Cleghorn Farm is a mixed farm just north east of the market town of Lanark. Comprised of 250 acres of fields and woodland and bounded to the south by Mouse Water, it is a beautiful spot to get away from it all without having to leave it all behind if you don't want to. The fields are grazed and cultivated but the woodlands are much as they were at the end of the last ice age with spectacular walks along Cleghorn Glen with the chance to see badgers, bats, deer and all manner of birds among the towering pine and beech trees.
The Mouse Water (pronounced moose) tumbles down along the edge of the farm and has some glorious pools for swimming, shallows for paddling and some spectacular water falls before it joins the River Clyde.

Loch Lomond Sunset Pod lies just to the west of Croftamie Village and is only a couple of miles south of Drymen. The Sunset Pod is within a National Scenic Area and The Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park, Scotland’s first National Park. It is surrounded by rolling Stirlingshire countryside and hills and is approached via its long private, and gated, drive off a quiet country road.
When you reach the pod, on the left side of the front door there is a key safe box (details will be sent on your booking) for self-check-in, just put the code in to access the keys to the pod and enjoy your stay admiring amazing mountains views. And if you are lucky, a deer may pay you a surprising visit.
If you are a smoker, we kindly ask you to only smoke outside of the glamping pod within the gazebo area, where an ashtray is provided.

Our Huts are located within the Moss Wood area of Bute Forest - a mixed birch and alder wood that extends up the hillside to the west of the A886 that connects the Rhubodach Ferry to Port Bannatyne and Rothesay.
Moss Wood has a range of facilities. Park on the shore-side where the coast can be enjoyed or at the main entrance, and take a walk up through Moss Wood along the Poetry Trail. A steep walk in places, the Poetry Trail is a loop punctuated with places to stop and read, to stop and think. Read nature poetry from throughout the ages, stop at the Blether Stane, or taking the spur to the Viewing Point back south across the Kyles.
Moss Wood connects to the West Island Way – take the Poetry Trail and the spur to the Viewing Point – and then take the Stag’s Trod further up (steeply) till you reach the West Island Way. From there, head south towards Port Bannatyne or north along the boundary of the Community Forest. From the viewing point, you can also explore interesting heritage features such as the old WW2 bunker, kayak shelter, Balnakailly settlement, and the SSSI oak woodland.

A beautiful, wild and remote setting on the West Coast of Scotland. Peace and quiet! A useful stopover on the way to the Skye ferry. Cars/bikes and wellington boots are recommended. Eggs from our free range hens are available to buy. It is a drive to reach the small local shops/pubs. Walks to beaches and woods. We look forward to welcoming you.
The vintage caravan is a cosy, quiet, self-contained space positioned close by our house. It is surrounded by honeysuckle and clematis. Through the windows you can glimpse mountains and trees. There’s a small double bedroom and another small bedroom that can be arranged either with a generous single or small twin beds that are ideal for young children. The living area has couches and a dining table. The kitchenette has all the basics, fridge, microwave and a gas cooker. The bathroom has a shower, washbasin and toilet.
This self-catering accommodation has its own private lockable entrance. Guests have access to the caravan, garden, and driveway.
Nearest shops/pubs are a 20-30min DRIVE away - it's a good idea to bring everything you need as the road is long and you may not feel like going out again!
Please let me know in advance if you require the small twin beds made up.
From the last week of May through to early September it is midge season in the Scottish Highlands, so be prepared to encounter these tiny biting flies - however, a light breeze and a stick of citronella incense is usually enough to disperse them! On still nights I strongly recommend that you keep the windows closed, otherwise you may find clouds of midges invade your space. There is a cooling fan to make warm evenings more comfortable.
A haven for creatives! During April and October we host artists’ residencies specially for socially engaged practitioners who would benefit from some time to rest and reconnect with nature. When you book via Hipcamp, a small community fee is added to your daily booking charge and this goes to support these residencies by helping to pay for logs for the wood stove during the artists' visits.

Weekend Trip to Cleghorn Farm
The beautiful cabin is in a lovely quiet private space. There are nice views across to the hills particularly when sat by the firepit. Alex and Lauren made us feel very welcome.

The view you wake up to is breathtaking! The pods themselves are immaculate and stocked with everything you need. You have your own private bathroom which is heated and again immaculately clean. Lovely and quiet!

The place is really nice. Our tent was prepared for four and we sleep there really well. Views on morning were amazing. And comon places were really good when weather made not possible to be outside.

Beautiful views up the Loch. Quite a steep climb but easily achievable. Fire pit, bbq and seating area ideal. Even the compostable toilet had a great view!

We loved the cabin. Spacious and we slept very well. The best shower ever! The campsite has wonderful views and is well maintained. We used the bbq and fire pit. The barn is well equipped for cooking and relaxing. Angus is a wonderful host. Definitely would return to Muiredge when in Scotland!

Weekend Trip to Organic Welltree
We had a fantastic stay at Organic Welltree in the Bramble yurt. Lovely people, lovely setting and very nice accommodation. If you’re looking for a weekend escape this is a great, affordable option. We’ll definitely visit again.

Runach Arainn is even more lovely in person than in the photos. Great location for a peaceful and relaxing stay on Arann. The yurts are comfortable, the kitchen/fire-pit etc are well-equipped and the orchard setting is beautiful. It's just a short walk to the beach or to the Lagg Inn for dinner. Highly recommend.

I loved my 4 night break in the Bramble Yurt. The yurt was clean and cosy. I did have the stove burner on due to the weather being so good. The bathroom shed was clean and fresh. The fridge was a god send considering the temperature reach a high of 27 degrees. I had a relaxing time sitting in the fresh air watching the wild life and the world go by. I would highly recommend Organic Welltree. I shall definitely go back. I wish to thanks them for my time at Kirkland.

2 nights at The Charcoal Huts - Isle of Bute
The Charcoal Huts were so magical. We stayed in Birch and it had amazing views, was quite private and had everything we needed - including things we forgot.
It was beautiful and cosy inside and the fire kept us so warm. I really loved this place.

4 nights at St Conan's Escape
St. Conan's Escape was lovely- the perfect place to stay during our venture to western Scotland. The accommodations were perfect, the view was excellent, and the host was very friendly and helpful. I will definitely be looking up this cute little Basecamp for our next adventure in Scotland! Thank you!

1 night at West Highland Way Hotel & Campsite
Very friendly staff. Easy to find. Great facilities. Lovely walks right at back of premises.
Only downside for me was the noise off other campers. People turning up and setting stuff up after 10 pm. Also loud group of lads. But I’m use to wild camping so maybe noise would be acceptable for most.

2 nights at Pirnie Lodge Farm
From the minute we arrived Anne was welcoming and gave us all the information to do with the lodge, the lodge itself was spotless and felt homely from the minute we walked in. Anne also left a welcome pack which was an added bonus, the hot tub was ready on arrival and Anne also shown us how to use this before leaving
Anne gave us recommendations on places to visit and where we could go for days out, we were recommended the milk barn which was delicious, the ice cream and milkshakes were perfect!
We would also recommend going there!

Where to go
Around Oban
If you want to experience a rural setting while staying close to town and the shops, pubs and restaurants, Oban Caravan and Camping Park is a great choice. The neat park has sea views from its camping and touring pitches, and also offers camping pods for those who seek a glamping-style experience. Three miles south of the harbor, it’s a convenient location for heading off on ferry trips to the Isles.
Benderloch
Nine miles north of Oban, on the road to Ballachulish, the little village of Benderloch is close to both Loch Creran and Loch Etive and a good base for watersports such as canoeing, kayaking and fishing. A small and friendly site, Highfield Holidays has hardstanding pitches for touring caravans and motorhomes and grass camping tent pitches, as well as a handful of fully-equipped glamping pods and safari tents with private hot tubs.
Appin
Twenty-five minutes north of Oban, the peaceful Appin peninsula is home to one of Scotland’s most romantic sights, the ruined Castle Stalker perched on a tiny island. The area is popular with cyclists, as well as boaters and windsurfers, and is the departure point for ferries to the island of Lismore. At the foot of the mountains Ben Churlainn and Ben Sgulaird, Creagan Station Tourers offers excellent views from its spacious handstanding touring pitches. Five minutes south, Oban Camping and Caravanning Club Site also offers grass pitches for tents.
When to go
For enjoying long, sunny days in the great outdoors, visiting in spring and summer is best. However Oban gets very busy with holidaymakers making their way to the islands in July and August. September is a good alternative for avoiding the biggest crowds while still being able to enjoy the outdoors. November’s Oban Winter Festival is worth braving the cold.
Know before you go
- Some sites in the area are seasonal: check opening dates before traveling.
- There are some good spots for wild camping along the coast. If choosing to camp wild, follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code.
- Local bus services can get you around most campsites and places of interest in the area.
- If traveling between Oban and Glasgow/Edinburgh by bus in summer, it’s a good idea to book in advance.
