We are located in southern Oregon near Crater Lake NP, just off of hwy 62, part of the Rogue-Umpqua Scenic Byway, more commonly known as the "highway of waterfalls" and near the little town of Prospect on what is known as the beautiful side of Crater Lake NP. Three waterfalls, the Prospect Cafe, and the Historic Hotel are all within a two-mile radius. If you're after that famous pie at Beckie's Cafe, you are 10 minutes close.
Our 100 acre ranch allows us to host guests in their own RV's, at camp/tent sites, or in our new A-frame Cabin all located in private, and even secluded, sites. Several well maintained trails wind throughout the property and can be enjoyed by guests. Nature enthusiasts enjoy the hiking, wildlife viewing, and the beautiful ponds and woods.
Crater Lake Woodlands is part of the historic Katydid Ranch. Once owned by Boise Cascade who used it both for growing seedlings to replant logged mountain sides and as a vacation getaway for their executives, the story of Katydid Ranch goes back to the early 1900's when it's owner named "Katy" used it as the "half-way" overnight lodging for horse & buggy guests traveling to Crater Lake from the Rogue Valley. Leaving the valley at the crack of dawn, they could arrive at "Katy's" by nightfall, in time for a meal and sound mountain sleep. They'd hitch up at dawn and make it to Crater Lake by nightfall.
Historically, the first residents were the Rogue River Takelma and Latgawa native Americans. Latgawa lived in the Rogue Valley of interior southwest Oregon. In their own language "Latgawa" means "those living in the “uplands," though they were also known as the Walumskni by the neighboring Klamath tribes. Specifically, Ha-ne-sakh. The Latgawa were one of two peoples who spoke the Takelma language. They were hunters, gatherers, weavers and fished the Rogue River. They were known to have a stationary settlement and trading post at the Katydid Ranch location. Their tribes lived in the upper Rogue River area extending beyond Prospect and Union up to Crater Lake.
Since we've owned the Ranch, we've maintained the custom of welcoming overnight guests and at the same time, we continue to honor the protected wildlife designation given to it back in the 50's. Wildlife viewing is one the delights we share with our guests. Please be mindful of native wildlife keeping dogs on leash so as to avoid chasing and barking at wildlife. Thank you.
The animals here include, but are not limited to black tail deer, elk, fox, coyote, ringtailed cat, raccoon, skunk, and also typically farther up the mountain are the elusive mountain lions and black bear which we have never spotted on our property. The ponds and surrounding area are home to migratory to the Oregon Pond turtle, Canada geese, quail, wild turkeys, various owls including the great horned owls, hawks, cranes and eagles. Our pond bird watcher friends spotted Common Mergansers, Ring Necked Ducks, Canada Geese…and a Loon. The bull frogs orchestrate the evening and can be heard at times throughout the day. Katydid Ranch is a wildlife sanctuary.
The flora and fauna of the forest is abundant and diverse. This land is home to many native grasses, ferns, and berries, wild flowers, as well as many other edible and medicinal plants and numerous varieties of mushrooms. If you are visiting during blackberry season, feel free to pick, pick, pick and indulge.
Katydid trees include old growth Douglas Fir, Ponderosa, Sugar, and Jeffrey Pine, various Cedar tree varieties, Incense Cedar, the majestic Pacific Madrone, Alder, Big Leaf Maple, Black and White Oak, Dog wood, and Vine Maple. Power has recently been going out more frequently due to the Pacific Power's "advanced safety settings". When the power is out the well pump is out, so there is no water. I am happy to provide buckets of river water for "flushing toilets" and pay for showers at the Klamoya Travel Center. I will not be giving refunds for a situation over which I have no control.

Our property has been in business in one way or another for over 70 years. The stick built cabins are pre 1950's and no one really knows for sure how old they truly are. We are located on Fort Creek named after the creek that ran through Fort Klamath. Fort Creek is a beautiful 30' wide meandering creek that runs the length of the property north to south. We offer free use of our Old Town Canoes to paddle along it's extent and on up creek to a beaver damn. There is a fun hiking trail that runs over two bridges that span the creek, one covered and one floating. We also offer free catch and release fishing, there are Rainbow and Brown Trout in our waters.
Fort Klamath is the birthplace and home of the US Army 1st Cavalry and our property is located on the the Forts Southeastern grounds. We are 9 miles from the southern border of the National Park and 23 miles from the southern Rim and Rim Village.

We live off site, so we will not be there to greet you. Completely independent camping/ site access and check in. We try and Avoid redundant information and excessive communication to create a more authentic camping experience.

Welcome to ten acres of open pasture and mixed forest tucked into the hills just outside Glide, Oregon. The land feels spacious yet protected — bordered by trees and crossed by a spring-fed creek that runs year-round through the property.
The creek is shallow in most places, clear and cool, with smooth stones along the bottom. In one bend it widens into a natural swimming hole that stays refreshing through the heat of summer. You can hear the water moving from much of the property steady and calming. A rustic wooden suspection bridge crosses the creek and leads to four tent sites on the far side. Once you cross the bridge, it feels separate — quieter, more tucked in, with filtered light through the trees and a sense of being immersed in nature.
The tent sites are spaced for privacy and simplicity. You wake to birdsong and bubbling crrek sounds. Evenings bring shifting light across the pasture, frogs near the water, and a wide, dark sky once the sun drops behind the trees.
On the main side of the property there is a designated RV site with easy access and open sky above. It sits comfortably within the landscape while remaining separate from the tent sites across the creek.
There is an outdoor shared living room modified carport and one communal fire-pit, where social interactions can be curated with ice breakers and treats.
The 199 sq. ft. yurt sits in the garden area. It has its own small yard space, a short porch, a queen bed, and a simple table and chair. It is uncluttered and comfortable — a quiet place to sleep while still feeling close to the outdoors. The surrounding garden changes with the season, bringing fresh green growth in spring, warmth and fullness in summer.
Friendly horses, goats and chickens live on the property and are accustomed to visitors. They often come near the fence line, curious and calm. You may hear them moving in the pasture or calling softly to one another in the early morning. Their presence adds to the pastoral rhythm of the land without interrupting the quiet.

I had an excellent stay at the Umpqua National Forest Resort Campground. The location is one of its strongest features—it's perfectly situated near some of the most beautiful and iconic spots in the area. Within a short drive, you can visit Watson Falls, Toketee Falls, and the incredible Umpqua Hot Springs. Having such easy access to these destinations made the experience even more enjoyable and convenient.
The campground itself is well maintained, peaceful, and offers a great balance of comfort while still being immersed in nature. The cabins and facilities were clean, and the overall atmosphere made it easy to relax after a full day of exploring.
One improvement I would recommend is creating a more clearly designated and easier-to-follow path to the bathhouse, especially at night. Additionally, it would be great if the exterior lights around the cabins and common facilities were dimmed or turned off earlier in the evening. The bright lights stayed on late into the night, which made stargazing difficult. Given how incredible the night sky is in this area, preserving that dark-sky experience would make the stay even more special.
Overall, this is an outstanding campground in an unbeatable location. I would absolutely stay here again and highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Umpqua National Forest.

Weekend Trip to Ruby’s Cabin
We loved Jay's well thought out cabin. Everything was stocked well, clean and cute. Next time we are only bringing food and clothes, and our dogs.
Our dogs played ball in the front yard off leash and had a blast. We played board games and got the peace and quiet we much needed. Many trails on the property to walk. Many forest service roads and places to explore. There is a binder in the cabin with really good local information including swimming holes. We definitely want to return.

Great place. I used the cabin to stay warm in the cold November time. Amazing host - explained and had an excellent map to catch all the waterfalls and mile markers. The site is great - extremely close to bathrooms and shower which are super warm inside and water. Small little cabin for the night but has loads of extras. Microwave and little fridge as needed.

I have no notes - Umquilla's Last Resort checked all my boxes at every step: my dog and I loved it. Our cute mini-cabin had energy-efficient heat, microwave, and fridge allowing more food diversity than I usually get on my annual Thanksgiving trip. The bed was comfortable and as a single traveler with a dog: the bunk bed gave us a lot of extra room to stretch out.
The showers, restrooms, and dish washing area were spotless and warm. The staff was happy, kind, and showed visible support for LGTBQIA+ travelers.
My dog loved that we could hike in the national forest without getting in the car which conveniently could charge via the EV charging station in the campgrounds. I mostly explored between the campsite and I-5 due to there being a charger at the campground and dozens of options in Roseberg (or on my trip in via I-5 South a good high-speed charger in Sutherlin.)
Self-service paid internet access (24h, 72h, and 5 day options) provided suitable bandwidth for unexpected video calls and web browsing.
It was all perfect, worked well, easy to spot from the road, and in a beautiful region with lots of activities. A true oasis for travelers just an hour east of I-5.

Weekend Trip to Umpqua's Last Resort
I absolutely loved staying here in my deluxe cabin! It was the perfect personal retreat I needed, the cabin was super clean and cozy, nice fluffy bath towels and the Wolfgang Puck coffee pods were a treat! The park was quiet and at night I could hear the river from my cabin, there is a nice trail down to the river and I was able to spend time by the river in the evening. The location is so close to many waterfalls! Toby and Dustin are super nice hosts! The shared restrooms were clean and the showers hot! I loved the small trails to wander on next to the park. I cant wait to return as this will be my place to stay this coming year, thank you for providing such a nice place to have a get away from the world! My only request would be to allow for a late check out if needed but I ended up leaving early to see more waterfalls!

About
Spread out over nearly a million acres on the western side of the Cascade Mountain Range, Umpqua National Forest is home to some of Oregon's most spectacular examples of natural beauty, including one of the state's biggest attractions: crystalline Crater Lake. Here you'll find a mix of rolling hills, thick woodlands, powerful rivers, and plenty of waterfalls. While the forest’s abundance of beauty is certainly reason enough to visit, it’s also a prime setting for plenty of outdoor activity, from hiking, mountain biking, and good old camping, to kayaking and fishing in the region’s lakes and waterways.
Notable campgrounds
- Best for active campers: Diamond Lake Campground offers hundreds of campsites, plus boat ramps, showers, cycling trails, and a fish-cleaning station.
- Best for fishing trips: Hemlock Lake Campground gives anglers easy access to excellent trout fishing at Hemlock Lake.
- Best for a ghost town experience: Devil’s Flat Campground offers three campsites next to a century-old ranger cabin and horse barn.
Tips for snagging a campsite
- Reservable sites, including cabins and yurts, can be reserved up to six months in advance over the phone or on the National Forest Service website. Note that new sites are released at 7am Pacific, and popular spots can fill up almost instantly.
- Arrive early, and if possible mid-week. Many Umpqua National Forest campsites are made available on a first-come, first-served basis. You’ll have your best chances snagging a site if you can arrive on a Wednesday or Thursday, before the weekend rush.
- Ask at the ranger’s station about last-minute cancellations or suggestions. Rangers tend to have a good idea about availability during crowded times and are there to help.
When to go
The Umpqua National Forest is at its busiest during the summer vacation months (mid-June through early September), though you may find snow at the grounds in higher elevations well into July. If you want to beat the crowds but still take advantage of warmer and dryer weather, consider coming during the week after Labor Day, after kids have gone back to school. Just be aware that this is also wildfire season, and last-minute closures are a possibility.
Know before you go
- Fire danger in the Umpqua National Forest is a real threat, particularly in the dry, hot, summer months. Keep an eye out for advisories and keep in mind that bans on campfires and the use of camp stoves may be in place during your stay.
- Don’t rely on your GPS alone. It’s a good idea to plan your route before you head out, and to double check with the forest service about any road closures due to snow, landslides, or planned maintenance.
- Bring plenty of water. Many sites in the Umpqua National Forest are primitive and you may not have access to potable water.

We stayed just up the road from here at the group site called Steamboat Ball Field. It’s a very rustic site with an open field and a picnic shelter. Surrounded by a lush and vibrant green old-growth forest, this is a great place for a family reunion or large gathering. Be warned though, it fills up quick! You must reserve many months in advance, but it’s worth it. About 20 miles East is Umpqua Hot Springs, the perfect day trip from this spot. It has 8 hot pools cascading over a cliff into the Umpqua River, much like an infinity pool. This place is busy too, so avoid peak times, but do make the journey as it is a truly magical place.

Camped here on a road trip from California. Visited Crater lake and headed to this campsite on my way to Portland the next day. Wow was I blown away by the beauty, the sunrise was unreal. I woke up to a gigantic mountain with fresh snow on top. The campsite was easy to find with great bathrooms and showers.

Heavily wooded, spaced out campsites make this place special. You get privacy, and if you aren't lucky enough to get a campsite on the lake it's a short walk from all the campsites. Make sure to get there before check-in closes around 8 though, and it is a drive to get to the showers. Very close to crater lake, but if you enter at popular times there is a car backup at the entryway. Would recommend!

Insane amounts of mosquitos. Jumping in the (kindof gross) lake was the only escape!
We got lucky and got the last spot here on a Saturday on a summer afternoon. Nice sites. Tons of RVs...expect the hum of generators to cut through the serenity of nature starting around 7:30am.
Very good hiking nearby. Definitely not a bad spot to pitch a tent for a night or two.

We were on a driving mission down the PCH and finding camp spots along the way. Nestled amongst the trees Horseshoe Bend was a special kind of campground; quiet, foresty, with only the sound of the river running through. There's nothing fancy about this campground, but it does have decent fire pits and picnic tables to put on a good camp dinner.

The mosquitos will literally eat you alive during the summer here. The marshes and creeks that surround the lake make perfect grounds for the vermin. Make sure to bring plenty of repellant.
