The small collection of basic tent sites at South Esther Campground has you settling in close to Lake Esther amongst the evergreens. You’ll find plenty of hiking waiting for you in the woods, as well as access to beautiful views of the lake and Esther Falls. Also, nearby Lake Bay is the home of one of the world’s largest fish hatcheries. Actual fishing is strictly controlled—anglers are welcome, provided they play by the rules. And wildlife buffs? Remember: in Alaska, fish mean bears, and you stand a good chance of catching the local black bears in action!
