Point Porphyry Light Station is managed by Canadian Lighthouses of Lake Superior. Check out the lighthouse, mini-museum and art gallery. Stay overnight in our 5-person bell tents or bring your own tent and camp at our site that includes a fire pit, outhouses, sauna, and trails. The island is quite close to Sleeping Giant Provincial Park and could be a great side trip for your summer holiday! You'll love the charming white and red historic buildings, engaging tours and workshops, and the volcanic black sand beaches (just like Hawai'i). This place is a MUST see! Porphyry Island is accessible only by boat. Regular shuttles from Silver Islet are offered by Archie's Fishing Charters and Lighthouse Tours on Thursdays and Sundays departing at 9:00 am and 11:00 am and returning at 2:30 pm and 3:30 pm (Reservations must be made in advance at https://clls.ca). NOTE: if you are taking the regular charter service, your stay at Porphyry Island must be 3 nights from Thursday to Sunday or 4 nights from Sunday to Thursday. Shorter stays will require arranging private charter services (see below). If you don't have your own boat, private charter trips can be booked for groups from Silver Islet with Archie's Fishing Charters and Lighthouse Tours (visit https://archiescharters.com to make a reservation) or from Thunder Bay with Sail Superior (visit https://sailsuperior.com/ to make a reservation). This year we are offering a "Boathouse Folk School" series of creative workshops throughout the summer hosted by our artists in residence and other local artisans. Check out our website for details and to register for workshops as an add-on to your visit. www.clls.ca
