Fickle Break Farm is a 28-acre coastal property on the doorstep of a world-class surf break, only 30 mins from Hobart. You can walk out the door with your surfboard, bike, or running shoes and jump in the ocean or onto several beautiful coastal walking and riding trails. We are 10 minutes away from Lauderdale shops and 10 mins to the best surf beaches in Hobart on the South Arm Peninsula. Pitch your tent or park your set up on our beautiful grassy hilltop campsite overlooking the South Arm Peninsula and Mt Wellington in the distance. You'll enjoy good access to Mays Point surf break and the Clarence Coastal Trail just a few mins away with walking tracks to Cremorne and Lauderdale along the coast. The camping area has a communal fire pit, access to fresh water and power in our large shed if needed, and a table tennis table. We are on tank water, so please be mindful of this. And please drive slowly and be mindful of treading lightly on the land. We also offer a 5m lotus belle stargazer tent, situated at the very top of the property, nestled amongst the native trees and with water views, it has a luxurious queen-sized bed with beautiful linens and is a short walk away from the walking tracks to the beach. All guests have access to our well-maintained composting toilet with water views and a beautiful hot outdoor shower that is open to the sky. Next door is a large sheep property, and on our land we have friendly chooks, peacocks, Guinea pigs, miniature goats, horses and a border collie. Guests and children are welcome to pat, feed and cuddle the chooks, Guinea pigs, horses and the miniature goats! Dogs are welcome as long as they are friendly with other dogs and people, and can be trusted not to escape to the next-door sheep property (beware as farmers can be ruthless with dogs!). They will need to be supervised and restrained (tied up or placed in our closed-in yard at night so they don’t disturb wallabies and other wildlife). We love meeting new people and are passionate about our beautiful property so we can’t wait to share it with you!@ficklebreakfarm on Instagram Pitch your tent or park your set up on our beautiful grassy hilltop farm overlooking the South Arm peninsula and Mt Wellington in the distance. We are a young family who love to share our special property with other likeminded people. We are totally kid friendly and dog friendly and the vibe at our campsite is very much like you’re a part of the family. Lots of privacy, but our farm has a wonderful sense of community with lots going on and we love our campers to be a part of it. CHECK IN Check in is from 2pm onwards. Please try not to show up earlier than this as we likely won’t be there to show you in. If you do want to come early, get in touch to arrange it with us beforehand. Check out is before 12noon. If you want to check in late at night please arrange with us beforehand so we can give you instructions. SITE & ACCESS We are 15-20 mins from the airport, 30 mins from Hobart, and 5 mins from Lauderdale shops which has excellent food and fruit and vege, petrol, gas, post office and chemist, and a bottle shop. Access to the campground is via our long dirt driveway through the coastal forest of the lower property, past the tiny home and the horse paddocks up to the top of the hill. Follow the signs to the campsite past the main house, entering at the large longboard surfboard sign, and go slow watching out for wildlife and kids! Each campsite is marked by a stone coloured solar light. First come first serve. AMENITIES The site has multiple individual fire drums you can move around to your chosen site. There is access to a tap with fresh rain water for drinking, but we can NOT provide filling up of larger tanks. You can fill water tanks at the service station at Shoreline shopping centre, 15 mins away. We have a brand new, beautifully designed compost toilet overlooking the ocean and rolling farmland, set amongst the privacy of our bush land and close to our campsites. There is a pathway with solar lights leading you to the toilet. We have an outdoor shower available also, please take care to conserve our precious rain water and only use natural products. We have 6 fully leveled flat pads with gravel big enough for large caravans. Plus lots of great little nooks for swags and tents. We have 2 powered sites available via long extension leads from our shed if required. The site also has a trampoline, hammocks, and swings… full access to our large communal shed with a big table tennis table, fairy lights, a couch and speakers for music. We also have toys, kites, bikes and games for kids. EXPERIENCES The campsite is on the top of the hill with close access to the fickle but amazing Mays Point surf break and the Clarence Coastal Trail just a few mins away with walking tracks to Cremorne and Lauderdale along the coast. Follow the pathways and the signs to the hill and enjoy a sunset beer overlooking the ocean. We are 30 mins to Hobart, 15-20 mins to the airport, and 5-10 mins to the nearby surf beach Clifton Beach which is patrolled with flags during summer. The Cape Deslacs walk is amazing too. There are many amazing day trips to do from your base with us. Talk to us for recommendations. Also talk to us if you want to book the entire site to yourself as this can be arranged also. FARM ANIMALS and WILDLIFE We have 4 miniature goats, 3 Guinea pigs, 17 baby chickens, 4 guinea fowl and bunnies to entertain the kids, and the chooks provide fresh eggs for you too. We also have a friendly border collie called Coru, who will greet you on arrival and we welcome other friendly dogs and pets. We have six beautiful horses that live in the lower paddocks on the property. Lots of sheep next door on the commercial sheep farm. Please be careful with children as our property has lots of comings and goings so take care around the driveways, and make sure to supervise children with the animals so they are gentle and shut gates etc. Please drive slowly down the driveway especially at dusk and at night as we have lots of wallabies, bandicoots and bettongs that share our home. We also have horses agisted in our lower paddocks. LAST MINUTE BOOKINGS/WALK INS ***Please do not just show up at our property without a booking. We are a small campground and we have young children running around so we prefer booking ahead especially if it’s summer season. If you don’t have a booking, call Sammy ahead before driving up. 0403247130. FIREWOOD ***firewood is BRING YOUR OWN. No fires on total fire ban days and no fires if windy.

We enjoyed our stay and found Sam to be a very friendly, helpful and welcoming host. Families with kids loved the farm animals. Although we managed to fit on a site with our 25’ total length van, it was difficult manoeuvring in the limited space. The flat van/tent sites for the van ok, but there is not much room for the tow vehicles. The description of suitable for vehicles up to 32ft led me to believe the whole campsite and sites were larger than it actually is. However, a great place for smaller tents and campers. Considering the space available, the fees are quite high, but we were willing to pay to secure a campsite over the Easter weekend. We chose this Hipcamp as we thought it would be quieter and more spacious than a caravan park, but it was on par. It is a good location for access to Hobart and surrounding areas. All in all a good time and we would probably find it much better out of peak holiday time.

Ultimate Kids Camping Spot
Had the most wonderful weekend at Fickle Back Farm. The kids loved playing with all the other kids and even made their own club, with a cubby house and soccer pitch. The goats, chickens and dogs were entertaining. The camp site was fully booked but there was plenty of space to set up and relax. Heaps for kids to play and explore outdoors. We will definitely be back for a third visit.

Fickle Break Farm Campsites
We arrived at 5pm after messaging at 4:30 with our expected arrival time. Upon an arrival we messaged the host as per the booking instructions. We waited 1/2 an hour with no response despite several attempts at messaging and calling. The site looked abandoned and our 18 month old daughter was getting upset and screaming. We made the tough call to leave and head home. On our way home we received a message from the host advising they’d decided to go away themselves and to just pick a site and set up. Nowhere in the instructions was it mentioned that this may be the case. Had they told us earlier in the day or responded promptly to messages we would have known what was happening and what to do. Once home, unpacked and having settled our daughter we responded to the hosts message explaining that we’d come home and why. We requested to discuss options to cover some out of pocket expenses due to them not following their own check in instructions. It is over a week since this occurred and despite a number of attempts to contact them we’ve had no response. This was our first Hipcamp experience and it’s been incredibly disappointing, and a terrible look for Tasmanian Tourism. Think very carefully before booking this site.
