We have an amazing rare spot where you can sit right on the Murray River bank and fish.  You can set up a tent within metres of the rivers edge or park your caravan/RV within 20 metres.  You will have a secluded, quiet spot for you to enjoy with your friends and dog.  Main town is only 2.5km away - good dog walking distance.

Located on the mighty Murray River, this campsite has a cleared flat fruit block with 200 metres of exclusive Murray River frontage and limited shade.  Murray River National Park is divided into six separate areas and our region features two: the Lyrup Flats, 2,000 hectares along the floodplain on the northern side of the river. It provides wonderful opportunities for birdwatching and fishing. The Lock 4 and Eckert Creek area is a significant waterway that flows through the National Park and provides great canoe adventuring. Pelicans and other water birds, possums and kangaroos are common sights.

You will need to be self contained with own water supply and camping toilet/shower amenities. Pets on leashes are welcome. Campfires are permitted when a fireban is not in place. This campsite offers a good fishing spot for native fish. There are many fantastic places to visit nearby including the Riverland Wine Centre, 3 km to the National Parks, 5 km to canoes & boat hire facilities and 4km to the township of Berri for all your supplies.

A beautiful spot - I sadly had to cut my trip short but if you are looking for a place that’s still close to Berri but simultaneously gives you a sense of being ‘out on your own’ this is for you. Michelle and her family were lovely and welcoming and the campsite is far enough from their home that you don’t feel awkward (not that I am a rowdy camper!) - for tent campers like me there’s a couple of good spots closer to the river you can set up and there’s a beautiful willow growing over the river which is picturesque and where I set up my ‘kitchen’. I was a last minute booking because the national parks closed due to bad weather and Michelle couldn’t have been more flexible and accommodating. I didn’t get much of a chance to fish before I had to leave but I was told that you can easily hook some silver perch and a net will catch you some shrimp to use for bait. It’s very peaceful (just me, the birds and some possums!) and great for anyone looking to camp who doesn’t want to be wall to wall with other tents or caravans at a park

Looking out from the campsite
The view from the open tent was the Murray river
Apparently this is the best spot to catch a few fish :) and a gorgeous view

It is a great site for a relaxing stay. There is a level site for a caravan and plenty of room for tents. The birdlife is abundant and easy access to the river for kayaking. We had such lovely nights around the fire with a glass of red. Michelle is a wonderful host and will help you out with information and anything that you need eg firewood, eggs. If you want to get away from the crowds and relax by the river then this is the place for you.

Murray River Retreat was awesome. It was great knowing we had secured a spot on the river for the long weekend. Michelle, the host, was fantastic and was great to communicate with through the booking process and during the stay. For caravans and camper trailers there is a large open flat piece of land to position yourself facing the river, although it is more of river glimpses through the trees and foliage if sitting by your van (if the tops of the shrubs were cut down the view would be great from top of bank). You can swag and take your chair down to the waters edge, where there is a fire pit but it would keep you fit running back to and fro. The pitch is quite exposed and we did have very strong winds over a long weekend so be prepared if its windy. The owners have planted a lot of young trees which when grown in a few years will provide some protection. The free range eggs were great and being able to purchase wood was another great way to reduce carrying weight on the trip. We did hire the generator too which again saved us weight not having to take ours. (Note: Add says fully fuelled but we had to purchase fuel). Overall a great dog-friendly pitch which is very close to all the amenities of Berri. We will definitely be back. Thanks Michelle.

Lovely peaceful camping spot overlooking the river with a variety of bird life. Michelle was helpful with a couple of questions we did have. Didn’t get to catch the big fish this time but look forward to coming again later in the year to have another crack!

Beautiful and peaceful site. If you're looking to find a quite and relaxing site with amazing views, this is it! Hosts are super friendly and you only see/hear them when you need to. Would recommend a vehicle with higher clearance (or tent) if you want to get nice and close to the river!

Murray River Retreat was a great spot, right on the river. It even had a row boat! Very private setting, excellent camp location. Michelle and her family were very friendly and couldn't do enough to make our camping experience a positive one. We definitely recommend it.

Our host was friendly and welcoming, leaving us to enjoy the spot. The site was lovely once down near the river, perfect for tents and dogs. Great for people who enjoy bird watching and letting the day go by whilst watching the river. You are able to hear traffic from one of the main roads leading into Berri at peak traffic times, but most of the time it’s not an issue. Some nice walking spots to take dogs a short drive away. Ask your host how to get to these, she will be able to tell you all the the local spots.
