Red Fox Meadow Campsite
Kind people, cool place
Camped here on the way to total eclipse in early April and liked it enough to stay again on the return trip. Fell asleep to the chirping of spring peepers and woke to the honking of geese. Hiked up to the conglomerate "slabs" behind camp to greet sunrise over a lovely vista. Walked a mile and a half on the rail trail right beside camp to the spectacular view from Rosendale Trestle 150 ft over Rondout Creek. Traveled in the other direction and saw the bridge from A Quiet Place (movie). Wandered the grounds surrounding camp, saw people practicing trapeze, and chatted with kind, happy, and helpful farm sojourners. Easy to find tent site at Red Fox Meadow if you follow directions on hipcamp, arrive in daylight, and are comfortable figuring things out on your own (each night of my stay, another camper arrived after dark and ended up camping in the parking lot). My visit was between rains and the meadow was muddy, but not a problem finding some high ground and using tarp/footprint under tent. I was the only camper in the meadow each night. Clean toilets, sinks, and showers (2 of each) in the new bath house. Hope to return with my bike and cycle the whole Walkill Valley Rail Trail right outside my tent's vestibule!

Beautiful spot! Great walking opportunities. Relaxing places to sit and enjoy surroundings. And the Wi-Fi is very very helpful.

I do not recommend
I feel like the listed amenities for this site are not correct. Perhaps this is a fun spot in the summer when the rail trail cafe is open. The entirety of the property is pretty strange with half finished buildings and projects everywhere, it was a little hard to figure out. The meadow where you are supposed to camp is so muddy and buggy, we decided to sleep in our car. Even if it wasn’t so muddy, I can’t imagine any part of the field ever being level for a tent to sit comfortably. I guess the water isn’t running for the season yet in early April? It’s a shame this wasn’t expressed to us since access to water is a huge reason to book a campsite. I tried reaching out to the host for clarification on the water situation, but they never answered me. The toilets were fairly disgusting, which isn’t too surprising for portapotties, unfortunately they also didn’t have TP. My husband and I had a rough night here.

The place was great and abundant with amenities. They had a hiking trail thay was immersed in nature. It was clean and organized. It also had a small cafe and i think a bath house. Left early bc didnt feel like packing in the rain but overall a nice place to camp.

Campsite in decline
Bummed out that the platform to keep the tent off the ground was removed as the meadow is very soggy. We had found a good spot that was dry and mostly flat, but as we were setting up the tent, we found shards of broken glass so we moved much farther back. There is also a collection of garbage that has been growing in the meadow (think large objects like furniture, etc). On top of that, I know there was water available, even in the cold months (we've stayed in December before and this trip was April), but when we tried to find the spigot, we couldn't. I messaged the host but never got a response. You do have access to two pretty nice outdoor toilets though so there's that?

Rail trail access was fantastic. Wifi at the Cafe and in the meadow was great. Good signs and description of the location. Friendly neighbors camping and renting nearby. Clean and stocked bathrooms. Offseason camper note, no running water in winter so pack a few gallons.
