The camp site is a private spot away from it all but only 10mins to the town. You'll have the whole camp to yourselves. Total privacy! • Families absolutely love staying on our eco-farm among the many farm animals. Friendly free ranging kune kune pigs, goats and a flock of coloured sheep as well as our cows, peacocks and ducks. You can walk the farm and get up close to all our animals. • Camp kitchen, firepit, shower and composting toilet on site. • Bring matches, paper and your firewood and marshmallows!

* THE SPACE: Gold Nugget Hut is a gorgeous little space (10m2) created with all sorts of upcycled and salvaged pieces collected over the years by us. We've incorporated hardwood power poles, reclaimed wood paneling, antique enamel cookware and collectables within the site. The hut itself started off life as an industrial office in Greymouth. We relocated it, relined and clad it then added all the special touches. Almost everything is either upcyled/repurposed and 2nd hand. * The hut is perfect for a couple, with cosy indoor sleeping and a small seating area. Outside is an outdoor, covered kitchen and seating area - a great way to connect with the stunning Hokitika countryside. * Outside, outdoor furniture and a campfire area are the perfect places to take in the farm vibe and stargaze. * KITCHEN + COOKING: Gold Nugget Hut is self catering, just bring your own food and drink, and cook meals using the facilities provided in your covered, outdoor kitchen. You'll find all the cutlery, crockery, pots and pans that you'll need. A chilly bin is provided to keep food and drinks cool. You can cook on the campfire as well, weather permitting. *SLEEPING ARRANGEMENT: The hut has a queen bed with 100% cotton sheets, a feather duvet inner and extra blankets. Towels are also provided. *POWER: Gold Nugget Hut is completely off-the-grid. Hot water is heated via a gas califont and cooking facilities are run via LPG bottles. Lighting runs on solar power and phones can also be charged. There is limited cellphone reception. *HIGHLIGHTS: You are welcome to walk the farm and meet the many animals. You can hand feed the friendly sheep and birds. Bird lovers will delight in the abundance of fantails, tui, kereru, ruru and weka in the bush surrounding the hut. *There are a number of short walks through old gold mine workings nearby. It is a short drive to Hokitika Beach, the Hokitika Glow Worm Dell and the Hokitika Gorge. The incredible Pancake Rocks at Punakaiki is approximately 1hr 15mins drive.

Blue Spur Farmstay Hokitika
We expected a different experience. We step into so many pig poo at the campsite, the fire was really hard to lit due to wet firewood and everything was not in the best shape. Considering it to be the most expensive camp ground we stayed on with 2 campervan we would not recommend it to a friend.

Blue Spur Farmstay Hokitika
Wow!!! We spent 12 days in the South Island camping and this place was the highlight. This may be the best hipcamp I’ve EVER stayed at. If you are looking for a true secluded camping experience, outdoor living, and (as an add bonus) hanging with pigs, chickens, and peacocks this is the place to be. Everything from the kitchen to the bathroom is made from recycled materials. If you have kids there is a great area for them to play and a “secret trail” with tree house for them to explore. This is what camping is about. I would have paid twice this to stay at blue spur farm. I hope the rest of New Zealand catches on to hipcamp.

Chill & relax with nature!
GOLD NUGGET HUT - Hokitika
We stayed at the hut for the last two nights and had a wonderful time! The hut is located down a long private drive, so the only noise that you hear are the sheep or peacocks. No power nor Wi-Fi, so plan accordingly. We enjoyed walking down the road to watch the sheep, alpacas, pigs, chickens, cows & peacocks. The hut had a bed, 2 chairs & nightstand so we spent the majority of our time on the patio or in the kitchen area which is in a separate building nearby. Animal lover paradise: we were visited by a dog, several chickens & peacocks. The hut does not have any temperature control, so plan accordingly. We simply closed the door and were warm enough with the provided sheets & blankets. We went to Punakaiki to see the blow hole and pancake rocks and to Arthur’s Pass Village and went hiking at Devils Punchbowl both were beautiful and worth the time.

GOLD NUGGET HUT - Hokitika
What a sweet little farmstead and a great spot to spend time in the calm, quiet hills of Blue Spur. The animals are a special backdrop and some even come to visit the hut! The peacocks, chickens and dogs are all so friendly. My son and I enjoyed biking the back roads and checking out the Blue Spur Forest Trails from the hut as base camp (30 mins ride to Stations Inn).

What a great spot! No fuss with checking in, details for entry are available upon confirmation, easy access to an awesome spot. Toilet, shower, kitchen area & water. Seating area, campfire pit, etc. && the sweetest dogs stopped by for a visit, plenty of other farm animals: peacocks, chickens, cows, pigs, etc We wish we could have stayed longer. Thank you for the campsite!

Blue Spur Farmstay Hokitika
Was definitely the most unique stay of our 2 weeks+ trip. Absolutely loved the kitchen area which was made entirely of recycled materials. Exploring the farm was itself an attraction, we were even approached by three very friendly and talkative pigs, as well as two very excitable dogs. The spot was also easily accessible. Definitely recommend to anyone visiting Hokitika wanting a nice little country getaway.

Blue Spur Farmstay Hokitika
Blue Spur Farmstay was incredible. It is such a beautiful spot to camp, and extremely well provisioned. The shower and bathroom were excellent, and outdoor kitchen perfect! Having the brazier and outdoor furniture was a highlight. We loved having the pigs cruising around the campsite, they were super friendly. However it is worth being aware of if you don't like the sound of that!
