The Historic Telegraph Station '1884' is on the park grounds as well as the Historic Post Office '1886' Now a Community Post Office. The Cafe/Restaurant caters for take away and eat in meals. This area is one of the best wildflower areas when in season because the South and the north regions meet in the Shark Bay region.
This park boasts one of the best areas to see an abundance of bird wildlife. Watch the beautiful sunsets over the Stromatolites which is most relaxing before retiring for the night. We are a small family run business and all costs are kept to a minimum. Please note that no water is potable and power allocations are limited therefore we request consumption is kept to a minimum.

It was the perfect location. The Salt Baths were just what we needed after a long day of driving. Although we had booked a grass area and on arriving was told they were closed for the season our location was still fine. It was close to thr amenities and was perfect for what we needed for our time there.

The station was the favourite part of our 2 week holiday. With good food, entertainment and the natural hot springs it was perfect. We just struggled a little with no power because of our little bub and warming bottles. Lots of space though and great atmosphere. Going to stay for another couple of nights next time.

RAC Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort is absolutely incredible and a true paradise. To fully enjoy it, I recommend staying at least 3 days. The common areas were spotless, making the whole stay feel welcoming and very comfortable.
What really stood out were the many activities available — from exploring the stunning beach and observing wildlife to simply relaxing in such a peaceful setting. Every corner of the resort felt well cared for and inviting.
I loved my time here and will definitely return. It’s the kind of place that stays in your heart long after you leave.

Great spaces under magnificent trees on the banks of a beautiful, broad (dry) river, just off the Highway, but remarkably quiet. A bunch of happy campers spread over plenty of space.

Super nice lady at the reception. The toilets and showers are a bit outdated but everything worked, so good enough for our stay of 2 nights. We had a remote and super relaxt stay. We could even use the laundry facility of the lady at the reception.

Site had easier availability. Not sure what else was available at Carnarvon as we didn't stay long in the town but found norwesta an excellent place to hook up the motorhome to power, refill water etc. Shower block is abit older but the hot water was fantastic. The on-site Cafe does a nice range of Japanese/Chinese food, service was a little slow but tasted fantastic. Also available for a coffee in the morning.

Great for a stop over very close to IGA hardware store and beer shop for restock. Staff are friendly and helpful. The laundry and toilet clean and good showers. Great to camp on green grass. They have an onsite cafe restaurant that seems to be well supported. We were in a camper trailer so the noise of Carnarvon was bad at night dog’s, aircon trucks traffic.

Where to go
Denham & Monkey Mia
Most visitors to Shark Bay end up using Denham or Monkey Mia as a base and exploring from there. A quaint and quirky tourist town, Denham has a handful of caravan parks and campsites, while Monkey Mia—known for its friendly dolphins—offers a more relaxing, resort-like getaway on the edge of Francois Peron National Park and activities like watersports like snorkelling, canoeing, and kayaking. South of Denham, you’ll find waterfront camping at Nanga Bay, as well as a handful of first-come, first-serve 2WD-accessible campsites on the coast (permits required).
Francois Peron National Park & Dirk Hartog Island
For a more remote slice of paradise, you can’t get much better than Francois Peron National Park—which spans both arms of Shark Bay’s U-shaped peninsula. North of Denham, you’ll find great camping areas at Big Lagoon (four-wheel drive only), while on the other side of the peninsula, Dirk Hartog Island is also the site of the first-known European landing on the Australian continent, over 400 years ago. Home to one of Western Australia’s most remote eco-lodges, access to the island requires a barge trip from Steep Point (also only accessible via 4WD.
Hamelin Pool, Gladstone Bay & Wooramel Station
While many of Shark Bay’s attractions lie on the peninsula itself, the stromatolites at Hamelin Pool only require a quick detour onto Shark Bay Road, just past the Overlander Roadhouse off the Northwest Coastal Highway. There are a handful of pet-friendly station stays and campsites nearby with powered and unpowered sites, fully kitted-out camp kitchens, boat ramps, golf courses, and even geothermal baths.
When to go
The most popular time to visit Shark Bay World Heritage Area is during the summer when the warm, dry weather—and the school holidays—bring visitors galore. However, it can be a little on the windy side. If you’re after optimum conditions for snorkelling, kayaking, and camping, then the best time to visit is actually between April and May. Winter can be a little wet, while early spring (August and September) are prime time for whale-watching and wildflower spotting.
