Fun time on the lake.
We really enjoyed our stay, in spite of the excessive heat! Our sight was nice and flat and conveniently close to the restroom, and standpipes. I would have appreciated a garbage can in our sight but we made due with a trash bag that we then hauled to the dumpster. The Yellow Jackets (meat Bees) and flys were terrible, so we'll definitely bring our own traps for our next trip in August!
It was a real treat to see a Bald Eagle training her young to hunt up close! The water was a wonderful respite from the heat and we enjoyed fishing, even though it was just to hot to get a bite. The kids had a blast and someone even bought them ice cream at Frank's Dinner. Speaking of Frank's we were pleasantly surprised when Frank's Daughter, I didn't catch her name, filled up our ice chest FOR FREE with ice, not once, but TWICE! That was a pretty nice touch for sure! We made sure to tip for the kindness. All in all we had a great experience and will be coming back for sure!
1st experience was excellent.
Finnon Lake is a nice place to camp, relax and meet nice folks.
During our stay, there were plenty of young families there. It was nice to see and hear the children having a nice time. The grounds are well maintained. The camp host was also very nice.
We LOVED our stay at Finnon Lake (B-8)
Close to the bathrooms which worked out well for my family. Huge plus that the volunteers keep it clean. Thankful for them!
The spot itself was very clean, level, and had a good amount of shade.
Shout out to Eileen for being a wonderful camp host, and our dog’s favorite camp visitor!
Can’t wait to come back!
The stay was great, although you are right in the middle of the camp at B-8. ➕ side... close to the bathrooms... down side... close to the bathrooms so everyone is always walking past your campsite. Lake is perfect size to let my younger ones kayak on their own. The hosts Jill and Kevin were nice and friendly as well. When we go back we'll choose one closer to the lakeside.
Pleasant, relaxing escape
I visited Finnon Lake a week prior to camping there. I had no expectations of privacy when camping because of my earlier visit. Site B8 has zero privacy. You're sort of on top of a 'hill' and unless you have a canopy (with sides) or two, there is no privacy. Of course, that is why B8 was available at such short notice! As first timers camping at Finnon, we camped anyway - to escape the madness where we live and to be able to 'scope' out the other camping area sites. Two reasons to choose B8: (1) close to bathrooms and (2) close to water spicket. We were greeted by both hosts upon arrival. They were available most of the time should any need arise. (There was no specific need!) We were treated to their guitar playing and singing in the evening. Most enjoyable! The obvious activity (besides camping) involves the lake. There are 3 locations ('beach' areas - large rectangle of light colored gravel denotes those areas) from which you can enter the water with your body and/or your water toy or boat. [It is great that no motor boats are allowed here!] The gravel region closest to the camp sites was well maintained and 'clean.' The gravel region away from the camp sites, but not in the official 'day use' area, was covered with dog feces. Unfortunately, inconsiderate pet owners exist everywhere. As we packed up to leave Finnon, we saw an individual cleaning up that location. I don't know if they did it out of the kindness of their heart, or if they were a volunteer with the organization that runs Finnon. We never checked out the gravel at the day use area. The water was wonderful to swim in. It was not cold and took no time for the body to adjust to the temperature. Two other activities to enjoy are hiking and biking. There are many trails. Most trails I have no clue where they lead to. A main dirt road circles the lake. Half is exposed to vehicle traffic (which is very minimal at most times) and half is not (it's closed to traffic)! I rode my bike on this road around the lake. There were two hills that I woosed out on (walked the bike up part ways), enjoyed the rapid decline on the other side of those hills, and basically got some exercise for the day! Do watch where you are going - a few feet off of the road I saw some poison oak. That was the first I had seen at the lake. Camping at Finnon exposed us to nature: bull frogs at night; Canadian geese - who get some twisted pleasure in flying low in the middle of the night and conversing loudly with each other; a turtle; bald eagles; some type of vultures; many homo sapiens - especially of the rugrat and curtain crawler variety. We were very pleased to see the involvement of the parents with their kids. On this occasion, everyone was on their best behaviour! There were also many dogs. Most were well behaved. One was not: it barked for a long time in the middle of the night (one night only for us). Either their owners are sound sleepers, or they are used to the barking! But this is another variable out of our control. Our camping trip was very enjoyable. It was worth coming to Finnon, even at B8! Rest assured, we will attempt to reserve 3 months ahead of time to get the better camp site!!
