Private Farm Minutes to Cville

6 sites · RVs, Tents55 acres · Charlottesville, VA
This was a 55-acre farm, split in half to accommodate a bypass through Charlottesville, so the previous owners had to give up half the land, and actually moved the house down to the other half of the property! They had to build a land bridge to get to the new home site, so they turned the bridge into a dam and created a beautiful large swimming pond, complete with beach and gazebo. My wife Stephanie and I bought the property in early 2017 and have turned it into a private horse farm, adding pastures, a riding ring, and 6-stall barn. There are ~21 horses who live on the property. The property is unique in that you can hardly see another house from anywhere on the property and yet we are only 2 miles from Barracks Rd. Shopping Center, and 4 miles from the University of Virginia.

Rob's Land

7 sites · RVs, Tents5 acres · Massanetta Springs, VA
Enjoy the peaceful sound of a swift running creek, from each of our campsites. Nearby, you'll find the Massanutten Resort, as well as the stunning Shenandoah National Park and Skyline Drive. The Swift Run entrance to Shenandoah National Park is only 15 miles away on Virginia Route 33. Each campsite is equipped with a picnic table for your convenience. Hawks and other wildlife can be spotted on the property, including deer - we counted 15 at one time in April. Ducks and geese also call the creek home. Our camping area is limited to 5 acres, but you're welcome to canoe on the Shenandoah or Rivanna Rivers. Additionally, there are plenty of nearby hiking trails in Shenandoah National Park or the George Washington National Forest. For a fun day trip, head West to Seneca Rocks. The surrounding farming area of Rockingham County offers plenty of scenic country roads for cycling. All campers must be self-sufficient with their own camp toilet and take all waste with them when they depart. This is a primitive campground. Each campsite has a picnic table and a fire ring. There is no electric, no water, no bathroom or shower facitlty.

Arcadia Sanctuary

15 sites · Lodging, RVs, Tents83 acres · Buena Vista, VA
Arcadia is the name we gave to our 83-acre mountainside retreat center for Earth-Based Spirituality. It’s nestled on the south-eastern slope of 4000-foot Mount Pleasant in Central Virginia, convenient to I81. (Note, there is a town called Arcadia off I81, but that is not us. Not to confuse.) We have a mountain creek with waterfalls, towering Beech and Sycamore trees, Witch Hazels leaning over the water, trout, crayfish, snakes, salamanders, and all the rest. We have about 2000 feet of the vertical mountainside with trails to explore. (But the stage and most of the camping is down closer to creek-level.) There are more sites higher up the mountain if you like more isolated camping. More of a trek to the bathrooms/showers/freshwater. We have one of the finest private stages on the East Coast with a top-notch sound system and a natural amphitheater which is like a single pie wedge of a Stadium that has regular live performances throughout the spring, summer, and fall. Our yurt is regularly booked as a unique glamping experience. There are chickens, ducks, turkeys, and guinea fowl free-roaming. Two dogs, nine cats, and several humans are blessed to call this home.

HELLO EVERYONE. May 2024. Spring is here, it's wonderful in the Shenandoah valley. We have done some upgrades, added a small water garden pond, and a large garden, some small fruit trees, raspberries, and blueberries. Last October we had a large group of permaculture students that was very satisfied. We will be expanding and developing in 2024, and add a large popup camper as one site.. FORGET YOUR TENT ? we have a few here you may borrow one, for extra 5 dollars. We also plan to add a nice fire pit, for people to gather around. Lots of open space here so campfires are ok. We welcome guests to our small and charming location 1413 Cold Spings Road, Stuarts Draft, VA. Near Waynesboro. Weather permitting, if you want to come during our " off " season, contact us, perhaps we can host you. We are in a rural area, not far from a town, and on a lovely scenic road with no streetlight or stop lights.. Nearby are the Blue Ridge hills, Appalachian trail, Serando Lake State park, many streams and some national forest. We have space for 2 motorhomes up to 25 feet, with electric and several spaces for small RVs, tent, or trailer There is ample room here for a dozen tent sites so if you have a group, contact us. We can work something out. One tent location has direct access to electric and water. All guests may use the roomy, well lit workshop building for charging phones or social activity, reading, basic food preparation. There is a small refrigerator, microwave, and camp stove available, and a toaster and coffee maker. There is a woodstove in the building as well, for chilly nights. Land is mostly level we are in a recreational area, only 9 miles from Lake Sherando park. We are particularly fond of the musically inclined, since the host plays guitar. So bring your instruments. And we love nature enthusiasts, homesteaders, bushwhackers, bicyclists, road trippers...........Come here to practice your camping or homesteading skills. Lots of trails nearby. We have a small library of books about outdoor recreation, native plants and creatures, gardening, and property maintenance, DIY........ We also have a bunch of board games guests may use. Fat Owl Farm

1 site · Lodging4 acres · Stanardsville, VA
Share space on our small mountain homestead in the Appalachians. Stay in a tiny cabin with deck space and outdoor food prep area. Double bed for two guests and a repurposed sleeper-sofa mattress as a trundle on the floor under the bed that can be moved out (or a guest could sleep on the porch sofa which is a futon, if the weather is good and they use a mosquito net that we provide). Drinking water provided. Chicken, ducks, dogs and cats on the farm. Our homestead is located up a steep gravel road and though the property is secluded, the cabin is near the main house. It is a Family atmosphere and a living farm so there will be noise from domestic and wild animals. Unplug and reconnect with Nature. No Wi-Fi or electricity, but a mini solar panel charges a light and can charge cell phones. Be aware there are snakes and spiders; creepy crawlers of all types. We are a chemical free property, please don’t bring toxins onto the site (this includes chemical bug sprays). We’ll help remove critters as needed. Elevation 1200ft; we’re 1/4 mile from Shenandoah National Park. Guided hikes and farm tours available (for a fee) if interested! We also have eggs for sale when our chickens are laying.Come stay in a secluded, relaxed environment where you can unplug and reconnect with Nature. Take naps, sit by the campfire, quietly read or meditate without being attached to your daily gadgets. Take in the mountain air and allow yourself to balance mind, body and spirit. My husband and I first lived on this property shortly after marrying 17 yrs ago, we moved to AK and back in 2013 and have been building our homestead from the ground up ever since. We love this mountain and consider our home a Beautiful Magical Place! We daily connect with the glorious natural elements surrounding us and give thanks constantly. We’ve learned a lot over the years about living with The Land and want to share this space with like-minded others. We tend to “rise with the Sun, and sleep when it’s done”, so don’t be surprised if you see David or myself, or our kids playing/working on site. If you like to chat, we’re usually available, if you like your privacy, we respect that too. There are a handful of neighbors, and sometimes cars travel up or down the road, but generally this is a quiet, peaceful area. Our two old time scotch collies keep most wildlife away, but once in a while you get a glimpse of turkey, or hawks, rabbits, etc…. Hiking and exploring the woods is welcome, but don’t stray to the neighbors We recently acquired a rare chicken breed, Scots Dumpies, and are trying to increase the flock, so there may be a chance to see baby chicks. The Stars do their thing on clear nights and are an amazing sight with the near zero light pollution. We love to view the stars and Moon in all her phases. We try to keep your need to bring much to a minimum, so we provide plenty of blankets and pillows ( or sleeping bag if desired), dishes and some cookware for over-the-fire meals, towels and wash cloths if a rain barrel “cat bath” is in order :), hand soap and toilet paper too! Life is in constant fluctuation up here at our mountain home, which is how we like it! Camp out with us and see why!
