RV camping near Breckenridge guide

Overview

Just 10 miles south of Interstate 70 as it cuts through the Rocky Mountains, picturesque Breckenridge is easy to access for RVers heading west from Denver. This former gold-mining town attracts outdoor enthusiasts and history buffs—most of downtown is a National Historic District. Known as the home of Breckenridge Ski Resort, the kid-friendly town is just as busy in summer as it is in winter, so to avoid the crowds, consider fall, when the weather is crisp but the Aspen trees wow. Natural attractions abound, from kayaking on Lake Dillon to biking along the Blue River to endless hiking in the Tenmile Range and White River National Forest. Tip: head to popular trailheads like McCullough Gulch or Quandary Peak (one of Colorado's "14ers") in the early morning to snag a parking spot. RV sites are hard to find in Breckenridge itself; you’ll have better luck near Lake Dillon and Frisco, about 15 minutes north, where many RV sites have amenities such as hookups, dump stations, free wifi, and more.
