From NorCal to SoCal, yurts offer an alternative to camping in popular destinations.
California is anything but basic, so why should your camping be? A yurt provides a glamping-style experience in some of the state’s coolest outdoor settings. A few places such as Big Sur have yurt resorts (book well in advance), but private yurts often stand alone so you can enjoy a little seclusion. In the north, a yurt in Eureka or Mendocino provides proximity to coastal Redwood forests like Redwood National and State Parks and Mendocino Woodlands State Park. In Wine Country, buy a bottle of local vino to enjoy back at a vineyard-view yurt, or head to Santa Cruz where both forested hills and surfing beaches are accessible. In Southern California, the desert is a glamping paradise where yurts and other unique lodging put you near Palm Springs and Joshua Tree National Park. If you can’t find the perfect yurt, alternative structures like canvas tents, bell tents, domes, tipis, and pods offer similar types of stays.
