Wildlife-friendly glamping amongst trees, bluebells and ponds, a 10-minute drive from the Pembrokeshire coast

There are signs of a lawnmower here – there are mown pathways and some areas around the lakes have been trimmed neatly for for fishing access – but, for the most part, things are left untouched. And that's just the way owners Kylie and Gethin like it. On the edge of Broadmoor Village in Pembrokeshire, their eight-acre glamping site feels like a little pocket of wilderness. Butterflies and bats call the place their home, and there are dragonflies in abundance around the two natural, spring-fed lakes. Somewhere, in amongst it, are the bell tents, bedecked with proper beds and everything you need. Once you find yours, it's time to settle in.

Though a watermeadow by name, the site is really made up of a series of slopes and layers, with flat mown terraces where the bell tents are pitched but also a few shaggy slopes and wild areas of bluebells. Each bell tent is spaced out over the site with trees between them adding to the sense of privacy. Inside, there are proper double beds and inflatable singles for kids, while, outside, you'll find a firepit, a picnic table and a kitchen shack, readied with a gas hob and pots and pans. Each bell tent also has its own private 'en-pitch' loo, in the form of a compost-toilet cabin and there are showers for use a short walk away near to the car parking area.

Though it’s clear that the comfort of guests is high on Gethin and Kylie's priority list, what really shines through is how much they care for the environment of the site, even as much as they do for their campers. Certified with the Greener Camping Club, they're passionate about preserving nature. You’ll be sharing Watermeadows with the rabbits amongst the trees and the Canadian geese that idle around on the largest of the two lakes, and though a mown area in the middle of the site has been left for kids to play games and run amok, by and large, the place is known for its tranquility and the trees that surround it help shield most noise from the nearby A477.

The proximity of the road gives you easy access to the local attractions. Recently voted 'the best place to live in the world' by Lonely Planet, southern Pembrokeshire offers plenty to keep you busy. Saundersfoot Beach and Tenby are both within a 10-minute drive and it's 15 minutes to the beaches at Lydstep, Manorbier, Skrinkle Haven and Church Door Cove. You can also hop on boat tours from Tenby harbour out to Caldey Island, used as a conservation project, where they've successfully reintroduced red squirrels, golden pheasants and barnacle geese, to name but a few.

From the host
Set in a beautiful dappled meadow, we really care about our meadow and want to keep it a natural wildlife filled environment. There are many song birds darting about, rabbits, foxes, butterflies, bats and, at the right time of year, lots of dragonflies surrounding the two large lakes we have here at Watermeadows . (Children are to be accompanied by an adult at all times beside the lakes and whilst on site) We are a small site with less than 10 units all with plenty of space between, there is a large grass area in the middle of meadow for kids to run free range. We are an eco site and certified with Greener Camping Club we encourage all our guests to recycle as much as possible. We like to encourage using eco friendly products if possible eg; washing up liquid/ shower gels . Surrounded with mature trees and plants, please take care of these. Watermeadows was established as a Glamping site in 2020 we're a small family business and want to keep it that way for a more personal experience with your stay.
Nearby attractions

Folly Farm (01834812731) is a five-minute drive from Watermeadows, a great family day out where you can get up close to the farm animals in the barn or spend the day meeting the 750+ animals in the zoo. Saundersfoot beach is 10 minutes away, views of the wide and flat beach with its golden sand are best enjoyed from the harbour. From here you can go on various boat trips, likely in the pursuit of spotting the dolphins and seals that the Pembrokeshire coast is renowned for. Amroth is also just a 10-minute drive away, its flat, sandy beach is half a mile long and perfect for gentle walks and sunbathing but if you head over to the western end, you can also try rock pools when the tide is low. If you’re feeling adventurous, Morfa Bay (01994453588) is a little further out, 20-minutes away in the car, but is well worth the trip, offering activities like abseiling, zip lining and surfing.

Food and drink

The nearest shops for all your glamping essentials are either the Spa at Pentlepoir or The Co-Op at Kilgetty (both five minutes away). The Four Seasons Farm Shop (01834812911) is also a great local spot for all your fresh food needs and is just five minutes in the car on the road to Tenby. The Jeffreyston Inn (01646651394) is a nice and casual local pub with a real fire. Another great spot is The Woodridge Inn (01834812259), conveniently located five minutes away, the chef herself was born and raised in Saundersfoot and reflects her love of all things local in the ingredients she uses in all the meals, from homemade pies to fresh pasta dishes. The bar opens up onto a beer garden with a large lawn and children’s play area.
