Ani, Fitch and I are typical, everyday nonconformists who are running an experiment. We are trying to figure out if a family can use their own willing hands and a good plan to handcraft a life that they don't need a vacation from. Oh, and with very little money. Have we done it? You be the judge. Three years ago we left our South Florida creative furniture business to pursue this new goal. We set out to build an inspiring experience in simple, eco-friendly living that would find a harmony between the modern world and many old fashioned ways that we'd found ourselves missing. I think it was Shakespeare that said, "to thine own self be true." With that in mind, we also had to keep it classy. At Heirloom Hamlet, you will see us erecting cabins, installing solar arrays, building dry toilets and composting. We're timber milling, woodworking, clay-forming and metal pounding. Ani and I are big believers in being mindful and respectful of our environment wherever possible... but also in being balanced. So, we are incorporating both alternative energy and municipal utilities as they fit our homestead design. Through good design, our goal is to show just how "normal" bio-compatible, small living can feel if done well. We all have priorities and they will naturally vary greatly... and we think that's okay. But no person should be so self-absorbed that we have completely shut out the importance of being good to the earth and thus kind to our fellowmen, even future generations of them. To be completely transparent, though, the creatives in us also have had a goal to inspire onlookers to view their own space differently. We've personally found it to be so fulfilling to try and distinguish real wants and needs in life from perceived ones, and then to work hard to literally, physically turn these desires into a reality. It is a true challenge to turn off some of the modern world's noise and nail down what we actually want our life to look like, as opposed to what we have been taught it should look like. Even if we are among those that can do that, we still have to muster the courage to make the changes necessary to go and get that life. Heirloom Hamlet is life our way. Ani and I feel like this "happiness" word we hear all the time has become such a buzz term that it's been misused these days. We think that maybe more of us would feel more fulfilled if we were striving for "the pursuit of contentment" rather than the mystical "pursuit of happiness". Being content with what our hard work and determination has produced is an art form. Possessing it leaves one with a sense of control over their life and not aimlessly trying to get a hold on something unattainable and abstract. This is the conclusion we have personally come to and it is where we've aimed our focus as we carve out this place. After visiting with us we hope, at the very least, that our guests don't expect to find a corporate approach to living here, and that they can appreciate some of our old-fashioned ways. We hope that as we cross paths, we won't be held to a business standard that we have mindfully worked hard to remove ourselves from. We realized everyone has a right to be themselves, but our presentation at Heirloom Hamlet has been purposefully designed to be a relaxing getaway in our unique hideaway.

Fantastic place to stay. Curt has thought of everything you could need. Easy access, a dog park, full hookups including sewage, bathrooms, storage, and a great outdoor shower! And he does it eco friendly green. Will return!

Amazing campsite!
My girlfriend and I had a great time camping here! The campsite was awesome and Curt was a great host. There are electrical hook ups if you have an RV and Curt has a converter if you need to plug into a wall outlet. The bathhouse is very nice and the outdoor shower was fantastic, there is also a wood-burning sauna we didn’t get to take advantage of but it looks awesome! Highly recommend to stay here. It was a short drive down to Savannah. Wood for fires was also provided. We will be back!

Curt was so friendly and welcoming when I arrived at the site. He gave me a quick tour, free firewood, and I got to meet his adorable dogs, Jack and Rosie. The site was quiet and exactly as pictured. I didn't get a chance to try the wood-fired sauna so I definitely want to come back!

Tranquil and Peaceful!
Amazing! Everything that is explained on the website is absolutely correct. We pulled our 30Ft rig in (with no xtra vehicle) and fit and had extra space! Curt met with us and made us feel so comfortable. As mentioned in the description, don’t come with the expectation of a regular site. Be ready admire the beauty around you (especially the buildings and dancing trees). Thanks for a great place to rest and relax!

Sweet spot!!
What a wonderful location! Lots of space at campsite, they have clearly made a very sweet getaway. Checkin was easy. Hot showe was lovely. Dog park phenomenal

Sweet Spot for Creatives
We really enjoyed our brief stay at Curt's place, conveniently located a short ride from I-95, which was super helpful on our long journey to Florida. Such a sweet lil' sanctuary filled with creativity and ingenuity and inspiration. We will most definitely stay here again on future trips. The town of Ridgeland was also a place out of time and we would have loved to explore it more. Thank you for having us.

We stayed in one of the full hookups RV spots available and it was perfect! Curt was quick in replying to our questions prior to arriving. This is a beautiful location that was easily accessible and close to various locations including Savanna. Definitely recommend!

You won’t be sorry!
Beautiful, well-kept property in a quiet rural area close to I-95. Nice size level gravel sites with full hookups, fire ring with firewood. Good internet. We extended our stay 2 more nights because we didn’t want to leave. Would definitely stay again and probably will when we go back to Florida in the fall.

Tent/Boonedock Camping at its Best
The host gave all the information during the meet and greet needed for a smooth stay! The way he utilizes the natural resources available keeps the experience very pleasurable and you know you can leave it in the same shape as when you arrived ! Very clean! Outside shower has hot water on demand! Perfect stay!!

Best stay yet!
One of our favorite Hipcamp stays!! Curt and Ani are just great-welcomed us upon arrival and we were sad to say goodbye after a few nights stay. They keep busy doing projects and life, so let you have your privacy, but checked in with us via message to make sure we were all good, and dropped everything to just chat with us when we caught them to pick their brain on how they made this dream property come together. They made us feel like family or old friends-it felt so welcoming. We saw other campers pull in (all sites stayed full) but never heard them and only crossed paths once during a bathroom visit. The toilet room smelled better than a normal bathroom, we were so impressed with how awesome the dry toilet worked and just how little smell came from it. Simple enough for my kids to use as well. The shower was hot (curt had to come out and help us get it to kick on, but was there within a minute of our call) and it was such a pleasant experience to shower outside, but with complete privacy. The boondock site was a quick short walk. We had been concerned about snakes, but they told us their cat took pride in its job, and since there were no rodents on the property, we didn’t have to worry quite as much. A quick and beautiful drive to the coast, easy, great location!!

A Rare Find
Curt and his family have created a wonderful, thoughtful space, and were helpful and attentive hosts. We were grateful to have found our way here for a night. We loved the grounds, the huge Oak tree, and plantings...the buildings, shower & compost toilet... the camping spots, electric, water, sewer... the wood & metal crafted fencing and tables,...the attention to detail is evident everywhere. Then there's Jack & Rose, the pups in residence... ALL GOOD THINGS!!!

Curt was ready to greet me upon my arrival, he and his staff were helpful in every way. My stay was peaceful, quiet and exactly what I hoped it would be. Will I be returning, oh YES. If camping is your thing, they accept tents, small or large campers. Really outstanding in every way!

Felt like a hidden paradise
Loved it! Curt was super friendly and helpful getting us situated. Curt and Annie were super hosts, offered us a tour of their property- the Aframe and out buildings. The three spacious RV sites have full hookups (the best water!), a fire pit, rocket grill, and picnic tables. Would definitely go back, highly recommend.

Amazing campground
This is the most beautiful HipCamp we’ve ever stayed at. It would be a destination for me to come back to and spend a week on the property. We used the dry sauna and took a cool shower right after under the stars. Every little detail was thought out and everything was so clean. I would honestly like to turn around right now and go back for a few more days. Will def be staying here again.

Best Campsite
I absolutely loved camping on this property. Curt is such a good host and the campsite facilities are in pristine shape. I was tent camping and one evening it was about to pour rain and he let me borrow a board game and a place to hang out inside with my friends which was above and beyond. I would definitely recommend camping here, and I hope to go again another time!

Motocamping to the Smoky’s
Curt is a great, kind, and accommodating guy and has an amazing setup! The site was super clean and well maintained, he has a sauna, hot showers and clean bathrooms. Next time I’m passing through, I’ll be stopping by again. Ridgeland is a neat little town too. I would highly recommend this spot! 5 stars, easy!

Amazing peaceful campsite
Curt is really helpful and friendly. Firewood is available. It's very peaceful and dark enough to see stars. The location is near enough to the coast and to cities like Savannah and Charleston to make daytrips, but enough out that it's not busy. A great site, built by the hosts in an environmentally conscious manner. Would always return here when in the area!

Hip Camp at its best
Wonderful property and excellent hosts. Spent 4 nights at Heirloom Hamlet, and enjoyed every minute of it. Easily accessible, spacious and level full hook-up sites. Short drive to Savannah, Hilton Head island and beaches. Nestled in the quaint and welcoming community of Ridgeland. Highly recommend this campsite...Curt and his family will make you feel right at home.

Absolute Must Stay
100/10 would recommend. You need to stay here! Curt is an amazing host and his pups are cute too. We stayed in the boondocks and it was perfect for our old vw campervan. We parked perp to the back wall and had some really great privacy. We had our 2 pups with us and they really enjoyed the area as well. Played in the sticks and ran around the big parking area we had. This site doesn't have electrical which was fine for us. We had access to the bathhouse and it was what summer dreams are made of. As close to showering outside as you can get without showin off to your cabin neighbors 😉 truly one of the best stops on our 3wk road trip. We will for sure be making a trip back to visit. They have lots of cabin options and camping w electrical too. Plus there's a dog run right by the camp spots!
