Welcome to The Roost — a relaxed, small-scale campsite set within the meadows of Brook Farm, Wenhaston. Open skies, hedgerows, chickens wandering nearby, and space for families to slow down and enjoy summer as it should be The Roost, because you’re staying on a working smallholding — and our resident chickens inspired the name. Just like them, you’ll find your own little patch of meadow to settle into, wake with the sunrise, and wind down as the light fades across the fields. It’s camping with character. Within 15 minutes you’ll find: Seaside days in Southwold & Walberswick Wildlife adventures at RSPB Minsmere Coastal walks at Dunwich Heath & Beach The market towns of Halesworth & Saxundham And from the campsite itself? Quiet footpaths, big skies, and proper countryside calm Thorington Theatre, the outdoor idyllic woodland amphitheatre, a 15 minute walk Local pubs, The Star, a 5-10 minute walk The Bramfield Queen's Head or Blythburgh White Hart 30 minute walks Further Afield: Woodbridge, Saxmundham, Beccles & Bungay Beaches and fresh fish at Thorpeness, Aldeburgh or Orford Sutton Hoo: The Anglo Saxon royal burial site History at Framlingham Castle Africa Alive zoological reserve Pleasurewood Hills family theme park Peacefully rural. Small-scale pop-up Suffolk site at a farm in Wenhaston Southwold, Dunwich and Walberswick beaches within a 15-minute drive Barbecues, campfires and dogs welcome; village pub 10 minutes' walk Popping up just for Suffolk stays in the height of summer, The Roost is a laidback and small-scale site within the meadows of a farm on the edge of Wenhaston. With big open skies, chickens wandering nearby, hedgerows full of wildlife and plenty of space to chill out, this is a fabulous spot for a relaxed rural break – and with the added bonus of being able to walk to the village’s award-winning pub in about 10 minutes. Tucked away in the scenic Suffolk & Essex Coast & Heaths National Landscape, you’ll be able to get straight out onto quiet footpaths and lanes for a walk or bike ride easily enough, including routes that are suitable for any accompanying kids and dogs you’ve brought along. Alternatively, pile into the car for a trip to the coast (perhaps the beach in Southwold or the birdwatching hides at RSPB Minsmere) or a day out at a castle, a farm park or a theme park – they’re all within about 40 minutes’ drive. However you choose to spend your days, you should at some point stock up on supplies for a barbecue or campfire back on site – either make a lovely prelude to an evening of stargazing under the dark skies. You’ll also be able to freshen up with toilets and showers on site for guest use. Please note that parking is situated in our lower meadow with a short hill up to the main camping field. The camping is car free and offers unobstructed views of the Suffolk countryside and beautiful sunsets. Wheelbarrows are available to assist guests moving their equipment.

I booked a couple of nights because I wanted a base as I wanted to try and get some photos of the local red deer...The hosts were so helpful especially as I'd forgotten my camping pots and pans and they were kind enough to lend me some...The site was beautiful and very atmospheric with owls hooting and buzzards flying overhead...All in all a great site which I'll definitely be using again...Oh and I eventually managed to find my red deer stag too...Many thanks....😊👍

The Roost is a family and group friendly, well run campsite. Unfortunately when I booked for our group of 14 there was nothing describing the steep hill up to the camping meadow which was inaccessible to cars. Some of our group have back problems and other medical conditions and having all enjoyed camping trips together for over a decade we know our limitations. The couple who run the site were accommodating and offered us space in the campervan space below which we gratefully but with a hefty serving of disappointment accepted. The space consisted of a mown path around the outside of an area of unmowed and very uneven sodden grass full of nettles. We managed to spread our tents out along the mown strip but it did not create the ‘camp’ atmosphere we usually enjoy. If you are fit enough to push a full wheelbarrow of heavy camping gear up a steep slope I would recommend, otherwise stay well away! Additionally our teenagers really enjoyed the chickens and shooting hoops in the barn and the owners very kindly provided a pop up tent to one of our party when an air beam burst.

Lovely location 10 minutes walk from local pub, staff friendly and booking was easy. Some improvements needed on the toilet block. Some more toilets and showers would be great, one shower seemed quite a stretch for the amount of people. The lights in the bathroom were quite dim, in the night we needed additional torches to see. There was nothing to dry your hands on either. Chickens were so cute and friendly! The honesty shop was a nice addition which also had a couple sockets and kettle that could be used. The noise after 10pm rule wasnt enforced, the tent next to us were incredibly loud laughing and talking well past midnight (till maybe 2am) which kept us up.

Lovely little campsite, clean facilities and friendly hens! Small honesty shop, fridge and freezer available. Nice friendly pub within ten minutes walk. Great for a peaceful break. The only negative was no hand drier or paper towels available in the wash shed and could do with slightly better lighting in the toilets.

Genuinely a perfect campsite. A calm, peaceful setting surrounded by beautiful horses—I enjoyed every single moment of my stay. The seaside beach is also within easy reach, making it a great location. The hosts are incredibly kind, welcoming, and always happy to help. The toilet and shower facilities are spotless, with a standard of cleanliness you’d expect from a five-star hotel. One of the best surprises was the honesty shop, stocked with cold beer, drinks, and snacks—such a thoughtful touch. I highly recommend this campsite. If you’re looking for a peaceful, friendly, and exceptionally well-maintained place to stay, you won’t regret choosing it.
