Catskills Wilderness Retreat

1 site · Lodging1 acre · Lanesville, NY
Mid-Century home that is part of a 9-home community offering a pool and tennis court. Great hiking is close by, along with ice climbing, and four ski mountains from 10 to 40 minutes away. This house features wood ceilings and beams, large windows for views, and an abundance of natural light. It boasts a nice open plan layout. There are three private bedrooms, two bathrooms, and the fourth "bedroom" is actually a sleeping loft with a ladder, open to the great room below. The base rate is for 4 guests. The house accommodates 8+ guests with an additional cost per guest (approximately $50/night/guest). It's a great place to get away. Use the house as your base for various hiking excursions, ice climbing, local event hopping, skiing, or simply relax and enjoy nature. There are four ski mountains all within a 40-minute drive. In the summer, enjoy the pool and tennis court, sit on the porch and read, or attend local festivals at Hunter or Woodstock. Other activities include Belleayre Beach, tubing down the Esopus Creek, fly fishing, or horseback riding. Hiking trails are at the end of the street and many more within a short drive (we provide local trail maps and books to help you find one). Diamond Notch Farms for horseback riding is within walking distance. Hunter, Windham, Belleayre, and Plattekill mountains are all nearby. There's also ice climbing available nearby, and festivals are held year-round at the ski mountains as well as in Woodstock. The towns of Phoenicia, Hunter, and Tannersville, with many good restaurants, are all very close.

Queen's Cabin

1 site · Lodging5 acres · Kerhonkson, NY
Dog Friendly and Fully Fenced!! This rustic 600 square-foot cabin with a semi-private bedroom and a fold-out couch can comfortably sleep up to 4 adults. The bathroom and kitchen both have modern amenities. There's a wood stove but also electric heat and AC and hot water. Huge sliding glass doors open up to a wrap-around porch. No TV, but Wifi. It sits on 5 wooded acres and nearly a full acre of cleared land is fenced, making it safe for dogs to run off leash. The house sits within the fenced in acre so you can conveniently open the doors and let your dogs run free. There is one visible house across the street from the front of the cabin but it feels very private in the back of the house. There is a firepit. There are two outbuildings onsite that are not available for rent at this time. The cabin is 20 mins from Minnewaska State Park and Mohonk Mountain House, and 35 mins from Kingston, New Paltz, Gardiner, Phonecia and Woodstock. Local restaurants of note include Mill and Main, Roughcut Brewing, Westwind Orchard, Arrowood Farms, and Harana. We live in the chalet next door where we offer small group fitness classes most days of the week. Ask us for more info if you're interested.

Sacred Waterfall & Quiet Camping

60 sites · Lodging25 acres · NY
NOTE: THIS IS A QUIET CAMPING AREA for reconnecting with nature. Not suitable for parties or loud groups. Kahonrakén:ra, The White Spout Waterfall, is a world unto itself. For generations, the majestic waterfall has been revered for its spectacular beauty and powerful energies. It is considered a sacred site that has been central to local land rematriation work with the Kanienkeha:ka, also known as the Mohawks, the original inhabitants of Skóhare, the Schoharie Valley. Surrounded by 25 acres of both private wooded land and wide-open fields of wildflowers and fireflies, the Waterfall Cabin and Campsite are easily accessible, just off a country back road. From the campsites, it's about a 10 minute hike down the gorge to the waterfall. We do not allow partying the campsites. There is a profound healing process happening at the waterfall. At the request of the Kaneinekehaka caretakers we ask that you to respect the sacredness of this land. Thank you! There are two campsites on the property, not far from each other in the forest. One campsite is in a grass circle clearing and the other has a rustic cabin and three small flat terraces for extra tents. They are both accessed by separate footpaths through the forest, below an old red barn, surrounded by ash and walnut trees, singing birds, deer, wildflowers, and wild medicines. The campsites are not within view of each other. Each campsite has a private path down to the waterfall, where you can spend the day swimming, exploring the clay beds and looking for fossils in the 280 million year old gorge. Make a campfire at your fire pit and fall asleep under the stars listening to a 150' waterfall and the river below. Coursing between two outcroppings in a deep ravine, Kahonrakén:ra Waterfall crashes down over mossy rock shelves into a hidden pool, which then empties again into the river, running into emerald swimming holes and through dramatic clay beds. The effect is transporting. Truly, it is one of those extraordinarily beautiful spots on earth that makes you feel like you are in another world. The waterfall is amazing but the hike is steep, so please wear appropriate footwear. All hiking is at your own risk. Although your path to the waterfall is private and the waterfall is on private property, there may be other guests or locals that access the waterfall further down the road. There is no glass or alcohol allowed at the falls. Please be aware that you may hear your camping neighbors in the woods. For this reason, we ask that you don’t play amplified music and to keep noise down after 10pm so that your camping and local neighbors can chillax and enjoy the evening sounds of frogs, crickets, owls, and night songs of the countryside that makes Schoharie so special. In the big red barn at the entrance to the campsites there is a community room with a charging station, cold water sink, mini fridge, coffee maker, grills, and a port-a-potty for your use. There are also 5 gallon solar shower bags that you can use at your campsite. You are responsible for filling them and putting them in the sun to heat the water. :) This is a leave no trace campsite. Please take all your trash with you when you leave. And please bring your own biodegradable soap for dishes and toilet paper for the port-a-potty! Firewood is available onsite for $1 per log. Instructions for payment are in the community room next to the red silo at the barn. The wood is stacked at next to the red shed just uphill from the barn. You can also buy your own fire wood en route. We recommend that you buy kindling. The Schoharie Valley is said to be the most fertile valley east of the Mississippi. It is still wild, unspoiled country and there are many local farms with fresh produce and organic meat within 5 miles of the house. There are several farm stands and a general store a few miles away, Scrumpy Ewe Cidery, Panther Creek Arts, and the Sap Bush Country Store and Café just up the hill in West Fulton. Mustang Valley, a wild mustang sanctuary and rescue center, is just down the road. Nearby hikes include Looking Glass Pond and Vroman's Nose, among many others.

Sexy Little Cabin in Saugerties, NY

1 site · Lodging1 acre · Saugerties, NY
WInter Camping adventure awaits! Staying at The Wasburn cabin in winter months has proven to be an absolutely magical experience for hundreds of our guests. However, it does require a little extra planning and an understanding of winter in the Hudson Valley. Between November and April, the weather can have its extremes and does not allow for running water as the pipes will freeze and crack. Unfortunately, even leaving bottled water often just ends up being blocks of ice and not useable for our guests. We simply ask guests to bring in water during their stay to ensure a safe useable water source. We also ask guests to bring proper clothes. The insulated cabin does reach comfortable temperatures, however, extreme cold snaps can make it necessary to bundle up and cuddle with your main squeeze. If you are open to a little adventure and a little planning, come and enjoy our little oasis! If you are looking for high end amenities with hot showers and instant heat on demand, this is probably not for you and we suggest trying our outdoor experiences in warmer months. This private romantic tiny Cabin set-up is situated in a little neighborhood surrounded by farmland. The one-of-a-kind Washburn Cabin is a huge step up from your typical camping experience. Set in a private little lot that makes you feel like you're in the woods yet you're just minutes from the best restaurants, shopping and quaint towns that the Hudson Valley has to offer. This air-conditioned/heated cabin is a sexy little getaway for two like no other! Boasting a memory foam mattress with lush bedding and comfy club chairs to ensure a completely relaxing getaway. The outdoor kitchen helps you to connect to nature as you brew your morning coffee! K-cup coffee maker, mini-fridge(In-season), cooler and propane grill are just some of the amenities you will enjoy during your stay. You can comfortably enjoy your morning coffee and farm fresh egg breakfast on the covered outdoor kitchen deck on the table for two. Or head over by the fire pit with comfy adirondack chairs. The outdoor shower is sure to waken your senses with refreshing lukewarm water and get you ready for a day of exploring in the Hudson Valley or simply staying put at the Cabin with your favorite book. You will have your own free off-street parking spot. There is a camera facing the parking spot. It is the only one on the property. On the way to the cabin, you will see the porta-potty that is cleaned out weekly and sanitized between each guest. It is stocked with plenty of toilet paper, hand sanitizer, body wipes and sanitizing wipes! Our guests always rave that our porta-potty's are the cleanest they've ever seen. This getaway is perfect for those who are not convinced about camping in a tent just yet but are willing to test the waters in an actual cabin with windows, shades and a door! Nature is calling you but you'd rather sleep with the comfort of solid surroundings and air conditioning or heating. We get it! THIS is for you! So book your stay today....you will not regret it! When the temperatures drop, usually in November, we must turn off the water hose in order to preserve the hose and keep it from freezing. We provide water in 5 Gallon jugs for cleaning dishes and for personal hygiene. Please note, sometimes it gets so cold that the water freezes! During those times, we suggest bringing in water that you will use on a daily basis. You must bring in your own drinking water! We will provide you with a supply of paper plates, cups and plastic utensils! Water is typically turned back on in April. While we are located in a neighborhood, cell phone service can be spotty. We personally have not had any issues. We hope that once you arrive at the cabin, you’ll settle in and realize that disconnecting will help you reconnect to yourself! We offer limited wifi. Meaning, the signal may not be super strong but can help in getting you online to search the internet but may not be strong enough to stream. Disconnect....nature is calling. ***Please note our Strict Cancellation Policy. We strongly recommend that you purchase trip insurance for your reservation!! There are many companies out there that will give you different options at affordable prices! Please do your research.***

The Awakening Garden

1 site · Lodging10 acres · Saugerties, NY
This piece of land was purchased and developed by my mother, and named after my grandmother: The Awakening Garden is a translation of her name in Chinese. It is tucked in between the Hudson River (8 miles to the East) and the Catskill Mountains (10 miles to the west). It is just 6 miles from the Village of Saugerties and 14 miles to Woodstock, NY. The piece available for camping is 10 acres, but the entire Garden is comprised of 98 acres of rolling land (most of it in a forestry protection plan) bordered on the west by acres of marshland. Many trails criss-cross the Garden and lead one to pretty or interesting vistas including a large mountain laurel patch, ancient graveyard, and different stands of mixed wood forests. There’s lots of wildlife both on land and in the marshes.

Cabins near Woodstock guide

Overview

Although the world-rocking festival that took the town's name actually happened about an hour away in Bethel, the mountain town of Woodstock, New York has its own bohemian, counter-cultural spirit. Creativity and tolerance still thrive in this leafy, free-spirited town, which visitors can get a taste of by exploring its art galleries, music venues, and shops. Plus, with the Catskill Mountains on its doorstep, Woodstock offers plenty of adventures. Those wishing to set up camp nearby will find lots of options.

Where to go

North of Town

The trailhead for Overlook Mountain begins around 10 minutes from Woodstock. The moderate loop takes about three hours and leads to several overlooks, including a fire tower with 360-degree views and a ruined 1930s hotel, which offer sweeping views of the Hudson Valley and Catskills.

South of Town

A 10-minute drive south of Woodstock, a gentle stroll along the Ashokan Reservoir’s two-mile-long, paved walkway offers stellar views of the Catskill Mountains and the chance to spot bald eagles and deer.

Sloan Gorge

Ten minutes northeast, Sloan Gorge Preserve offers an interpretive geology trail that leads past various Ice Age geologies, as well as creeks, quarries, and cliffs.

Haines Falls

A 30-minute drive north of Woodstock, Haines Falls is gateway to several sites of natural beauty, including the very popular, 231-foot Kaaterskill Falls, the state’s highest waterfall. The small hamlet itself is a pleasant place to visit for its handful of restaurants and antique stores, and just to the north, the Catskill Forest Preserve’s North-South Lake Campground offers access to hiking trails and swimming beaches.

When to go

With its promise of long, sunny days ideal for enjoying the trails, waterfalls, and great outdoors, summer is by far the most popular time of year to visit Woodstock and the surrounding area. However, the season can bring crowds and booked-up campsites, so try to make reservations far in advance. September and October can also get busy with visitors arriving to see fall foliage. Winters are relatively crowd-free and offer skiing and snowshoeing.
