Welcome to Fernlea. We would love to have you visit us, either on our 5 pitch campsite for motorhomes and caravans, or in 2025 to our new luxury glamping pod. Fernlea is our home in the heart of an agricultural plain called “The Carse of Gowrie,” which runs for 20 miles or so along the River Tay between Perth and Dundee. It’s a beautiful area that we hope you will love too. We are a short walk from the village of Errol, with access to lovely walks along the Tay. We are adjacent to the local bus route (just stick your arm out!), the Sustrans cycle route 77, plus only a mile or so from the A90 Perth to Dundee / Aberdeen road. We are perfect for both a short stopover and a longer break with a fascinating local area to explore. All pitches have hard standing, water on each pitch, grey waste disposal adjacent to the pitch, and a 10 or 16 amp electric supply with a chemical toilet waste tank with rinsing tap behind our garage. We are also within easy access to Fife and the southern area of the Highlands. Walkers and bird watchers will find many footpaths by the River Tay and can climb the local hills to see buzzards, hawks, ducks, and migrating geese throughout the seasons. Any visitors requiring repairs or accessories for their van will find the large Perthshire Caravan dealership nearby. Every Sunday, one of Scotland’s largest car boot sales and markets is held less than a mile away. Glamping pods in a large garden alongside the river Roy A 10-minute drive from Loch Lochy and 20 minutes from Fort William Seating in the garden and kitchen and ensuites provided Right on the side of the river Roy, the Highland and Transylvania Glamping Pods is a properly cosy base in the Scottish Highlands. The large garden has a terrace, river views and a seating area, but perhaps the best bit is that it’s located a short drive from lochs, glens, rivers and long-distance trails. What might you get up to? Climbing, hill walking, mountain biking and water-based sports are all on the agenda in this area, but especially in Fort William (20 minutes’ drive) and Lochaber, which have been ascribed as a capital for outdoor adventures. Scotland’s highest mountain, Ben Nevis, is also 20 minutes’ drive away. Even closer is Loch Lochy (10 minutes’ drive), which has access to part of the 79-mile Great Glen Way (around 10 minutes’ drive). From Fort William, start off on another long-distance trail, the West Highland Way, which stretches for 96 miles across the banks of Loch Lomond and ends in Milngavie. The pods here have been named after the places where the owners spent their childhood and continue to live. Feel free to stop off while travelling to or from the Isle of Skye (two hours and 10 minutes) or stay for a good while… Fort William’s centre has a splendid selection of pubs, restaurants, shops and a bus and rail station. Plus, there are lots of links courses for golfers a day trip away, like the Royal Dornoch (two hours and 25 minutes). Both pods have a small double bed (a bit narrower than a standard double) with all bed linen provided. The kitchen areas are equipped with a fridge, microwave, kettle and toaster (crockery, cutlery and towels are handily provided). To keep things nice and tasty, the pods are also well insulated. The patio doors and the rear opening window are both double glazed and there are electric radiators to inject some extra heat into the kitchen and living area.

Weekend Trip to Fernlea - Campsite & Pod

Staying at Bruce’s house was an absolute pleasure! He was so incredibly helpful and kind and the pod is perfect. I would live there for the rest of my life if I could! The kitchen is great. The hot tub is beyond belief and so good that it’s almost intoxicating. When my boyfriend and I accidentally reset the Internet, Bruce was beyond kind and helpful. Next time I’m in this area I will for sure Be staying here again.

The pods were clean, comfortable, spacious and well equipped. Unfortunately the fly screen for our door was broken so it was a choice of being gnawed on by midges or being very hot- we chose the heat which was a bit uncomfortable but a fan had been provided which helped. The views were incredible of the loch and mountains and the walking and cycling just stunning. It's a little public with it being next to the main path but if you aren't looking for seclusion then it's fine and we found it vibrant and interesting watching the boats and people coming and going. The food in the cafe was excellent and we enjoyed the take away option, it does close fairly early so best to get there before 5:15pm. All in all it was a beautiful spot and very good accommodation and we had a brilliant time.

3 nights at Highland & Transylvania Glamp. Pod

The pod was very clean and organized. The hosts came in and tidied up and left clean towels just like a hotel. They also gave us a tour when we got there and explained how the shower and door lock works instead of us having to use trial and error. The pod has plenty of storage space under the bed and all of the appliances work. Definitely will stay there again. The space is okay for two people, but probably not three.

Where to go

Aberfoyle & Around

Aberfoyle is Queen Elizabeth Forest Park’s southern gateway, a village welcoming tourists since the 19th century when Sir Walter Scott’s poem “Lady of the Lake” made nearby Loch Katrine one of the UK’s most famous beauty spots. Stunning scenery beckons on the doorstep—think trail-laced, loch-bedaubed forest fanning north, west, and south, plus some of Scotland’s best ziplining. South of Aberfoyle, organised campsites offer riverside locations as launchpads for regional explorations.

Three Lochs Forest Drive

This classic introduction to the park’s lovely treescape runs through forest scenery, and is doable by car. The 7-mile route brushes Lochan Reoidhte, Loch Drunkie, and Loch Achray, around which cyclists and hikers can create tailor-made routes. The loch shores with their charming picnic areas make delightful wild camping—just procure permits if pitching between March and September. The drive starts on Duke’s Pass, two miles north of Aberfoyle.

Strathyre Forest & Braes of Balquhidder

Far-reaching Queen Elizabeth Forest Park encompasses several smaller (but by no means tiny) forests, including Strathyre Forest north of Callander. The forest intersects with the Balquhidder road, which forges west below the Braes of Balquhidder at Kingshouse. The whole area is incredible for outdoor adventures, and camping can be found around the forest-flanked River Balvag. Wild camping terrain switches from sheltered along Strathyre to increasingly rugged beyond Balquhidder. The long-distance Rob Roy Way runs through Strathyre, named for the famous outlaw who frequented this area.

Eastern Loch Lomond & Ben Lomond

Great Britain’s biggest freshwater lake, Loch Lomond marks the divide between lowland and highland Scotland to all passing on the main road north from Glasgow. While the western shoreline has the road, most facilities, and most crowds, the east is quieter. Accessed via a dead-end road from Drymen, 10 miles south of Aberfoyle, several organised campsites occupy this peaceful stretch, which forms the long-distance West Highland Way. There are hikes to Scotland’s southernmost Munro, Ben Lomond, too.
