Within a 30-minute drive from the Elwha.
Come enjoy the serenity of The Rustic Retreat. Located on 50+ private wooded acres, over a mile off the highway our tent sites will give you the peace and quiet you are looking for. The night sky is clear and perfect for star gazing. This place truly is a piece of heaven. As of right now we have large and small tent sites. There are ponds to look at and eventually they will be stocked with fish. The campsites are not completely flat and may have a few small holes so please be careful and watch your step. A lot of this property has been left natural for years and we are trying to keep it as natural as possible. We do suggest sleeping on an air mattress or camping pad for your comfort. We are just starting out so this place will get better and better as time goes on. We at The Rustic Retreat value your privacy and we try not to interact with campers unless you request. The Peninsula Northwest has some amazing activities including hiking, biking, fishing, crabbing, shrimping, whale watching, beach combing, Kayaking, and so much more. The Rustic Retreat is about 20 minutes from downtown Port Angeles and the Victoria Ferry and about 30 minutes from Lake Crescent. It is the perfect place to stay in between everything. Updates for this season: We have added, moved, and changed the name of some of the campsites, so if you are a returning camper double check the campsite number before booking. One change is, Former campsite 1 (the pond campsite) has been changed to a communal fire pit with log rounds for sitting. This is the only firepit that will be allowed on the premises due to fire danger. The firepit can be used by all campers until the Clallam County burn ban comes into affect. During the burn ban, the firepit will be closed off. We have also added more campsites, walking trails, more lighting and parking. We have not been able to get fish in the ponds yet, however some wild ducks stop by now and again to say hi. The hiking trail head is down the dirt road, west of the porta potty, it is roughly 316 yards to the trail head. Walking and biking is allowed. Trail is very natural so it is uneven, please be careful.

Spot 3 (Formally Spot 4) is located a short walk from your parking spot. There is a small stairway to the site. The size of this site is 40x67 and is one of our biggest sites. It can easily hold 2-3 tents. This is a walk in camping spot with parking in front of the pond. The Porta Potty, Communal Fire Pit and Information Board is within a short walking distance. Each site has a hand build picnic table. Wood Fires are not allowed at the campsite, only at the communal fire pit near the pond.

This site has fresh dirt and clover/grass seed waiting to grow, so later in the year it will be a lot softer. The site is under the trees and primary in the shade. This is a private campsite, but still close to the fire pit, information board and porta potty. This is a walk in camping spot with parking in front of the pond. The Porta Potty, Communal Fire Pit and Information Board is within a short walking distance.

Spot 8 is one of our new sites added to the campground this year. This site is 21x35. This site has fresh dirt and clover/grass seed waiting to grow, so later in the year it will be a lot softer. The site is under the trees and primary in the shade. This is a very private campsite but is around 115 yards to the Porta Potty, Communal Fire Pit and Information Board. Parking is right in front of the entrance, with a small hill to climb up. The parking spot is not very big, we had to squeeze it in. Each site has a hand build picnic table. Wood Fires are not allowed at the campsite, only at the communal fire pit near the pond.

Spot 2 is another new site. The size of this site is 40x47 and the groundcover consists of grass with some dirt and clover/grass seed. This site is bigger than Spot 1, but can been seen by Spot 3 through a blocked off trail we use for maintenance. You could put a tent in front of the trail to get full privacy. This is a semi private campsite, but still close to the fire pit, information board and porta potty. Parking is at the site, you can back right up to the site entry. This site is for tents or campervans/cars. Each site has a hand build picnic table. Wood Fires are not allowed at the campsite, only at the communal fire pit near the pond.

Spot 9 is one of my favorite new sites added to the campground this year. The site is very large at 50x57 and has fresh dirt and clover/grass seed waiting to grow, so later in the year it will be a lot softer. The site has mostly tree cover so you will get a lot of shade. This is a semi private campsite, but far from the fire pit, information board and porta potty (about 303 yards). This site is close to the hiking trails. Parking is at the site, you can back right up to the site entry. This site is for tents or campervans/cars. Each site has a hand build picnic table. Wood Fires are not allowed at the campsite, only at the communal fire pit near the pond.

Spot 10 is one of our new sites added to the campground this year. The site is 32x32 and is primarily grass, it is a little uneven and has a slight slope, so be careful.. The site has mostly tree cover so you will get a lot of shade. This is a semi private campsite, but far from the fire pit, information board and porta potty (about 316 yards). This site is close to the hiking trails. Parking is at the site, you can back right up to the site entry. This site is for tents or campervans/cars. Each site has a hand build picnic table. Wood Fires are not allowed at the campsite, only at the communal fire pit near the pond. This site has a whole to the west blocked by old logs and reflectors so it might not be the best site for small children.

Campimg location is very near Olymic NP and main road, but far enough to have very wild vibe! Camping spot is very privete, because only spot 2 is next to it and on other side is bush and forest so it is excalant to enjoy in nature

The Rustic Retreat was a nice, secluded place to spend the night on our way from BC back to Portland. The sites are quite a ways (perhaps a quarter mile?) back in off the road on a good, gently sloped dirt woods road. Our Spot 4 campsite had a good level spot for our small tent. The outhouse was a new, clean, port-a-potty a 30 second walk from our site. One thing we really value is quiet. We expected background road noise, being so close to Port Angeles, but there was none. It was very, very, A+ grade quiet. There is no water available. We brought our own for coffee and washing which was fine. We had the place to ourselves on a Monday night. We didn't spend any time exploring the trails since we had a lot of driving to do the next day. Communication with our host was good. Overall, a very positive stay.

My weekend here was wonderful. Plenty of space between sites. Instructions were sent out ahead of time and it was very easy to drive to. All of the signage on the property was very easy to follow and labeled all the sites. Toilet was very clean and well maintained. I would definitely stay here again, I used it as a base camp to explore the Lake Crescent area only 20 minutes away.

This place is magical. Two larger sites good for camper vans , the rest are beautiful tent sites nestled in old growth forest I was here in the spring when the pond was alive with spring frogs. Bats and owls come out at night. I even saw an otter in the pond! I was shocked. They have created walking trails that meander through the woods. Check out the giant big leaf maple and campsite number three.A great gateway to the Olympic national Park and Port Angeles. I plan on many return trips. The host is accommodating and responsive.

Adorable! Well kept! Clear signage and spacious lots. The dirt road was easy to navigate in my Highlander and is a quick drive to Port Angeles. But PACK BUG SPRAY! Holy mosquitos batman!

Great spot near the Port Angeles area Olympic NP entrances! This spot was SO quiet (I heard some different owls calling at night) and shaded. The spot is generally flat, shaded, and secluded, and the picnic table was a nice touch. Cell signal also if you need it! About a 3-4 minute amble up the path to the porta-potty. I'd say this spot is great for an SUV, campervan, or 5th wheel, but might be a bit difficult for an RV to navigate. No problems for me! The directions and communication were fantastic and overall a great stay.

Cozy secluded camping!

This was my first time at the Rustic Retreat and using Hipcamp - it was an amazing experience! Spot 8 was great, not too far from the very well maintained and stocked portable toilet but nice and secluded from other campers. The road was easy to drive on in our Subaru Outback. Our pals who had never camped before also had a great time, definitely suitable and comfortable for tent newbies. The frogs were so great to fall asleep to and we loved all the details at the informational sign about the property's history and wildlife. The host was also super helpful and communicative. We didn't get to enjoy the fire pit due to the burn ban, but the area looked nice and cozy. The trails were perfect for an evening stroll. Everything was well laid out and marked with lights for helpful navigation and was thoughtfully set up. Remember to pack your water and bug spray (but you're still pretty close to town if you forget anything!), and hope you also have an amazing time! It was a great home base for visiting the Olympics <3

The Rustic Retreat was exactly as we had expected. The host was friendly and helpful via messaging, the directions to get there were clear and easy to follow, and the campsite was in good condition upon our arrival. The only issue we ran into was that the site did not have a fully flat space for a tent, so we had to set up on a slight decline. The only request I would make for this space would be to have some sort of running water/spigot for folks to access, as there is no source of potable water nearby.

Mosquitos are OUT so be prepared. Stinging nettle is also present!! Cute spot! Luckily we brought a screened canopy and that helped immensely. Private from other sites (besides spot 10) but had some foot traffic as people went to check out the hiking trails. Very little noise pollution from the road or the occasional resident driving by. We did wish the spot was a bit more even. But overall, a great homebase to go exploring from Port Angeles to Cape Flattery.

The tent spots were nice and private. The table was cool and the access was excellent. It is a younger forest, so lots of mosquitoes. Not meant to be a criticism or negative feedback. Just a heads up to be prepared with netting or repellant. Thank you for the wonderful stay!

Really lovely, well maintained property and each site has good privacy. We got spoiled and had the whole place to ourselves during the week! If you are van camping, sites 1 & 2 were perfect for our 159” extended promaster!

Ended up extending our stay TWICE because we just couldn’t get enough of this place! It was the perfect mid way point between downtown port Angeles and all that the Olympics have to offer. The location is also off the main road so it’s very private and you only have the sounds of nature. We really enjoyed the beautiful hiking trails on the property and the porta potty was the cleanest I’ve ever seen. The hosts were always very responsive and kind… they even came to our rescue when we got our van stuck in some loose dirt!

While the name says Rustic, it really is primitive. No water and only a port a potty very far away. The road to the camp site is very bumpy and rocky. If you want to have no one near your and don’t care for water, bathrooms or a decent road than maybe this is the place for you. Not to mention the parking was so hard. I was scared I would ruin my car between the road and squeezing in the camp site. No way 20 people could fit. No way to do a campfire was a big downer. There were lots of mosquitoes so bug spray is necessary. I will never go back.

Spot 10 in the russet retreat was great. It was a little difficult to get into with a camper van but once we there it was quiet and peaceful. We used the Porta-Potty and it was very clean and well kept.

Surfing retreat

My boys and I stayed here for a recent surfing trip and had an amazing time. We felt kind of spoiled because we were the only one there. It was beautiful! Loved the frogs and birds! Slept great! Enjoyed the fire pit! Loved the sun and the maple tree in site 3. Site 8 is super private with another awesome maple if you don’t mind the tree canopy over head. 9 is beautiful too! Loved the solar lights and the clear signage! Thanks so much!

Amazing spot! We stayed for a week so we could explore the NP and Port Angeles. The location is perfect! We also loved all that the hosts have put into this property. The spots have their own privacy, and each night we were lulled to sleep to the sounds of frogs and owls. Spot 1 & 2 are great for vans or campers. The other sites are more geared towards tent campers.

The title says it all. This is a beautiful property, the camp spots were well thought out. If you are a tent camper, there may be a few that are a little less private than others so do your research. We were serenaded by frogs each night, the bats came out to play, and there was even an otter in the pond! Who knew otters hung out in ponds. I didn’t. And as if that was not enough, I had to stay an extra night because of a small issue I was having with my vehicle and John stopped by and fixed that issue for me! Beautiful surroundings, accommodating hosts AND mechanical health when you need it-who could ask for more. Besides the fact that it is convenient to beautiful Port Angeles and great trails. Definitely one of my favorite hip camps today.. thanks John and Casie!

We had a great time camping on site 4. It was a very large site, comfortably holds 3 tents and 2 canopies. Not easily accessible for those with mobility issues but we loved our privacy. Lots of mosquitoes during our time camping (late August) so bring bug repellent.

I absolutely loved the tucked away and quietness of this retreat! Free of noise and light pollution giving you the most serene experience! I tent camped with my two pups and was highly satisfied with my choice at this property. Easy directions and well marked signs going into the property as well as at each campsite. The solar light made it easy to find my spot with no problem as I arrived later into the evening. The port a potty was exceptionally clean and close. The host is readily available if needed and quick to ensure you have the best experience possible! Just a couple of miles down the road is a general store for all your snack and beverage needs. 20 minutes away is the bigger city for additional needs. The entrance to Olympic National Park was a short drive away as well. There’s a great breakfast and lunch spot called The BlackBerry Cafe in a town named Joyce which is about 10 miles away. I ended up wanting an extra day and the host was happy to accommodate me by giving me SPOT 3 right in front of the pond for my few days there. I only have two downsides to SPOT 3. Although the port a potty is close, I found the slamming of the door all times of the night to be frustrating. Additionally, next to SPOT 3 is parking for the adjacent campsites making it noisy for those arriving late and getting into their cars. It’s not as private as the other sites but has plenty of room to car or tent camp. Bring your bug spray! I most definitely will stay here again!
