Farm-Fresh Meals, Stargazing, Peaceful Streams, and Camping Near Asheville

Duck Dance Farm is a 4-acre sustainable homestead and farm located in Burnsville, North Carolina. Just an hour northeast of Asheville, it offers a quick nature escape nestled in the beautiful Pisgah National Forest.

There are two campsite options, both offering ample space for hammocks, tents, fires, and most importantly, the peaceful sounds of a river. This unique farm has seven ponds, a constructed wetlands area, and a pristine creek running the length of the property. The farm is also home to a variety of rare and endangered species of poultry.

The owners of the farm, Andrew and Pat, are engaging and passionate about educating their guests on ecosystem-based aquaculture and the history of Duck Dance. They gave us a tour of the property and were eager to inform us about their duties as aquaculture farmers. Here is the farm’s mission in their words:

Our farm mission is embodied by the three ideals of conservation, education, and demonstration. Conservation of heritage and endangered species of plants and animals, education of our customers, and demonstration of a productive and responsible way of farming are our primary goals.

There is an option to buy a farm fresh dinner and/or breakfast, and I would highly recommend it. We ate local trout, polenta, & tomatoes for dinner, and duck eggs, duck bacon (amazing), and homemade blueberry preserves with biscuits for breakfast. Before you head to bed, be sure to spend some time stargazing!
