RV camping near New Richmond

·

More a large town than a city, New Richmond has long been a settling place for the Mi'kgmaq (local First Nations) Acadians and European settlers, so you’ll find nods to various cultures throughout the area. Located on the Gaspé Peninsula loop, a popular 885-kilometer route that showcases the area's incredible coastal landscapes, New Richmond offers all the services you need for a camping trip, as well as prime campsites and parks nearby. In town, you can find outdoor equipment rentals and the Pin Rouge Nature Resort, which offers mountain biking trails in summer with alpine skiing, snow-tubing, and fat-biking in winter.

New Richmond camping guide

When to go

Most people visit this region in summer for the warm weather and myriad water activities on offer, but given the Gaspé Peninsula's popularity, the summer months are very busy. Aim to book your campsite far in advance if planning a summer trip, or visit in the spring or fall shoulder seasons. Winter holds its own charms, including amazing skiing, baby harp seals, and other wildlife viewing opportunities.

Know before you go

  • Though most locals working tourism speak fluent English, French is the first language in Quebec and you may come across people with limited English. Having a translation app can be very handy.
  • Cell reception is usually decent in coastal areas but can be patchy further inland or deep in the parks.
  • You’ll need your own vehicle to explore this area.
  • Eastern Quebec has a rich array of wildlife, but always be bear aware and follow rules regarding food storage to avoid problems.
