Up Shit creek, Cabin
Great little spot!
I booked this because I wanted to be in the woods near the coast, but I wasn’t sure if it would be raining or cold in early April so wanted to be in a cabin with insulation.
It was great! Thor was a great host- got me settled in, showed me everything including the small wood burning stove, which because it was low to mid 50’s he had thoughtfully lit in preparation of me arriving. (In case you never used one keep the cups of water on it, keeps the air from getting dry). More on Thor and fires- he regularly lit campfires, did a lot of wood chopping which I didn’t expect.
The next morning we got beautiful eggs from the chickens that wander around… and they’re quite interested in what you’re cooking at the campfire, and that’s difficult to forget when you’re cooking their delicious eggs!
He welcomes dogs, but make sure your dog does not have prey drive. My herding dog wanted to sniff the rooster but when I told him to “leave it”, he just started being scared of that thing almost as tall as him that was screaming a lot, haha! The wandering chickens and rooster were a big part of what I liked.
Ice property, I’d love to be able to have something remotely like that some day.

Up Shit creek, Cabin
Epic!
Thor was amazing and very accommodating! The site was so beautiful and right near a creek. We saw his lovely chickens and discovered newts! We stayed overnight in the cabin and were kept warm by a lovely fireplace. Please do not pass up on this location it is worth every penny!! Will be coming again in the summer. Thank you so much for your hospitality, Thor!!

Thor was very responsive on the Hipcamp app about accurate directions/address and general questions we had before arriving. He made us an amazing fire our first night which we thoroughly enjoyed! The site is as described in his listing. It was cool to see his chicken coop and many of the projects he was working on, but since there were a lot of sharp tools around, I would be careful about bringing small children here; we were totally fine with it and I thought it was cool seeing stuff in progress. Otherwise cool spot! We moseyed down to the creek and saw some newts, and the cute little down was super close by car in case we needed anything else.

Hidden SC gem 🐓🔥🌲🏕️🦎
WeI stayed here as a group of three relatively inexperienced camper girls and our trip was so amazing. Leaving it we all felt very capable because (with the help of Thor) we learned to make and cook over a big fire and deal with pouring pouring rainy conditions while still having a fabulous time. The highlight of our trip was getting a glimpse into the lifestyle of a homesteader who is turning his land into a really awesome place. We loved collecting eggs from the chickens in the morning and then cooking them. The eggs were the best eggs we have ever eaten! We got to sit by the creek that is right at the campsite and even saw a newt!!! The location has infinite hikes nearby. We did a six mile hike that was about 15 minutes away called the Alma and Redwood Springs loop where we saw many pretty wildflowers and old growth redwoods. We recommend Alltrails to find the right hike for you. There was even a bit of wifi on the site which was awesome. Definitely will be coming back and are so so excited to see how the land evolves over the years. Thank you so much 😊
