An exclusive-hire glamping site for six people in a Sussex woodland

Wyldewood Glamping is a lovely exclusive-hire site in Sussex, set in a seven-acre woodland. Part of what makes it so great are the facilities: table tennis, a slackline, and a hot tub among them. And the best bit? You don’t have to share them—and you won’t have to queue for the loo either. You'll have the entire place to yourselves, with space for two to sleep in a shepherd’s hut and for four more in an emperor bell tent.

Wyldewood is perfect for a family who want a glamping getaway with an extra couple (or couple of kids) in tow. It also works for a small group getaway with a handful of friends. Whoever you come here with, chances are, you won’t get bored. Kids will be happy bouncing about in a cargo net suspended in the trees, hours can be whiled away mastering the slackline or playing table tennis. And when evening falls, chatting around the campfire is a great way to end the day—plus there’s always a soak in the hot tub.

The top spot to sleep is arguably the shepherd’s hut, with its fold-down bed, wood burner, and galley kitchen. The big boho bell tent is the extra family-style accommodation: with a double bed and two singles. Ablutions are in another shepherd’s hut and very nice too. In fact it’s all very nice too: beds are made, towels provided, there’s charcoal for the barbecue and logs for the fire.

Let’s not forget where you are either. This woodland in the High Weald is full of wildlife, including deer, and bluebells cover the floor in spring. Just being here might be the break you need but there are countryside walks straight from your doorstep and a pub within walking distance too. Beyond the hyper local options, Sussex sights and attractions, including the sea, offer temptation to explore further afield. But, really, we feel this is a place to simply bed in and enjoy.

Speaking of beds, we’ve hardly mentioned where you actually stay. It’s all part of the deal that sees this place reserved just for you.

The Site consists of a luxury Modern Shepherds Hut, Emperor Bell tent, 5 Metre Luxury Bell Tent, Bathroom Shepherds Hut and Deluxe Wood-fired Hot Tub. ( with hydro massage bubbles, jets, and LED lighting!) ( coming soon for 2025 - Cold Plunge, Outdoor Shower and Wood-fired Sauna! ) The Modern Shepherds Hut is clad in standing seam zinc and fronted with shadow gap vertical larch cladding. The interior roof is gold leaf and has aluminium double-glazed windows. Internally, there is a fully stocked galley kitchen with an induction hob, fridge and microwave. The banquette seating converts into a king-sized bed with a memory foam mattress. In the seat boxes, you will find a multitude of games to keep the whole family entertained, from snakes and ladders, jigsaw puzzles, guess who and Twister. There is a bookshelf with a selection of outdoor-inspired books, including a camping cookbook, a hanging rail for those special items, and hooks to hang wet items after that long walk in the countryside. To keep you warm at night, there is a wood burner as well as a wall-hung oil-filled radiator. The Emperor Bell Tent and 5 Meter Bell Tent consist of a king-sized bed with a luxury hybrid mattress and 2x memory foam single mattresses. There is atmospheric lighting and sari bunting and Coir floor matting. All beds are set up with Egyptian cotton white linen, electric blankets and plenty of blankets to keep you warm at night. Each guest is provided with a soft white Large Bath Towel.

Woodland Glamping with Wild Spa

Great facilities. Wood fired hot tub was fab. Huge tent which kept us dry and cozy in heavy rain. Extra bed in the ‘hut’ which also contained the well equipped kitchen. Lovely hot shower and plenty of space for six of us. We had a power cut one of the days caused by a fallen tree so no power and had to listen to a chain saw most of Sunday which spoilt the ambience somewhat! The camp is adjacent to Imogen’s property in an area at the front of the house which I was not expecting. I thought it would be more isolated but it did have benefits when the loo needed emptying or we needed to get stuff from the car ! Overall a really lovely campsite and would defo recommend !

Woodland Glamping with Wild Spa

We had such a lovely break here: a beautiful, well-equipped site with toasty beds (even on cold October nights) and lots of family fun around the firepit, on the slackline, and building dens in the woods. Imogen was a very welcoming and super-helpful host. We're definitely glad that we spent a few days here, and we all came back feeling recharged.

Perfect outdoors experience for people without (having any intention of owning) camping equipment. A wonderful space to stay, with owls hooting over head and deer in the distance. Run by a great family, thoroughly recommend.

Six of us stayed her for the weekend to celebrate a birthday and despite the bad weather on the day we arrived, we had the most amazing time! The set up is amazing with easy access to parking, and all you can think of including a barbecue, coals, firelighters, cooking utensils, wood, kindling, fire pit, a hammock, a fully functioning bathroom, a beautiful shepherds hut, the most magnificent bell tent which felt like something out of a fairytale, boardgames… the list goes on. Overall great memories where made, the site had everything you could ask for and more, the hosts where incredibly attentive and made the entire weekend feel very relaxing. Would highly recommend to all.

Nearby attractions

Wyldewood Glamping has plenty of activities on site including a slackline, cargo net suspended in the trees, table tennis and a hot tub but should you wish to venture out, there is good walking straight from site too. A 45-minute walk around a nearby orchard is possible without setting foot on the road. The site is on the outskirts of the village of Cowbeech in East Sussex, three miles from Herstmonceux. Three miles further on is Herstmonceux Castle. Although the castle itself is not open to visitors, its garden and grounds are. Next door, you can also visit Herstmonceux Observatory Science Centre. Hailsham is the nearest town, also six miles away. Nearby, Knockhatch Adventure Park is a good place for a family day out as is the beach at Pevensey Bay (10 miles). Eastbourne lies a few miles further west, marking the start of the South Downs National Park. In the other direction is seaside Hastings (16 miles) with its mix of old town, art galleries and classic seaside attractions.

Food and drink

You can walk from Wyldewood Glamping on quiet country roads to the Merrie Harriers pub in Cowbeech (one mile) for good food and drinks. And if you don’t mind getting in the car, The Gun in Chiddingly (seven miles) is also recommended. It’s just up the road from the Gun Brewery and Tap Room too. There, you can enjoy local beers and pick up some to take back to site. For food to cook on site, the closest place, with both supermarkets and independent shops, is Hailsham, six miles away.
