St. Conan's Escape was such a beautiful area to disappear into! The property manager, Hazel, did such a phenomenal job of preparing the space--it was so beautifully-decorated and clearly well-maintained that I could see this as the perfect experience for other solo travelers or couples looking for a beautiful location to sink into.
I found St. Conan's Escape when looking for a place to go off-grid for a couple of days in the midst of traveling, and it had everything I needed--all of the amenities including plenty of cookware, a bathroom and extremely comfortable bed, so that I could focus on my writing projects. What a beautiful scenery it's in, too! I woke up to a beautiful sunrise over the mountains in the distance and I was so sad to leave such a majestic view. I would absolutely return and recommend it to anyone looking for a new experience!

The view you wake up to is breathtaking! The pods themselves are immaculate and stocked with everything you need. You have your own private bathroom which is heated and again immaculately clean. Lovely and quiet!

Absolutely stunning location - you worry when you arrive as it’s a really popular tourist attraction but the car park empties out and it’s very peaceful. Nice walk along the loch side or a boat ride on the loch plus good cafe

The pods were clean, comfortable, spacious and well equipped. Unfortunately the fly screen for our door was broken so it was a choice of being gnawed on by midges or being very hot- we chose the heat which was a bit uncomfortable but a fan had been provided which helped. The views were incredible of the loch and mountains and the walking and cycling just stunning. It's a little public with it being next to the main path but if you aren't looking for seclusion then it's fine and we found it vibrant and interesting watching the boats and people coming and going. The food in the cafe was excellent and we enjoyed the take away option, it does close fairly early so best to get there before 5:15pm. All in all it was a beautiful spot and very good accommodation and we had a brilliant time.

When to go
June through October is the busiest season in Fort William and the surrounding Highland region, which can mean crowded trails and booked-up sites. If you want to avoid the crowds, spring is a good time to visit as the landscape will be lush and the temperature pleasantly cool enough for tackling the summit (but it will likely be freezing at the top). You can climb Ben Nevis year-round, but only very experienced climbers should attempt an ascent in the winter.
Know before you go
- Wet conditions are inevitable at some point during a climb up Ben Nevis, so wear waterproof trousers, as well as a good waterproof coat, and proper walking boots that can handle the rocky paths.
- Be sure to bring plenty of water and high-energy snacks, as well as a map and compass.
- Whether hiking to the top or exploring the base, be sure to follow the Scottish Outdoor Access Code while visiting.
