A peaceful and serene camping site. We've built a Zen Garden at the top of the hill. This is a very rustic place to camp up in the Central Mountains of New Mexico. The Stargazing view is stunning! About an hour from Gallup, near the Wolf Sanctuary. All the Land of Enchantment has to offer in the Spring, Summer and fall! A sacred place where your family can go car camping. I like having my 4x4 Truck...right here at my campsite. For others that don't care, there's lots of tent camping available. One must see it to believe it it's absolutely sublime. We're building a retreat for camping with groups it's so peaceful and beautiful. A peaceful Serene setting definitely a getaway spot nestled in 7,300' Mountains.

From U.S. Highway 550 (north of Nageezi), follow the signs that say Chaco Canyon National Monument Park (County Road 7900). From County Road 7900 and County Road 7950 (turn right on 7950). After 3 miles, at the end of pavement, you will see a sign that says "Dry Camp", with a long dirt driveway. Our campground is 13 miles before the hazardous road to Chaco Canyon. We like to say the we are "The Gateway to Chaco Canyon". Save the wear and tear on your trailers, camp with us! Horse-Thief Campground is an upcoming camp; located on 5 acres of land and more, for campers to enjoy. In a quiet; serene, beautiful landscape area of the Dine Nation. With beautiful sunrise; sunsets and night sky is out of this world. There are trails in which visitors may walk or bike, as well as a Look Out Point. Horse-Thief is currently a Dry Camp with no Electricity or running water however generators are welcome. There is one portable restroom. We look forward to Meeting and Greeting you! Very disappointed they have done away with tent only sites. They say it is because of possible rock falls. But if you have ever been to Chaco...that is a possibility almost anywhere Really have no desire to tent next to huge RV belching noxious fumes.... what a shame. Camping the best way to experience Chaco

While one of the two bathroom structures is under construction, there are no reserved sites. Best availability is at 11:00 checkout. We were there mid week in May. All RV sites were taken by 1:30. Go to the campground first, pick your site and then go to the visitor center to pay the fee.

Chaco Culture National Historic Park, containing remnants of a massive ancient (850 – 1250 A.D.) civilization, is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and International Dark Sky Park. We viewed amazing night skies, including the Milky Way, and spent the next day exploring the Chacoan pueblo remains. The Chacoans are known for their pre-planned and advanced building techniques. Their structures were often oriented in the director of solar, lunar, or other astrological events.
