Cleghorn Farm is a mixed farm just north east of the market town of Lanark. Comprised of 250 acres of fields and woodland and bounded to the south by Mouse Water, it is a beautiful spot to get away from it all without having to leave it all behind if you don't want to. The fields are grazed and cultivated but the woodlands are much as they were at the end of the last ice age with spectacular walks along Cleghorn Glen with the chance to see badgers, bats, deer and all manner of birds among the towering pine and beech trees.
The Mouse Water (pronounced moose) tumbles down along the edge of the farm and has some glorious pools for swimming, shallows for paddling and some spectacular water falls before it joins the River Clyde, all a gentle walk from the sites.

Very friendly staff. Easy to find. Great facilities. Lovely walks right at back of premises.
Only downside for me was the noise off other campers. People turning up and setting stuff up after 10 pm. Also loud group of lads. But I’m use to wild camping so maybe noise would be acceptable for most.

This place was spectacular and beautiful! It had the makings for a good relaxing holiday! A little fire place, a kettle, and a little pod outside.

We loved the Yurt at Susan's land. It was a very peaceful place, beautifully looked after and surrounded by nature. We particularly enjoyed the magical atmosphere of the riverbank woodlands and wild swimming. We had the tremendous luck of having fantastic weather and even witnessed the Northern Lights from there. It was an amazing couple of days! We'll be back for sure. Lovely hosts.

This cabin is very cute. Excellent value. Great views, lovely bedding. Simple but really thoughtfully done. Highly recommend. Small wood burning stove inside and fire outside. Very simply equipped ( nice) but everything you need. Nice compost toilet.Outdoor sink with water supply. Great decking around cabin.We were lucky enough to have sunshine and watched sun go down. We threw some pork chops and tomatoes on the outside fire ( bought from excellent farm shop at the nearby Tenby service station ) and boiled potatoes and asparagus on the wood burning stove inside and had delicious meal with bottle of wine. Had place all to ourselves. What’s not to want. Our dog loved it too ! Will return. Perfect to break journey if you travelling up further north Scotland as we were, or just relax for a few days.

omg where do I start. they have thought of everything. the lovely walk through the fairy light enchanted wood over the bridge which is over a stream into wonderland. past the amazing wood burning stove and the bar with a fire pit. onto the deck into the airstream loads of little goodies left a personal message. the wood burner in the aitstream. everywhere you looked you saw the little touches that make this absolutely the best air bnb type place we've stayed . absolutely recommend the host is simply lovely if you go see if you spot the peeing dwarf. brilliant. thank you so much for an amazing time x

Excellent, quirky accommodation with everything you would need inside and out. Loved all the extra wee touches in the lodge. Extremely clean. Great outdoor space - hot tub, bbq, fire pit and seat swing were used well and lovely way to wind down, relax and appreciate the outdoor. Hosts were very welcoming and friendly.

When to go
The best time to visit the Clyde Valley Woodlands National Nature Reserve is from May to October. Spring sees the area carpeted with woodland flowers, such as bluebells and primrose, and the air filled with the song of birds including wood warblers and long-tailed tits. In summer you may see great spotted woodpeckers, tawny owls, badgers and roe deer. Autumn sees the leaves on the trees turn to beautiful shades of orange, yellow and red.
Know before you go
- The main visitor facilities are at Chatelherault and the Falls of Clyde.
- Most trails are wide and well paved but can get muddy after rain. All paths have steps and steep gradients.
- The reserve is walking distance from Lanark town centre, which is connected to Glasgow by train.
- Be sure to follow Scottish Outdoor Access Code while visiting the reserve.
