When to go

Forestville isn't really reliant on tourism, so you’ll find most services operating the same hours year-round (except the tourism office—call to check in advance if you plan to stop in). If you are in the area to go out and observe whales, the best times to do so are from May through October. You’ll find the town busiest in July and August, and are then advised to book any activities in advance of arrival.

Know before you go

  • You’ll need a fishing licence to cast a fly at any of the parks or rivers in Quebec. This can easily be purchased online.
  • In the summer months, a ferry runs between Forestville and Rimouski across the St. Lawrence River.
  • Getting around Forestville without a car will be difficult, so consider taking a road trip.
  • Don’t expect everyone you encounter to speak English (though most tourism operators will have at least a basic understanding if they aren't fluent). Have a translation app ready on your phone to help you out as needed.
