Fringed by white-sand beaches, kaleidoscopic coral reefs, and sweeping ocean views, Exmouth is the basecamp-of-choice for exploring Western Australia’s Coral Coast. Just minutes from town, Cape Range National Park is the gateway to the World Heritage-listed Ningaloo Marine Park, home to the world’s largest fringing reef. Look out for sea turtles, manta rays, and whale sharks as you snorkel and scuba dive along the coast, take a glass-bottom boat cruise, then head inland to hike through the park’s caves and canyons. The park’s beachside campgrounds provide unpowered sites with pit toilets and picnic tables, and they are incredibly popular—advance bookings are essential from March through November, and holiday weekends can sell out six months in advance. Alternatively, check into one of Exmouth’s private campgrounds or holiday parks, which have powered sites and facilities such as a camp kitchen, dump point, free wifi, and a swimming pool.
