full Chuckwagon dinner at Cowboy Camp on Saturday night , see full menu below, and have also added Cowboy breakfast on Sunday mornings when campers are present, consisting of scrambled eggs with/or without spinach and cheese served with grilled whole wheat toast, large fluffy pancake, choice of bacon or sausage patty, glass of orange juice and bottomless cup of coffee, ($15 per person). Allowances are made for food allergies, preferences and requests. Breakfast can be ordered the night before. Why cook and wash dishes when you don't have to? Just relax and enjoy the camping experience. CAMPSITES Here on our property, you can choose from simple walk in campsites with no special amenities, to a full campsite with picnic table, fire ring, and space for tent or trailer, up to a full size camper trailer parking area. We also have the lovely Cowboy wall tent with electricity and extra plugs for charging devices, a small electric heater, larger dorm style refrigerator, Queen size bed and all the bedding, additional oversized twin bed with bedding, 2 lamps, love seat reclining sofa and side table, Bistro style table and two chairs, 2 burner hotplate with coffee and tea, plates, cups and silverware, We provide 5 gallon containers of natural snowfall derived city water at your site. The wall tent has a separate porta potty with handwashing station. A larger portapotty is located in the center of the field for easy access from all other campsites. propane shower and shower room up and running. ACTIVITIES Other activities include local trails for hiking and biking, close proximity to Port Townsend, town beach and waterfront and a short drive to the Olympic National forest. FOOD This year, due to positive feedback, we are increasing our offering of a full course Chuckwagon dinner, two person minimum, paid for when you book your campsite. You can select from smoked pulled pork, BBQ chicken, Smoked ribs or the vegetarian selection, baked spaghetti squash stuffed with a blend of marinara, roasted zucchini, yellow squash and bell peppers, topped with parmesan cheese. Sides served with the dinner include roasted corn on the cob ( in season), potato salad, homemade Horseshoe beans, corn bread and blackberry cobbler . You provide the beverage. Guests meander over to the cook tent at about 6 pm and enjoy dinner seated around tables and chairs complete with plates, cups and silverware. Dinner is served by reservation only on Saturday nights. Dinner is $30.00 per person. 24 hour advance notice required so your food is always fresh. Breakfast ( described in intro above, is $15 per person) THE PROPERTY Just what is Cowboy Camp, you might ask. The traditional definition refers to sleeping outside under the stars with only a bedroll, a fire and the night sky for companions. But if you are a fan of the western genre and lifestyle, you might also know it as a place to go to hang out with like minded folks and experience the Cowboy lifestyle. This includes all people, men and women alike, as the term "Cowboy" is largely generic and not gender oriented. A taste of that lifestyle is what we are offering here at our Cowboy Camp. HORSES It wouldn't be Cowboy Camp without horses and they are definitely present. They can be heard whinnying at mealtimes and throughout the day as they keep in touch with each other. They are generally quiet at night. Horses are not allowed in camping areas when campers are present. No farm would be complete without chickens and ours is no exception. A few hens can generally be seen wandering around the barn searching for bugs, We do not have a rooster, so guests can sleep peacefully. We are offering camping sites ranging from simple tent sites with fire ring, picnic table and soft sandy tent sites to small cabin type tents with beds and electricity. As part of your cowboy camp experience you can sign up for a horsemanship lesson involving handling and grooming horses and time spent working with the horse in the round pen. (There is no actual riding such as a trail ride offered at this time, we are working on that). You can also sign up for a roping lesson. Learn to throw a loop and catch "Little blue", our roping dummy steer head. HIKES AND BIKES We also have games of horseshoes ( with real horseshoes) and corn hole boards. You can take a hike around the property on our trail through mature Douglas fir and majestic Western cedar forest. A 1/4 mile walk down our quiet country gravel road will take you to the 80 acre Jefferson County Land trust forest with several beautiful trails meandering through mature uncut forest. These trails are suitable for hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding. That forest further connects to the Cappy's trail system, a network of several miles of trails that will wind around and eventually lead into Port Townsend itself if you choose to venture into town. Or you can choose to travel via mountain bike or foot approximately one mile down the road to the DNR forest property that will lead you through more gorgeous wooded and open areas to access the Larry Scott trail, a 7.3 mile out and back firm surface multi-use trail that leads either out of town through the woods or to the north directly into Port Townsend along the scenic waterfront. Our beautiful piece of property is comprised of almost 11 acres situated on the northeast tip of the Olympic Peninsula just outside the quaint Victorian seaport town of Port Townsend. It lies approximately 4 miles from downtown with its many art galleries, restaurants, shops, boat harbor, farmer's market and the historic Rose theater. The farm itself is located within a section of old growth forest comprised of 100 year old Doug Firs, cedar trees and alder groves. There is an open pasture area in the center of the property, which is ringed completely by thick stands of forest, so it feels completely private. You have to look closely to see the neighboring two houses through the forest. The horses are excluded from camping areas during your visit, and will most likely be housed on neighboring property while guests are present. No need to worry about curious horses coming into your campsite to say hello. It is a wildlife paradise with frequent visits from local deer, bald eagles, ducks on the pond, owls nesting in the trees, and coyotes travelling through. The frog pond is alive all night with singing. If you are a light sleeper you might consider earplugs. We have created a walking trail through the forest around the land that is full of the sounds of life and birds. A pileated woodpecker makes its home in the back corner and two pairs of barred owls also inhabit the nearby Douglas firs. They can be heard at night calling out as they settle in for the evening. An important note for the walking explorer, please be aware that many areas of the farm are in their natural state. This means you might encounter prickly plants such as star thistle, nettles and tansy ragwort. We are happy to identify these for you if you are unfamiliar with them. Please be aware and dress in long pants and long sleeves while hiking. There are no poisonous snakes present in this region. We train horses here so there is a full size riding arena and training round pen. On any given day, you might see horses being trained and ridden. MORE ABOUT THE FOOD At the end of your day of adventures, you can opt to sign up ( when your site is booked) for a delicious feast at Cowboy Camp. Using old time traditional Dutch oven cooking techniques and slow smoking methods, meals are comprised of such items as slow cooked smoked pork shoulder or ribs, Dutch oven baked "Horseshoe Beans" ( a crowd favorite), fire roasted corn on the cob (in season) , homemade potato salad, green spinach salad, and of course dessert such as homemade blackberry cobbler or pineapple upside down cake. Vegetarian selections are also available upon request. ADVENTURES CLOSE BY Venturing out from the farm you can sign up to go on a whale watching excursion with Puget Sound Express out of Port Townsend. Seeing a whale is guaranteed or you get a free return trip. Also, the Olympic National Park is only a short one hour drive to the west and the view from Hurricane Ridge is not to be missed. Your Hosts: Property owners Karma and Rick come with a long extensive history of experience in the horse industry and western culture. Together they share over 100 years of experience with horses, both having ridden since young children. Karma loves sharing her knowledge of horses and horsemanship with others and has been a certified riding instructor for many years. Rick grew up with a horse and cattle background from a young age. As a young man he competed in the rodeo sports of bareback broncs, calf roping, bull riding and team roping. He then worked as a professional farrier, horse trainer and ranch employee in Texas. He learned the art of Texas BBQ cooking while living and working on Texas ranches. He loves to cook for others and enjoys sharing tales of the ranch life. You can choose to be as involved as you like during your visit. You can sit quietly in the forest and just enjoy peace and quiet if you so desire. We will not bother you. Our goal is simply to provide you with a beautiful place to relax, play, and enjoy during your visit. So come on out, set a spell, and enjoy a wonderful day, weekend, or week here at Cowboy Camp. Side note : Due to the presence of horses, chickens and various wildlife on the property, in addition to outdoor cooking activities, we do not allow outside dogs at this time. This site is the most accessible of all the sites. Parking is located right next to the camp road and the site is situated within 50 feet of your vehicle. The tent site lies beneath a lovely grove of three mature cedar trees overlooking the little valley where deer frequently visit. In addition to the picnic table and fire pit, we provide a 6 gallon jug of potable water at the site. . It is a short walk across the little grassy bowl to Cowboy camp for dinner and breakfast.

Fawn Crossing is a lovely tent site situated in the back corner of the field, under a large cedar tree. There is room for one family sized tent and parking is next to the site. The access road is dirt so it can get dusty. Good to know for allergy and asthma sufferers. Deer frequent this corner as they travel between field browsing and the deep forest just beyond the fence. It is a short walk across the field to the porta potty. There is a small rock campfire ring and we provide 6 gallons of potable water at the site ( refilled as needed).

Fawn Hideaway is a lovely smaller footprint campsite nestled into the woods on the backside of the farm. It sits adjacent to the dirt road/ walking trail passing through the mature cedar and Douglas Fir forest at the back of the property. It is quiet and peaceful. Parking for one car is within 50 feet of the site and additional parking for a second vehicle is available in the nearby open field. The porta potty is a short walk from the site.. We also provide 6 gallons of potable water at the site ( with refills readily available on request).

Buck Rub

Buck Rub is named because several young buck deer use the nearby trees for antler rubs. They visit almost daily when the site is quiet. There is a raised 12x12 foot sandy bed area nestled amidst several young alder trees. Two of the trees are suitable for a hammock but tree straps must be used. We have a hammock to rent if you like.  This site is also the largest as it is situated at the edge of the horse pasture. It includes a fire ring for campfires in season, a picnic table, trash can, portable potty and handwashing station. We deliver 5 gallon jugs of drinking water to your site for you. Drinking water can also be easily carried from the barn approximately 100 yards from the site. The site also overlooks a low lying dry pond area frequented by deer.  The picnic table, fire ring and bench sit next to and are sheltered by a large mature cedar tree that overlooks the site. Walking across the open pasture leads you into the forest trail on the backside of the property. The site is situated approximately 50 yards from Cowboy Camp proper with the Chuckwagon and horse corral areas.  Hiking boots or sturdy shoes are recommended as the ground is uneven, has tree branches, roots and rock trip hazards, and of course the expected occasional horse manure on the trails. In addition to the prepared site, there is plenty of room for additional tents for a larger family gathering. It is a short 1/4 mile walk to the nearby DNR trail system.4 mile easy bike ride to downtown Port Townsend Farmers Market, Whale watching trip, Ferry to Coupeville, shopping, and hospital services all within 5 miles.

Doe's Rest

Doe's rest is named for the two does that frequently visit to rest, graze and sleep here. They can be seen almost every day passing through on their rounds. The site itself is set back into the forest, amongst a grove of mature Douglas Fir and cedar trees, surrounded by a carpet of ferns and woody vegetation. The site is secluded and quiet, with night sounds of frogs, barred owls, coyotes and occasional barking dogs singing along. Do bring ear plugs if you are sensitive to night noises . The site looks out into the open pasture just beyond the fence. It is outfitted with picnic table, 7 gallons of potable water in a jug, fire ring, bench and flattened tent pad or trailer area. It is a back in site only. It is a short walk, maybe 30 yards, to the porta potty. Cowboy camp proper is a short walk through the woods on a well travelled path or along the main gravel entrance road. A lovely short walk through the forest lies adjacent to the site and loops around through the field to return. We hope you will enjoy your stay at Doe's rest.

Designed as a back in trailer site to accommodate travel trailers, this site sits at the edge of the small valley ( dry pond in summer) and overlooks an area favored by deer and wildlife. It comes with picnic table, fire ring ( available within burn ban regulations) and is only a short walk to the porta potty. The rear side of the site adjoins a section of forest which is adjacent to the hay shed and horse corrals. Common night sounds include horses nickering, local coyotes passing through, resident barred owls calling, frogs and the many sounds of night in the forest. We do have a rooster but he is locked up in the barn at night to try to muffle his calling to the hens. Allergens include hay, horses, dust and tree pollen, just in case.

The Cowboy Wall tent is a 12 ft wide x 32 ft long area constructed from the combination of two garage style tarp tents. The back sleeping area is lined with heavy cotton canvas and resembles a bedouin tent in appearance. The structure is build on a raised wooden platform and has linoleum floor covering in the back bedroom area. There is a standard Queen size bed with a pillow top mattress, bedside table, lamp, extra plug for phone charging, and a chair and small table. The front room contains an additional double size bed, loveseat sofa, a woodstove, electric lights, a small refrigerator, 2 burner cook top, and small dining table with two chairs. It can also be outfitted with a small air conditioner in the event of unreasonably warm weather. All bedding is included. There is an RV style porta potty with handwashing station located inside a privacy tent next to the tent area and is equipped with night time solar powered motion detector lights for safety and convenience. The wall tent is located in Cowboy Camp proper which is near the barn area, so night time sounds are mostly horses whinnying to each other occasionally, chickens clucking ( no roosters), a dog bark here and there, and distant coyote howling, which results in the dog bark. We are set back into the woods quite a distance from the main gravel road so any road noise is minimal to non existent. The tent is quite comfortable for two to four people. There is ample parking for one to two vehicles directly next to the tent. Water ( city water) is provided in 5 gallon jugs for your convenience.

Positives- clean bathroom/ shower area. Coyotes yipping at night. Close in to Port Townsend. Negatives- Very cluttered property … broken down cars, lots of blue tarps, possibly occupied RVs (multiple) that have been there a while…all things that didn’t add to the ambiance, reminded me of parts of Portland. The wall tent was a harbor freight style “garage” on a deck, I should have looked closer at the pics. One other negative was the hosts warning in our initial message exchange that if I took a wrong turn and disturbed the neighbors, I would be kicked out without a refund… not really a welcoming vibe. All in all- it worked as a place for my son to sleep.

Wooden Boat Fest overflow site 1a
Everyone was very nice! The property is great. We stayed in an overflow site that was typically utilized for horses. We were not told that and unfortunately we were camping, surrounded by horse poo. It was not ideal. More trees would have been nice too if they are going to utilize this as a camping area. Otherwise great! Would camp again now knowing what to expect

We had a wonderful time staying at Cowboy Camp. The sites are well laid out to give campers plenty of privacy and easy access to necessities/amenities - toilets, water, hot showers etc. Karma and Rick are super helpful - both on site and via messenger - as well as being lovely people. We had a really nice breakfast down at the cowboy wagon which we would definitely recommend for those camping on days when it is being offered. Finally, we loved the local area. There seems to be an endless supply of interesting places to explore.

Karma and Rick are lovely. They go above and beyond to make sure everyone is accommodated and has a good time. The meals and conversation were wonderful, and their property is beautiful and full of quirky things and animals.

We liked the campground and brought our two children 5 and 3. I liked that the children got to see the horses and pet and feed them. Out campsite felt more private and we could hear the trees blowing slightly in the breeze and it was very peaceful and pleasant. The stars were out at night and it felt quiet. Unfortunately, we missed the cowboy breakfast because the owners happened to be out of town so we’ll have to enjoy it next time.

The sites are big, porta potties clean, actual sink and shower right near the barn. Five beautiful horses that are friendly. Excellent hosts who also provide coffee in the morning plus great conversation. They also have old style cowboy chuck wagon and family style food if you choose that option. It is an original wagon, which the horses can be hooked up to it for a trip. Great area to visit.

Karma and Cowboy Rick never disappoint when being awesome hosts! My family and I needed a getaway from the Seattle heat and Port Townsend fit the bill. Karma and Rick have done some fantastic upgrades to the property and it keeps getting better and better every time we return to this oasis in PT. This was our third time visiting and it will not be our last! Thank you Karma and Rick for making us feel like family!

We loved Cowboy Camp! Karma & Rick were super friendly and welcoming - made us feel right at home. The campsites are well spaced and we really enjoyed being near the horses. The toilets were very clean and the shower had excellent water pressure, which was a godsend after a sweaty summer day. Lovely experience - we’d happily return!

The campground was well kept with ample space and privacy between sites. We stayed in Buck Rub and it was awesome to have the big field for the kids to run around in. Porta potties were super clean and even smelled good! Our favorite amenities were the hot shower with great water pressure and the hot breakfast on Sunday before our drive home. My kids made a ton of friends with other campers and everyone was super friendly. Rick and Karma were kind and gracious hosts. We’ll be back!

Karma and Rick saved us after our other camp site reservation cancelled on us last second. Our other campsite when it was shut down do to a heavy rain and our reservation was cancelled when we were already 5 hours from our home. Fortunately our last second 7pm reservation was quickly accepted for Cowboy Camp. Karma reached out right away to give us clear direction and stayed up late to greet us/show us to our site when we arrived at 9:30pm. Both of the host were very hospitable and we enjoy conversing with them while they worked with the horses or were preparing the cowboy dinner. We hope we are able to visit their place again next year to do the cowboy camp activities and explore Port Townsend again.

Rick and Karma were so friendly and helpful. The campground was clean and comfortable, with a nice level tent pad at our site. Dinner and breakfast were delicious with generous portions at an unbeatable price. The hosts were responsive and easy to reach for anything we needed, and we especially loved getting to spend a little extra time learning about the horses. We would happily visit again.

We stayed in "Doe's Hideaway". It's back in a the more forested part of the property and was a very nice campsite for a single vehicle and tent. The site had a garbage can with a lid, and Rick came around and delivered a couple of gallons of water in the evening which were both nice touches. We opted for the dinner and the breakfast that they offer. Both were very delicious, but the hoe cakes and the fresh berry cobbler were incredible. Rick and Karma are both friendly as can be, and are wonderful hosts. We loved seeing their horses and listening to some of the stories they've collected over the years. For bathrooms, they're are 2 port-a-potties on either end of the property, that were clean. There's a shower near the barn to use as well. The next time we're in this area, we will likely be staying at Cowboy Camp again.

We stayed in the huge glamping tent. It had a proper double bed and an extra cot and table, as well as a fridge and coffee maker. Breakfast and dinner veggie options were fantastic. Hosts Karma and Rick were very welcoming and made us feel at home and were very interesting to talk to. We look forward to going back.

Karma and Rick have created a very special place. This was out first HipCamp experience and it was perfect. Our site was fine for our camper van. The porta potty was convenient and clean. Be sure to follow the directions your receive and don’t rely on mapping programs. We followed Karma’s detailed instructions to the property and site. All around a great experience.

Stayed one night and would recommend this property. Secluded, quiet and perfect for families or a romantic night under the stars. Shower facilities were very nice and the neigh of friendly horses and subtle cluck of hens made our experience rural and personal just like we like.
