This is a unique 5-acre piece of land, surrounded by National Forest and located at the North Cottonwood Trailhead (which access Mount Harvard, Mount Columbia, Brown's Pass, Kroenke Lake, Bear Lake, and Anglemeyer Lake). The river flows directly through the property, so you can fall asleep to the sound of running water. This is an ideal spot to stay for anyone looking to get up for an early morning 14er or fishing hike. Feel like you are in the middle of nowhere, while being at a trailhead and just a 15 minute drive from Buena Vista. There is an antique fire burning stove to warm the cabin, as well as a propane cooking stove. We supply dishes and cooking utensils. You will need a code to enter the gate. After that, you can drive 0.1 miles, right up to the cabin. It is a bumpy road to get to the trailhead, where you find the gate. Four wheel drive is encouraged, in the instance of snow or heavy rain. During the winter, you will likely only be able to drive within 1.5-3 miles of the cabin. Snowshoes and cross country skis are perfect to get you there, in the instance that you park a ways away. There is no electricity, so bring lanterns and headlamps. There is an outhouse just a short walk from the cabin. Only two people can stay in this cabin at a time. Since we have an outhouse, it can only sustain so many visitors.Enjoy this unique 5 acre piece of land, surrounded by Forest Service land. Once you enter our privater gate, you will drive across a bridge and park near the cabin. This recently renovated log cabin has a king bed, sheets, pillows, and down blankets. There is an outhouse on the property and two portable toilets at the trailhead (just a short walk from the land). We have a small, simple kitchen with cooking utensils, a kettle, pots, plates and a propane stove. Other than the river flowing through the property for you to swim and bathe in, there is no running water. A water bladder with a filter is provided. There is an antique, wood burning stove in the cabin to keep you extra cozy through the night. We have chopped some wood to be used in the indoor fireplace (please just collect wood from the property for any outdoor campfires). During the winter, you may need to hike, ski, or snowshoe in to the property. This is typically only 1-3 miles, depending on the capability of your vehicle.

Loved the way the creek runs around you. The old stove ran so well. Plenty of firewood. Nice and peaceful! It was hard to leave.

Property is lovely and the Cabin is perfect for a few days off grid. Very clean and neat. Hiking trails literally right outside your door. The sound of the river is tranquil.

Rustic Cabin, Remote yet Close
The Columbia Cabin is a perfect spot for anyone that wants a great space away from a bunch of other people, don’t mind a more rustic cabin experience, and wants to be in a gorgeous setting. We came up for our anniversary weekend and stayed 4 days, 3 nights. The cabin is up the North Cottonwood Creek Trailhead road, a 5-mile dirt road adventure and not the main highway that goes over Cottonwood Pass (which I mistakenly thought). That said, once still relatively close to Buena Vista (a 30-minute drive when conditions are good). It’s close enough to the trailhead yet still is/feels secluded, and we were able to let our dog run around (which isn’t usual since he’s reactive towards other dogs). The cabin’s wood stove keeps the place nice and toasty, the propane stove made cooking easy, and the king-bed had us both comfortably sleeping in way past when we normally do at home. Don’t get me wrong - it’s definitely not what I’d consider to be glamping- but more like a roughing-it cabin experience. No running water, no electricity, and the heat from the stove only lasts as long as you have fuel in it. But with the creek running alongside the cabin, the beautiful aspen shimmering in gold, and being able to be disconnected from the outside world, it was a great getaway spot for us.
