Backwater Paradise

10 sites · RVs, Tents30 acres · Blind River, ON
Backwater Paradise has possibilities for several camping styles. whether you bring your own, easy tenting or choose to go deep and experience raw wilderness/survival at any season. Our new listing is called Left Field. Its raw bush and field space in the center. The main entrance is very well marked and leads to the lake. This is where RVs are able to access and where the easy tent sites are. All nature watchers and sky gazers will enjoy any space we have here. Moose, bald eagles. wolves, otters, beavers, owls and several species of migratory birds are common visitors. The country may have quiet nights but out here the bush can get very loud. We get whippoorwills, frogs and crickets all night. In the lake there is plenty of bass and pike to keep a fisher and kid fishers busy. Common gear will work here and strongly recommend using wire swivel leaders. We promote 'lake 2 plate' principles and if you need anything let us know!! All campers have use of the water front no matter where your site is. On the shore of the lake front is a very large common area and firepit for everyone to access and enjoy the water and shoreline. We host fires Friday and Saturday nights weather permitting in this space.. There are several firepit rings to allow campers to have their own fire and sell hardwood. We also have some small row boats available to rent, the latest addition is the paddle boat rental. There is 30 acres of mixed forest, lake and marsh here and now we are able to be open year round. Backwater Paradise can be discovered at 220 Lake Hope Road, Blind River, Ontario

Beach and dog-friendly camping near Elliot Lake guide

Overview

Set around a pristine lake that attracts fishing and watersport enthusiasts in summer, Elliot Lake also features 300 kilometers of looped ATV trails all within 30km of the city. A network of hiking trails also leads visitors to explore the varied terrains—mountains, lakeshore, boreal forest, and marshlands—and the huge variety of flora and fauna that inhabit them. In winter, it's best to hit the popular ski hill, where you'll find plenty of powder for crosscountry skiing and snowmobiling. Expect down-home cooking style restaurants and fast-food joints along with friendly pubs, plus gorgeous swimming beaches and several city parks while you're here.

When to go

The best time to camp in Elliot Lake is in summer and fall, when it's warm enough to enjoy lake activities. If you come before July, the blackflies can be brutal (and mosquitoes last into September). Pitching a tent in winter in Northern Ontario is for only the most extreme campers, so many parks (if they even offer services in this remote neck of the woods) are only open from May through October.

Know before you go

  • Don’t even think about travelling here unless you’re bringing or renting a vehicle. It’ll be impossible to get around without one.
  • Cell service can be patchy or non-existent in remote areas of Northern Ontario.
  • Elliot Lake has a Canadian Tire store, as well as several grocery stores, where you can stock up on camping gear and supplies for your trip.
  • There's a laundromat in Elliot Lake, and you can pick up free wifi at the city library.
