Not what we hoped

Unfortunately our stay was not what we hoped. The pros - the space was very private. The forest around was nice and we could see the stars in the evening. Our dog enjoyed the open space to run around. We appreciated the wood that was left so we could have a fire in the evening. The host was responsive and left a heater in the tent for us.

The cons - when we arrived, the kitchen area did not have a cover and all the dishes and cooking utensils had been left out in the rain so they were covered in dirt and fallen leaves. The garbage cans in the outhouse and next to the kitchen had not been taken out so there was still trash from the last campers. Everything in the photos looked much newer and better-kept than in real life - the furniture and rugs in the tent had definitely seen better days, the cooktops were waterlogged, many of the cooking implements were old or rusted, and the grate to cook over the fire was badly warped. The bed was an old spring mattress that sloped down at the sides so we found ourselves having to huddle in the middle. The property is very close to the highway so we could hear the traffic the entire time - it was so loud it actually kept us up at night. I found someone else's sock on the bedside table when we arrived. When we left, we passed a car parked on the property with some bumper stickers that made us very uncomfortable, including an obscene one. We ended up leaving after one night.

Quiet, secluded and beautiful campsite.

Amenities were impressive - lights, cozy blankets, fire wood, kitchen supplies, clean bathroom, games and more.

We visited Petroglyphs Provincial Park and the town of Lakefield while we were there. There is a lot more you can do too!

Dale was responsive and helpful. Great guy.

Would definitely go back!

A beautiful and peaceful camp site! A perfect getaway from the city. Dale was a great host and made sure we had what we needed for the stay! We would definitely book again next season.

We loved our stay at the Forest Hill Retreat! It was private, quiet and had everything we needed for our stay. The yurt was super cozy and the bed was super comfortable which made for a great sleep. Would highly recommend!

Overall we had a great experience, however there were a few things that we encountered that could have been better.

What we didn't enjoy:
- Tent had a weird musty smell
- Grass could have been cut, there were a few holes on the ground that we kept tripping into as we were not able see due to the tall grass
- The wooden steps to the shower had broke while i was stepping out

Things to keep in mind:
- The shower was located in the shaded area so we definitely did not get any warm/hot water
- Kitchen was located directly where the sun was so it does get extremely hot while cooking

Things we enjoyed:
- the cute ol' dvd was nice
- batteries were provided for the lights in the tent
- camping chairs were provided
- private campsite
- the chickens and cat that we saw were absolutely adorable
- the campsite had pretty much everything on hand from the tent, designated kitchen and eating area, shower, washroom and a little badminton net.

It was a nice experience but my boyfriend and I have come to the conclusion that we definitely would have preferred regular camping instead of glamping.

We really enjoyed everything about this campsite and had an awesome time. It rained heavily our first night there and we stayed dry and warm in the tent, and there were games and cards available to play. Once the weather cleared up, we had everything we needed to enjoy the outdoors as well, with firewood, camp chairs, lawn games, etc and a well stocked outdoor cooking area all provided. Dale was really helpful throughout our stay. We'll definitely be back!
