Camping near Alexandria guide

Overview

Minnesota is widely known as the “Land of 10,000 Lakes” for good reason—and Alexandria is a testament to that reputation, offering miles upon miles of lakeside camping opportunities. Lake Carlos State Park is about 10 miles north of Alexandria, where you can spot white-tailed deer and snapping turtles amid the park’s hardwood forests and wetlands. Plus, drive-in electric sites for RVs offer amenities like picnic tables, seasonal flush toilets, and a dump station. The lakeside campground also offers easy access to a boat launch for largemouth bass fishing. South of town, Glacial Lakes State Park is an equally compelling regional park with tent sites and RV camping—full hookup sites accommodate RVs up to 45 feet in length. Enjoy the swimming beach, picnic area, and fishing pier at the day-use area by Signalness Lake. Or, explore 16 miles of hiking trails, including the moderately challenging High Peak Lake Trail with a pond crossing, while looking out for dragonflies, red-winged blackbirds, and great egrets.
