Loved exploring cuyama badlands!
This might have been one of the coolest spots we've camped! Gorgeous surroundings and cute local gems to eat/visit within 20 minutes. Jim has made this site low maintenance-any misc equipment you could think of- he had provided. This would be a perfect spontaneous trip to just get in your car and go. Plenty of space for 2 and we brought our own blankets. With windows open and about 50-60s at night, the camper kept us warm with a nice breeze.
An inspired solo retreat spot
This was a great spot for my solo retreat. I loved walking along the creek bed and looking at the many pretty rocks. There were sweet bunny visitors in the morning. And the moon shone through the camper windows in the night, with sky of sparkling stars beyond. The site had everything I needed, with nothing extra to disrupt my connection with nature. I especially appreciated the pile of firewood. It was very pleasant to watch the sunset over the mountains next to a crackling fire. Plus the covered picnic table was excellent for an art project. Jim was a warm, kind host. I accidentally left lights on in my car and drained the battery. He came and gave me a jump start with a smile the morning I was leaving.
One-of-a-kind desert paradise
This cute little retro trailer tucked away with a view of the Cuyama Valley and a night sky full of stars was the blissful retreat into nature I'd been craving. The trailer was clean and well-kept. Comfy bed, stove worked great and it stayed toasty warm with the propane heater even on a below-freezing night. Cookware, wood and everything I needed to grill was provided and there were even a couple of reclining chairs by the fire pit.
Jim was the perfect host. If you love a good story and want to meet someone who loves the land and the life he's living, make sure to say hi to this wonderful guy. He made sure I had everything I needed and I felt totally welcomed.
Song Dog Ranch is exactly what a Hipcamp should be. He's made sure that every campsite is privately placed so you feel like you've got the whole place to yourself. The roads are well maintained as are the outhouses (very clean!). Overall, you can tell this host cares for and takes very good care of his land and his sites. If only all campgrounds were this wonderful!
I will certainly be coming back to this wonderful Hipcamp. If you've never tried Hipcamp before and you're looking in this area, I HIGHLY recommend Song Dog!
songdog never disappoints. this place is something you can’t fully describe until you spend a night here—truly magical. jim is the most gracious host, along with jill and gypsy of course. usually i tent camp here but i was camping alone and opted for the trailer to keep warm; it was such a great experience. so many creature comforts i’m not accustomed to having while camping and such attention to detail at the site. can’t wait to come back soon.
Camping with amenities!
I absolutely loved camping at this ranch! It was so peaceful and beautiful! Jim and his family made sure everything was set up with all the essentials! It even rained overnight, but the camp was very comfortable with the trailer set up!
The trailer site is so peaceful and private. With your own private outhouse and trailer, this is camping in style!
Absolutely would stay over and over again! Thank you for hosting such a wonderful experience in the desert!
Song dog ranch = new favorite place
Great experience, Jim set us up with everything we needed for a weekend getaway. Loved the location of the Vintage trailer up on the private bluffs, made for a peaceful time for the wife, 2- dogs and I.
The tepid tub was a savior from fairly warm days.
Looking to go back soon as the water tower spot looks awesome too.
Vintage glamp trailer
The site was amazing! We’ve been going to Songdog for 3 years now and each time is better than the last. We’ve stayed at different sites every time and not one has disappointed. Jim is an amazing host and those sunsets are breathtaking. Everything was great and the vintage glamp trailer was the perfect place for for two of us. I would recommend bringing an air mattress or mattress topper for some added cushion on the bed. It’ll make sleeping much more comfortable and enjoyable. I would 100% say there again and am looking forward to trying out all the sites Songdog has to offer.
