Conductor's Corner Campsites

3 sites · RVs1 acre · Folkston, GA
Call us bias, but there’s nothing better than small town life. When the "blue roof cottage by the tracks" (yes, it used to have a unique blue roof) hit the market in early 2021, we knew it had to be ours! We purchased it & flipped it into a vacation home for guests of Folkston .. and The Conductor's Corner was born. Because we are also avid RV'ers, we thought what better way to finish off our corner than to add a few first-class RV sites to accommodate the camping community. We hope you enjoy your stay on our corner! In a small town in the south, where the Okefenokee Swamp runs deep and railfans thrive, the Conductor’s Corner stands out. The Conductor’s Corner features 3 premium RV sites directly on the rail lines of the Folkston Funnel. This railfan's dream neighbors the Folkston Railfan Train Platform. The spacious concrete pads are perfect for a night of watching trains under the stars. 20x50 concrete pads with 30/50 amp power, water, sewer, Wifi & picnic tables. A quick 3 minute walk from the Conductor’s Corner will lead to the heart of Main Street where visitors will find a plethora of hidden treasures: coffee shops, boutiques, local eateries, the Train Museum and so much more. Guests could spend a day exploring the habitats and waterways of the Okefenokee Swamp or take a short drive to neighboring communities such as Cumberland Island, Savannah, Golden Isles or Amelia Island or Jacksonville in Florida. All the comforts of home and the utmost southern hospitality are included in your stay on our corner. The Conductor's Corner also includes a vacation cottage available for rent (sleeps 6).

The best camping near Jekyll Island State Park guide

Overview

About

Jekyll Island is a 5,700-acre barrier island on Georgia’s Atlantic coast. Part of the Sea Islands chain, it features 10 miles of beach, salt marshes teaming with wildlife, and warm emerald waters perfect for swimming, kayaking, and paddle boarding. The sole Jekyll Island Campground is on the island’s north end, with 179 campsites under a canopy of live oak trees draped in Spanish moss. Driftwood Beach is a half-mile from the campground, while the park also houses 24 miles of trails for hikers and bikers to explore. The island, which is a combined park, commercial, and residential area, is also home to a Historic District, the Georgia Sea Turtle Center, Summer Waves Water Park, a marina, and several golf courses.

Tips for snagging a campsite

  • All Jekyll Island campsites can be reserved 13 months (369 days) in advance.
  • Reservations can be made online or by calling (912) 635-3021.
  • Book extra early for the summer season, especially from Memorial Day to Labor Day, when the island swells with visitors.

When to go

Jekyll Island's subtropical climate makes for good camping year-round. Summer offers warm but busy beach days (and sea turtle sightings), while winter can be quiet and serene, with highs in the 60s and lows in the 40s. The ideal time to visit Jekyll Island State Park is during the spring and fall when the weather is mild and the natural beauty is at its peak, though spring break is another busy time. Summer and fall visitors should keep an eye on the Atlantic hurricane forecast before their trip.

Know before you go

  • All of Jekyll Island was once a designated state park, but now it operates as a hybrid park and a mixed commercial/residential area under the Jekyll Island Authority.
  • The island has seven main beaches to explore. Driftwood Beach—famous for its assemblage of skeleton-like driftwood trees—is close to the campground. Sand Dunes Beach Park has 20-foot dunes, while St. Andrew’s Beach Park on the island’s south end is a great spot to look for seabirds and dolphins.
  • Jekyll Island amenities include bars and restaurants, pickleball courts, a tennis center, a museum, sightseeing tours, airboat rides, and fishing charters.
  • The island is a renowned birding location that sees frequent traffic from travelers on the Atlantic Flyway.
