This is a unique opportunity to get “off the grid” without having to make those ‘off the grid’ sacrifices. At Camp Moondog, our philosophy is to offer a carefree, clean, natural environment for a relaxing camping vacation experience. We will be happy to use our ATV's to assist with getting your supplies to any of the campsites--just shoot us a message on the app if you need help! My wife and I moved to the area, from Boone, in the spring of 2014. Our dream was to own a house, preferably a cabin, on top of a mountain with long range views and a gradual winding road to the top. Living in Boone, this dream was definitely out of reach. When we began our search for a new home in the Asheville area, we discovered that the more affordable homes were in fact on the mountains. Perfect! In general I always have a pretty positive outlook on what’s possible, however, I was skeptical that we would ever find our dream home. As Jeannie began her Zillow browsing adventures, one particular cabin with acreage, that was outside of our budget continued to pop up. Jeannie would delete it and then it would come back. At some point the price began to drop, and drop, and drop. On our way back into town one weekend after attending a wedding, I convinced Jeannie to drive by the cabin just because we had the time. Immediately we fell in love and reached out to our realtor buddy. It was more of a shot in the dark but it couldn’t hurt, right? We held our breath for the next month totally expecting someone to get it under contract before us or the sellers not accepting our offer. It had already been reduced significantly so we knew our chances of a lowball offer were slim. We offered the most that we could get a loan for. They accepted! I still get anxious thinking back to that month, October 2014. Many years and two children later, here we are, just as excited everyday to make the long trek up our mountain as we were that August of 2014, and now we are happy to offer a similar experience to you, without having to buy the place. Turgua brewery just down on Cane Creek road is only 6.2 miles from camp. Cane Creek Valley Farm as well as the Cane Creek Community swimming pool is also at the base of camp just in case the kids need a dip of ice cream or a dip in the pool. Justus Apple Orchard is only 10 miles down the mountain towards Hendersonville. We love taking our kids there. We are only 15 miles from downtown Asheville & Hendersonville, and 22 miles from Lake Lure. This property is situated on 50 acres, surrounded by private property with views of the nearby Pisgah National Forest and a 10 minute drive to DuPont State Forest. Campsites are adjacent to the French Broad River. Excellent fishing and boating. It is heavily populated by deer and other wildlife. For this reason, dogs must be kept on a leash. Due to the property proximity to the river and situated in floodway, the sites are subject to flooding during heavy rain events. Voluntary and/or mandatory evacuation may be necessary during any reservation due to high waters or forecast for high water events. If evacuation is necessary, unused portions of reservation will be refunded. Campers are advised to be self-sufficient with water and shower facilities. We do provide a port a potty and firewood is for sale on site (Venmo, PayPal or cash). IF YOU ARE CAMPING WITH A RV OR TRAILER, PLEASE CONTACT US TO DISCUSS A SITE. All sites can accommodate smaller RV camper units. However, larger RV's have limited site availability. Campsites are situated along the river edge. Embankments are steep and near deep water. Although not prohibited, constant supervision for children is a must to avoid serious injury due to natural hazards. The winter months you'll enjoy a sea of green as our cover crop takes over the field. You can cool off in the river, or check out the surrounding Pisgah National Forest. Dogs on leashes are welcome and owner is responsible for cleaning up after pet. The farm provides a portable toilet but no other amenities. Campfires may be restricted, so check local regulations. This is a working farm, so please be respectful of the crops and workers and keep dogs on leashes. Fishing is not allowed in the river. Please note, if it’s rainy, the roads will be muddy and 4-wheel-drive vehicles are the best option. Head 4 miles east to the town of Mills River for restaurants, stores, and services. You can find hiking, biking, and horseback-riding trails within a short bike or car ride in Pisgah National Forest. Chimney Rock State Park is 25 miles east and offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountain scenery. Or perhaps go for a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. In 2013 I decided to live life differently and start from the ground up building with natural materials and found materials. At that time I was fortunate enough to have the land passed to me and I started building a home for myself and to be close to my mothers home nearby. After achieving the basics I decided that the best use of this beautiful land was to create a place for people to relax and enjoy, a park like environment dedicated to preserving natural beauty and amplifying it through a permaculture lifestyle. 8 years later I am blown away at how far the dream has become a reality and love sharing my space with people from all over the country.

Make some memories at this unique and family-friendly place. Completely remodeled January of 2022. Our cabin sits on 20 acres with beautiful mountain views. Away from the hustle and bustle, but only 30 minutes to Asheville, and close to shopping, restaurants, hiking, rafting, waterfalls, and much, much more! Enjoy getting away as a couple, or with the kids. Just steps away from our game room with pool, ping pong, foos ball, air hockey, darts, and exercise room. Come pet the animals! This 1 room cabin includes 1 King bed, pullout queen sofa, large comfy chair, dining table for 4, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, grill, picnic table, fire pit, cooking essentials, towels, and linens. This cabin is next to a bathhouse. There is a mens and womens restroom. Both restrooms are equipped with 6 showers, 4 stalls, and 8 sinks. You will have complete access to restrooms and showers. You will also have access to the gameroom and exercise room. Across from the cabin is a large pasture and our animals.

Serenity on the Saluda

Just a small piece of God's creation right on the Saluda River. Come and enjoy the solitude and serenity of this spot on the Saluda River, surrounded by thousands of acres of forests and farms. Camp on the river, in the field or overlook the river from the high bluff in the old growth forest. The gravel road going down to the river is finished, I drive my Honda Civic down daily and no issues (very low clearance). Kayaking from Holiday Dam to the camp site is incredible. The trip takes about 3.5 hours with lots of shoals and rapids. You can also kayak or tube from the camp site to Erwin Mill bridge in a little over an hour. This is more of a river float with just a couple rapids, but equally as beautiful.

DuPont Bike Retreat

DuPont Bike Retreat is located 1/4 mile from the Fawn Lake Access area into DuPont State Forest. The DBR is 37 acres and has a pond with a dock and numerous camping sites available. The property used to hold Glass Feather Studio, which was a glass art studio and is now Glass Feather Lodge. The mountain view from the indoor porch is amazing and there are several places to relax and enjoy this view. There is an outdoor shower and bike wash station behind the lodge and two indoor bathrooms (one with shower) off the porch. The lower Pond Area of the property has a port-a-john near the pond. Starter bundles of firewood are included, and additional can usually be purchased on-site. Come enjoy the forest straight from your campsite!

Sweet Bear Rescue Farm

Learn more about this land: We have a working animal sanctuary with nearly 50 animals: dogs, cats, pigs, goats, chickens and turkeys. The animals are on the back half of the property and the front half is open for camping. We have a firepit, picnic tables (2, first come first serve), a pool (See Extras & contact Lisa for pool reservations at a discounted rate), and a porta john. You'll have plenty of places to camp and you can set up anywhere you like! The land is mostly flat and cleared but surrounded by woods. We are right around the corner from the Carl Sandburg National Historic Site and very close to awesome waterfall hikes like Big Bradley and Little Bradley in Saluda, and DuPont State Forest in Brevard. We are located less than three miles from downtown Hendersonville where there are plenty of bars, breweries, restaurants and shops (it's an awesome town).

Smallmouth and freshwater sunfishing is incredible on this stretch of the river and there are also opportunities for mountain river catfish. Tellurian’s scenic location offers stunning vista views of the surrounding countryside, sprawling views of the South Mountain and Cherry Mountain ranges, as well as long range views of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The sunsets are amazing and the star lit skies are uninhibited by city lights. One of the few lights that can be seen at night lights up a steeple silhouetted against the mountain ridges. It’s truly a peaceful site. Tellurian is centrally located between Charlotte NC, Asheville NC, and Spartanburg SC in the small town of Casar, NC. After years of looking all over the mountains for a river property we could call our own, our favorite spot on the river came up for sale. It just so happened it was nearly halfway between where we both grew up. After many sleepless nights worrying if we could succeed or not (it was much larger than properties we had been looking for), we bought it! Our favorite spot on the river was virtually inaccessible by any way other than floating. But after hundreds of hours of hard work, we think we have developed a place where others too can enjoy the things we do about the property. We dream big and Tellurian remains a work in progress, but we feel we have created a place where folks can enjoy the peacefulness of nature, the river and incredible views. Naming our campground proved to be one of the most challenging tasks throughout the process of developing it. After many ideas and brainstorming sessions as a family, we decided to go with Tellurian. Riverside Camping on the Farm

Sleep under the stars while listening to the river run while staying on a working farm! During the summer months watch our vegetables grow and the pickers pick! The winter months you'll enjoy a sea of green as our cover crop takes over the field. You can cool off in the river, or check out the surrounding Pisgah National Forest. Dogs on leashes are welcome and owner is responsible for cleaning up after pet. The farm provides a portable toilet but no other amenities. Campfires may be restricted, so check local regulations. This is a working farm, so please be respectful of the crops and workers and keep dogs on leashes. Fishing is not allowed in the river. Please note, if it’s rainy, the roads will be muddy and 4-wheel-drive vehicles are the best option. Head 4 miles east to the town of Mills River for restaurants, stores, and services. You can find hiking, biking, and horseback-riding trails within a short bike or car ride in Pisgah National Forest. Chimney Rock State Park is 25 miles east and offers panoramic views of the surrounding mountain scenery. Or perhaps go for a drive on the Blue Ridge Parkway. Our guests love staying here: "This was our first time using Hipcamp and we couldn’t have been happier! Candace was great at communicating and quick to respond to our questions. Site 1 was perfect. We had so much room for just the two of us and the water access was great for our dogs to swim. Plus it was so quiet, we’ll probably never go back at state park camping!
