Susan is a Star Host

The land around Bear Lake was divided into 10-acre parcels in the 1970s using an original logging trail. Logging artifacts have been found on the property. The Yellow Dog River is a legendary trout stream, and many artists have found that the river satisfies their need for the wild. We are 20 miles (app) north of Marquette, which is my home town.  It is a destination for bikers, skiiers, and outdoor rec folk!  There are so many things to see and do in Marquette, so make sure to plan enough time to check out the town!  Also, just six miles to our north is historic Big Bay.  A lumber town back in the day, it is full of history.  Check out the Thunder Bay Inn, where parts of Anatomy of a Murder, starring Jimmy Stewart and Lee Remick were filmed.  Don't miss going to the Lumberjack to see where the actual murder took place, either!  You will find good eats and perhaps even some live music at either establishment. You'll also find everything you need in the way of groceries, and gas at Cram's General Store, where there's also a laundromat.  Burns landing has the historic Burns family home renovated in a park setting, and a public beach access to mighty Lake Superior.  Yellow Dog falls is a short drive on Co. Road 510, and on the way be sure to climb Thomas Rock overlook.  There are new bike trails if you're into that as well!   Stay awhile.  You'll be glad you did! We strive to offer peace and serenity to our guests, and love to share these woods with those needing tranquility and respite from a busy world. In this sensitive environmental area, we have only two sites to keep traffic down, enhance our visitors experience, and to protect the wildlife here. Unplug with us, eh!

Cozy UP Sunset Cabin
Susan’s was amazing!! We stayed in the cabin the first weekend of October- it got down to the high 30s at night but we never even used the buddy heater. The cabin is in a perfect location; it’s overlooking the lake, has plenty of privacy, and is close enough to the host’s site/amenities. Not to mention it’s just a short drive to Lake Superior and Big Bay/Marquette stores and restaurants! There were trails, waterfalls, and all sorts of beautiful scenery nearby. Above all, Sue was a fantastic host who is deeply committed to the land she lives on and is passionate about providing a memorable experience. I wish we could’ve stayed longer and am already looking at returning next summer!

Bear Lake meets da Yellow Dog River
Amazing campsite!!
Beautiful tent site, right by the river and not too far from town (it’s a drive though) Susan was very nice and helpful, she showed us around the site. There are solar bag showers which were nice and the well water which we drank from was absolutely amazing, better the bottled in my opinion. There is a compositing toilet area with a little shelter around it, absolutely NO SMELL at all and it’s great for the environment.

Cozy UP Sunset Cabin
Your UP Retreat Awaits
We loved our stay in the Cozy UP Sunset Cabin! It sits atop a small hill, is completely wooded all around, and overlooks Bear Lake. The cabin is as described and includes thoughtful touches. We had privacy while knowing our host was just across the road and incredibly responsive and helpful. Susan’s property has been lovingly curated for decades and each thoughtful touch merges beauty and function. She’s an excellent local guide and was friendly and welcoming. We would definitely return and, in fact, hope to, as there’s so much to see and do nearby that a weekend wasn’t long enough. Just hanging at the cabin was peaceful and I would love to devote a day to just doing that next time.

Cozy UP Sunset Cabin
Sunset cabin
I enjoyed my stay at sunset cabin. It is nestled in the woods and overlooks a lake. The sunsets over the lake were gorgeous. Across the property is a river with a private swimming area. Susan was very knowledgeable about her land. She gave me a tour and taught about edible and useful plants available on her land. This was a paid but private tour. Susan was a gracious and available host. I hope to return to cozy up sunset cabin.
