Babsy's Absolutely Magical Retreat

I bought this magical property 13 years ago and I have developed it from beach to mountain with the idea of sharing it with epic humans since day 1. 

It is 1 acre of pure natural and artistic bliss. The natural wonders include a massive beach with space for many, a gigantic sling shot, sweet fire pits, comfortable lawn chairs, paddle boards, kayaks, a cedar strip canoe, and many other toys for you to explore. I also have a small fishing boat and 16ft catamaran that I can take guests out on for a small fee.  

There are 2 locations that can be rented separately or booked together, however there are also a couple of sites to pitch a tent on. Its like jurassic park here, very tropical and chill. The artful camper boasts of an outdoor spa and deck, BBQ, mini fridge, fantastic lake and mountain views and access and the beach from 10-8pm.  The other rental a.k.a. The beach-house comes with an attached outdoor 1950's style kitchen, oudoor on demand shower, outhouse, firepits, lawnchairs, and free use of water vessels. Very, very cool. It is located steps from the water. Truly magical.

Note: We have a Bonners Ferry, ID  mailing address but our physical location is approximately 30 miles North of Bonners Ferry and 1 mile South of Eastport, ID. We are a mile South of the Canadian Border just off US 95.

2024 SEASON INFO -  Please note,  due to below freezing nighttime temps it is likely our shower facility and on-site cabin water (other water available) will not be reopened until May15. We strive to reopen it as early as Mother Nature allows but can’t guarantee those amenities until mid May.  New for 2024 we will have a swing set down by the river below the campsite. It is a common use amenity open to River Cabin and Campsite guests. Adult supervision is required. Thank you.

You are in a forest on land shaped by the last Ice Age, The forest has nurtured generations of of wildlife including majestic birds of prey. It sustained the Kootenai People before borders separated their lands. It saw determined miners pass this way seeking their fortune in gold from British Columbia. This forest supplied timber to build railroads and homes for families in the western migration. Our family is the current steward of this forest and it is our wish to respectfully share its beauty and observe its wildlife with your family and friends!

Our Forest is surrounded by Kaniksu National Forest which is managed by the United States Forest Service (USFS)  as part of the Idaho Panhandle. National Forest..  The Moyie River ( say Moy-yay) has headwaters at Moyie Lake in British Columbia and feeds into the Kootenai  River (say Koo-ten-e) just East of Bonners Ferry.  The Moyie River is 95 miles long.

The area is private, so there is no view of the neighbors. You’ll have a broken view of the Host’s Cabin. Camp is situated on 15.4 acres of Certified Family Forest. If you hear the rumble of a train at night, it's because the Union Pacific passes along the opposite edge of the property from the campsites.

There is no mobile phone service at the campsite . There is WiFi at the campsite shelter. We strongly suggest you activate the “Cell over WiFi “ function on your smartphone BEFORE you arrive/lose cell signal so you can access Emergency 911 Services. 

There is a fire pit (firewood provided), covered shelter, a USFS-style charcoal grill, (bring charcoal and starter), picnic table, benches, bear-proof food storage box and TEMPORARY trash bin.  Please plan to "pack-out" all of your trash and recyclables.

 There are a lot of deer roaming the property, along with many birds and other wildlife . OUR NIGHTLY CHARGE Includes all the firewood you need and a 10% Hipcamp Service Fee. It does not include 6% Idaho Sales Tax and 2% Idaho Convention and Travel Tax.

Be Bear Aware : From April 1 - November 1 all food, beverages and trash must never be left unattended and, all of the same, be stored properly. Our Bear Box is large and can accommodate your supplies and cooler.

Private river getaway

Once this property was a cattle ranch but now it's a private spot nestled right next to the Salmo river.Learn more about this land:Private camping spot and small tree fort down by the Salmo River. We have room for a 35ft camper, you will be parking on grass but the site requires levelling.We are located in Salmo, BC which is 30 minutes south of Nelson, BC. Nelson is surrounded by the rugged Selkirk Mountains and sits on the shores of the West Arm of Kootenay Lake. Whether gliding through the incredible powder at Whitewater Ski Resort, rafting down class 4 rapids on the Salmo River, catching a twenty-five-pound rainbow trout on Kootenay Lake, hiking up to Kokanee Glacier, or watching the fabulous live performances at The Capitol Theatre, the area has attractions for everyone.Only a 5-minute drive to the local grocery store.Access to the mountains from the old railroad system directly off of the property by motorcycles and/or side by sides, you just need to go slow until you clear the houses.Campfires are permitted, pets are welcome.We look forward to hosting you.

Rural Camping with a View

Learn more about this land:Our Hipcamp sites are located in an 800 acre designated area.The Hipcamper can choose from sites beside a babbling brook, up the mountainside overlooking the valley or various lookout landings. Campsites will be at least 1/4 of a kilometre apart to ensure social distancing. There is an abundance of wildlife from black bears, grizzlies, cats, elk, deer, moose, wild turkeys, bald eagles. This is also a working ranch, so you will occasionally have a visit from some curious cow-calf pairs.Hazel Creek is 2 minutes from the property with lots of good Brook Trout fishing.Pets are welcome, campfires are permitted.

Hymas Family Farm Stay

Hymas Family Farm is an operating regenerative agricultural farm. We have cows to milk, eggs to gather, sheep to tend to
and pigs to feed each morning. You have the option for a farm fresh breakfast and to help with the chores. There are 29 acres of pasture and 15 acres of woods. Spectacular views nestled in a beautiful valley between the Rocky Mountains!

North Idaho is outdoorsman's paradise. Hiking, fishing, climbing or relax and enjoy the peace of the farm and mountains. There are several waterfalls and lakes nearby or a majestic ski resort within an hour's distance. All are surrounded by the towering Rocky Mountains. Canada is 20 minutes to the north!

West Kootenay Adventure

The property sits at an elevation of 900m. Located in the southern tip of the West Kootenay region just 2km from the American border. The site is a quiet mountainous setting surrounded by babbling creeks and fresh mountain springs. There are numerous hiking trails with views down 2 valleys. Rosebud Lake and nature reserve is a short 3km bike ride.

Thete is a secluded and scenic camping area set up for guests and can accommodate vehicle combinations up to 50ft in length. 

There are no hookups or cell service. However there is mountain spring water, Wifi and an outhouse at the site.

Pets welcome, campfires permitted when no fire ban. 

Located a short 20-minute drive from the historic village of Salmo, BC.

Walk or bike to Rosebud lake and wildlife sanctuary, go boating in the Ponderille. Or explore one of many private swimming holes on the Salmo River. A 2WD vehicle takes you to the top of Kootenay Pass (Stagleap Provincial park) at 1750m where world class hiking and ski touring exist.

Fishing, whitewater kayaking, mountain biking, horseback riding, canyoning, golfing, disc golf ect. There are endless opportunities to explore the rich history in the area. There are bicycles, a mobile woodfired sauna and luxury canvas Belle tent on site which can all be added to your rental for a small cost.
