeling the cold pyjamas are good for bedtime and its worth packing a wellies, a coat and a few jumpers just in case the British summer weather isn’t so summery, layering is key. Can I bring my dog? Dogs are always welcome by arrangement at Sloeberry Farm, all we ask is you keep them on a short lead at all times and clean up all dog mess straight away so another guest doesn’t stand in it. Are the showers hot and what about the loos?A hot shower is crucial after a day out on the beach, all of our showers supply a limitless amount of hot water (no putting 50p in a meter which runs out just when you have got your shampoo in) and all of our toilets are modern flushing variety. Can I have a campfire? In our opinion campfires are a key part of camping. Not only do they offer warmth, and an atmospheric backdrop to an evening but they also provide plenty of heat for cooking. Each lodge has its own fire pit with access to a good supply of firewood which you can buy daily on site. Be it baking potatoes, toasting marshmallows or cooking a cowboy chilli, as the stars start to twinkle, the camp fire becomes the centrepiece of your evening.  Only logs provided by or purchased at Sloeberry Farm can be used on the campfires, wood burners and hot tubs. Is there electricity to power my hairdryer, straighteners etc?Sloeberry Farm is a mains electricity free experience so as well as having slightly frizzy hair, there’s no internet, TV, email or games consoles to be distracted by.

Coastal glamping at Sloeberry Farm, recently awarded Gold Glamping the highest possible by VisitWales as part of the Welsh Government Quality Assured Glamping Scheme. The farm is located close to Aberporth Beach near Cardigan in West Wales. The farm was founded in the early 1800s making use of the natural spring to power a mill and dairy. It sits in a sheltered spot with stunning views across the countryside and is a short drive to many local sandy beaches and coves. Sloeberry Farm Lodges and Cabins all with private facilities are located in 13 acres of pasture & woods, only 3 miles from the fishing village and stunning beaches of Aberporth and a short drive from the historic town of Cardigan. There is an EV charger onsite As we only have four lodges and in a different meadow a couple of cabins , peace, quiet and privacy have always been an integral part of a stay here at Sloeberry Farm. The canvas lodges sleep up to six people (max 3 adults) in a king bed, bunk beds, and a king-size cabin bed (note Owl Lodge sleeps up to eight (max 3 adults) in a king bed, king cabin bed and 4 single beds on a mezzanine floor). They're equipped with leather sofas, wood burners, dining tables and fully equipped kitchens. Each has a private shower room and en-suite washroom with basin and flushing toilet. Outside, each lodge has a picnic table, a private wood-fired hot tub, a firepit and a separate BBQ. Cabins are equipped with wood burners, dining tables and fully equipped kitchens, with a BBQ/firepit, picnic table and private wood fired hot tub outside . In the bedroom, there is a king-sized bed and in a separate nook bunk beds to comfortably sleep a family of four. Behind each cabin there are huts created by a local craftsman housing a private toilet and hot showers. Sloeberry Farm is perfect for families and couples looking for a quiet relaxing break. Tents, campervans, caravans, large groups, stags and hens cannot be accommodated. If you can't find the dates you are looking for please check SloeberryFarm.com or contact us.
Nearby attractions

Lonely Planet recently voted Cardigan Bay "the best place to be in the world right now" and it certainly fits the bill with it's mix of fantastic beaches and coastal villages, yet still retaining a relatively uncrowded feel, especially out of peak season. Cliff walks on the coastal path, sandy bays and National Trust-owned beaches are the highlights. By car, the town of Cardigan is not far away, formed around a Norman castle which is open to the public and boasts a great café and frequent outdoor events. Nearby Cilgerran Castle (01239 621339) still welcomes visitors – its two massive drum towers dominate the surroundings. North, picture perfect New Quay has a cobbled stone harbour – with plenty of cafés and fantastic chippies, it's a great place to enjoy the views and spot the Cardigan Bay dolphins.

Food and drink

The nearest pub, the Penllwyndu Inn (01239 682533), is an easy mile and a half walk away – don’t be put off by the hangman's noose sign! There are plenty of other places to eat and drink within within easy striking distance but the nearest are either in Cardigan (five miles) or Aberporth (three miles). The former has plenty of choice, plus a supermarket for supplies, while the latter is slightly smaller but has a great fish and chip shop (01239 811003) next door to The Ship Inn (01239 810822), both of which have excellent views of the beach.
